I have now seen the arrival of new captives for myself. It has only been weeks since I was brought here, but this helps to confirm that things really are as you all say.

No. I am aware that I am no more deserving of that than anyone else. I have no connections within the city and have contributed nothing to our cause. I would not ask that those protecting the people at large leave their duties to attend to mine. I only meant that, should there be a more... independent swordsmen, or something closer to a sellsword, then I would be grateful for their aid.

You may have some luck on that account, if you find something worth trading for their services. Regardless, I would suggest remaining within the city limits. We maintain a perimeter there.

I have no intention of leaving the city. I've seen the monsters firsthand.

[ There's no judgment in Pell's tone when he responds, just curiosity. Is there something special about this woman, maybe, that would attract monsters? In his experience they stay in their designated areas outside of the big events, where there's always warning and safe havens. The only monster he really fears in the city right now is Beyond. ]

Is there a reason you'd need constant personal guarding..? The guard patrol the city in shifts, and will come when called for help. There are a lot of us who don't really fight.

No, not if the monsters are not a constant threat. Only when they appear within the city proper, I think. I would - will - have no way to protect myself, should that happen.

Not constant. Only if the Colosseum's creatures are to wander into the city itself. I can believe well enough that the guard will do everything they can to keep that from happening.

[ But. She still worries, and isn't looking to get hurt, or worse. ]

I suppose it would be. I've been to many worlds and have yet to see anything quite like this place.

It does happen, in which case we've always established places that are well guarded for the non-fighters to stay. If you want to guarantee your own security, though, I hope you can find someone. I think most people who'd volunteer wouldn't ask for compensation, honestly.

Where I am from, we have long since mastered space travel and often go between planets to conduct our affairs. I was raised on a place called Lothal, but underwent my training on another, Mandalore. I have spent time in many worlds as it was required of me.

It's usually one or more of the temples. In cases of emergency someone will make an announcement on where to go.

Hmm... what skills do you have? Surely there's something useful you could be doing.

It's okay not to know how to fight and it's okay to ask for help if you're afraid of the creatures that sometimes lurk around the city. The guard is protecting the city, I trust them enough, but if you ever need company -or maybe some basic self defense lessons- please feel free to call me anytime.

Well, the Guard has technically been tasked with helping and protecting the people who need it. There appears to be a pattern to when shit happens here, but it's impossible to tell whether it's going to be benign happy bubbles or rotted corpses trying to kill everyone and their fish.

Arguably the safest places are the temples, but they're run by the gods and you'd have to deal with them fucking with your emotions, and not everyone is into that.

I offer lessons in swordsmanship in the late mornings, should you change your mind about learning to fight. We do have a great deal of time on our hands in this place, after all.
