[ Curufin is standing in the bay of the pumping station on the north bank of the reservoir. The firefighters finished building and testing the the second of two tanker trucks the day before, and it is ready to be filled with its 11,000 gallons of water. You can hear the noise of the machinery in the background. The first tanker is already filled and ready to go. Outside, the firehouse and the ladder truck beside it are visible. ]

Firefighters and supporting crew, report in! We'll allocate our resources as soon as we know who's available and where we are needed.

And as we're a bit shorthanded, anybody who wants to join us, you are welcome to do so. Post in, and we'll find you a job.

[OK, one, what the fuck; two, when did Hadriel get organized enough for a team of firefighters; and three, what the fuck this place is on fire!! If this is Fear's work, it's - well, let's be real, it's about as shitty as Nick expects from him. But that doesn't change the fact that people here are in real danger, and Nick is in a position to be of potential assistance. It's one of her newer powers, and she's only tested it for short spurts of time, but if it works the way she thinks it should ... ]

Thank you very much! Do you have any particular skills?

[ Seeing a face that is young but businesslike and determined, Curufin makes haste to find her something significant to do. ]

Can you get to the city center and start warning people in the northernmost houses and shops that they may need to evacuate? We haven't any reports of fire there, but Spire One is definitely in flames, and that's too bloody close.

If they want to leave and have no friends to go to, tell them to go to Love's temple on the other side of the river. If they don't want to walk that far, then Confusion's temple.

Once you're finished, could you pick a place to sit and keep a watch on Spire Four? It's close enough to Spire One that I'm a bit concerned. You call back if you spot even a whiff of smoke from Spire Four.

Ah, Findekáno! How about if we pick you up on the way to Spire One? I think we should focus our attention it first -- seeing as how it's already in flames!

By the way, are you at home, or elsewhere? When I last checked, our house was not on fire -- but I'm not counting on that to continue.

Well, I suppose we will have to find out exactly how much a bard can do against a fire, I suppose.

[Oscar appears from behind one of the trucks, having made the preparations necessary to mobilize. On his way to the driver's door, he notices Curufin.]

I will proceed with this vehicle to Spire One.

We should designate a safe assembly area for evacuees on the south side of the river.

I'm already taking care of some of this stupid shit. [ The crackle of the fire is distinct, giving off the last of distance between her and it. She's not panicked, yet, but give her some time and eventually a pyrokinetic will flip on her very own abilities. ] I've found some of the worst of it up North and it's spreading fast.

[ And off they go to Spire One! I've replied there. ]

And I think we should be telling people to cross the river and go to Tranquility's temple, or Love's. Rage's temple would be safe, too, but it's not a very nice atmosphere for someone whose nerves are already on edge. If they really don't want to walk that far, or if they're determined to stay on this side of the river, then Confusion's or Sorrow's temples.

Spire One!

And I think we'd better keep an eye on Spire Four, whatever else we're busy with. No reports of fire there so far, but it's just too close to Spire One. The wind's picking up, and I know from experience that sparks can carry for miles.

Yes. Spire One is blazing. And so are some of those fields up there, with the tall, dry grass -- between the roads and the buildings, a perfect route for fire to travel by. I'm going to trust you to pick your own targets. You know your gig better than anyone. [ And if she flips, she can always call him back. He has a gift for calm in the midst of chaos and will share it. ]

Sansa! Are you at home? If you are going to stay there, keep a sharp watch on the neighborhood. Spire One is on fire, and though that is not near you, I fear the fields and lawns between the spire and Delight's Housing are dry in this summer weather. We've put out some grass fires already, near the Library.

Thank you, we will need some more protective suits. Just make them of a size to fit a tall man, and if we have any more volunteers to do search and rescue, they'll likely be able to wear these. [ Heh. Even if they have to roll their pant-legs up. ] Do you have materials left over, to work with? If not, I can stop by the shops I got them from originally and bring them to you. Or I'll have somebody deliver them.

But Sansa? -- don't stay in your house if you catch even a hint of approaching fire, or hear anything on the net. Your life is more important than anything.
