[Sato looks very serious when he appears on the screen, and at first he's close enough to the camera that it's hard to tell exactly where he is. What is clear is that although he seems uninjured, there's a bit of fairly fresh looking blood on the collar of his shirt.]

Hello again, everyone. Sadly, I have sobering news to relay. You see, for several months now, I've been followed. Wanting to assume the best, I had hoped that whoever was simply too shy to approach. Or curious, perhaps.

Unfortunately, today the creature following me decided to make his move. I was viciously attacked in the streets of this very city. Of course... he was not successful.

[Sato changes the angle of the camera enough that the scenery is familiar to those who've been to Rage's temple to trade bodies for bullets. Except this time there's a small (and also familiar to some) figure dumped in an unceremonious heap of black and red spiky fur - and blood - on Rage's altar. Shadow is, quite certainly, dead.]

I would like to say simply that the Guard should spend more effort on trying to protect the citizens from dangerous creatures like the one I fought off today. I really would.

But I can't, because from the few words I heard, he was clearly sent by the Guard.

Is this fine with you, fellow citizens of this city? That you could be followed, attacked, perhaps even held hostage or killed, at the whims of a terrible organization like this? [He shakes his head sadly.] Please, tell me what you think of this. And be sure to tell them as well. For all of our sakes.

After. It seemed better than leaving him lying in the street. He'll be able to pay me back for the bullets I spent, too.

Look, I wasn't really a fan of that guy... But did he really attack you? I know he followed people like us and was a pain with all his questions, but I didn't think he was the type.

[Firo doesn't imagine that Sato would give him a trustworthy answer. But still, he wonders how he'll even respond.]

What reason would I have to lie about it?

That's odd, though. He didn't ask me any questions. What did he talk to you about?

People lie all the time.

[He does have to concede that it's not like Sato needs to lie to save face with the Guard--there's probably no face to save there.]

Nothing specific--he was always fishing for something. Guess he thought I was suspicious. Not surprised that he was following you too.

Perhaps he'll think things through next time.

It's too bad we have to wait so long for him to come back. I have a few questions of my own now.

You're really gonna go look for him after this?

[That doesn't seem too good for Shadow, having to see his murderer so soon... and who knows if Shadow would survive that encounter too?

Firo reminds himself that he's not supposed to care. But, well... old habits die hard. He just needs to try to find a way to attempt to talk Sato out of this without seeming too suspicious.]

He's not a chatty guy. There's probably no point to it, you know?

There shouldn't be a problem with sending him a message. We'll just have to see.

It just seems like a waste of time--that's all I mean.

...So how're you gonna deal with all your new "fans" now? People don't seem happy.

[Even Firo has to wonder if they're overreacting a little given that people and (hedgehogs) just come back to life in a few days.

That said, he doesn't really like the idea of Sato, say, deciding to hunt down everyone who's kicking up a fuss about this incident.]

It's surprising, isn't it? I wouldn't have thought people here were so opposed to self-defense.

[Well, and he'd wondered not only if by this point there would have been enough population turn-over to let his prior incident with the Guard slip by, but also if there's been any interesting newcomers who might have a positive response -- false on both accounts, it seemed.]

I don't think there's anything to be done. You can't help the way some people are.

Been there. I guess for some people it's more fun to feel self-righteous. They're acting like they think they're cops.

[He may not be fond of how this turned out, but how many options were there? All these people are acting like Edward did back home--Firo bets they'd still be whining even if Sato had only beaten him up. As Sato said, that's just how some people are.]

And you're not worried that they're gonna make trouble for you?

[He really, really hopes so, especially considering his chats with Maketh. Still, better to not really say as much right now.]

No idea. But probably--people can't keep their noses outta anything, you know? They've always gotta kick up a fuss.

...You were kinda asking for it, handling it all like this.

[Firo doesn't sound suspicious with that remark, though. Any attention, he assumes, is an unintended consequence of Sato being sort of weird. Nobody would actually want the event to shake out this way, right?]

Well now, we'll just have to see how it all falls out.

[Sato replies, as unruffled as always.]

You mean you'll have to see.

[Maybe he shouldn't harp on wording like that, but his kneejerk reaction is to assert that he has no part in these things. Despite what history would say.]

I guess I'll just tell you while we're already talking that I talked to Rey about your question. She had no idea what I was talking about--I think she thinks you two are fine. At least, she doesn't have a beef.
