Consider the following exercise in critical thinking, if you can tear yourselves away from gossiping about each others' love lives long enough to put some actual thought into formulating an answer:

If you had never before encountered a being like yourself before - a human, for example, or however you classify yourself - what would you most want to know about these beings? What are the most important concepts that are fundamental to your existence?

To me personally? Harmony. Cooperation for survival, if we're in a place like this, or stranded on an island or something. Not putting each other down. I think we should work together to make things better for us both.

That seems awfully optimistic. Do you think most people would share your outlook?

Oh no, definitely not. But that doesn't stop me feeling the way I do.

So why choose this particular outlook, then?

Cos it's the one I like to act on. Makes me feel like I should keep going. For some people, pessimism works. For me, it's optimism.

I take it you're not an optimist?

[Nope. He's seen entirely too much shittiness to be an optimist.]

I consider myself more of a realist and a pragmatist.

Figured as much. You've got a real level head when it comes to talking about this. A place needs all types.
