[Ty has a scowl on his face when he makes this video, rocking back and forth again in that self-soothing manner as he pointedly does not look at the screen. He's hugging his arm to his chest tightly, knuckles white, and his free hand is held uselessly in the air, at least a dozen small bleeding cuts all over it as he makes squeezing motions with his fingers. He cringes as he does it, looking tense and distressed, but he doesn't stop the movement.]

The library here is pointless. You can't read any of the books. I wanted to find the Sherlock Holmes stories, but it doesn't have them. It doesn't even have a cookbook. I need a cookbook. I don't know how to cook, and I don't want to eat toast anymore, and the stove didn't make the macaroni right. The microwave only makes things explode.

I went looking for animals, and there aren't any I can find in the city. All the animals in the tunnels are big and mean. There aren't any nice animals. All the tunnels lead you right back here. Whoever made the tunnels like that, it isn't funny or nice.

[Ty takes in a deep, trembling breath and lets it out once he's gotten that little tirade over with, then goes back to why he's making this video in the first place.] I need a cookbook. And instructions for the stove.

And there are no boxed versions at the store? They're both easy enough dishes to make, but getting your hands on the ingredients may be tricky.

You'll need flour and leavening and dairy, and we're often in short supply. If there's none in the stores, though... I believe someone was starting a bakery in town? The baker may have wheat flour, or have a deal with the gods to have some provided.

[But it won't taste the same as Julian makes them if it's a boxed version, he wants to say, but he doesn't know how Julian makes pancakes in the first place - or anything else, for that matter - so it's a pointless thing to say.]

I'll look for boxed versions. [He doesn't sound happy about it, but at least it'd be something besides toast. Dumping pasta in water and putting cheese on top of it didn't work very well so hopefully a box would have instructions on it.]

By getting my hands on the ingredients, you mean finding them, right? [He thinks that's what he means instead of making it seem like the ingredients would be hard to hold for some reason, but it's probably a good idea just to clarify to make sure.]

But it won't compare to the real thing? [The boy's dissatisfaction is obvious- and frankly, Fingon doesn't blame him. Food has so much meaning that these substitutes can't provide.]

[He nods.] That's correct. Most ingredients can be hard to find in Hadriel. The orchard supplies fresh fruits and vegetables, but most of our food comes from what's available in the shops.

Most pancakes are made from flour, milk, eggs, and something to make it rise. You can do without some of those, if you have substitutes- oat flour might work instead of wheat, for example. But first you should find out what you have to work with.

Would you like some help looking around the stores?

[His expression picks up a bit at the mention of fruits and vegetables. He can gather that up, at least. You don't need to cook fruits or vegetables.

He gives a nod of agreement in response to that last question.] Yes. I need instructions for the stove too.

[Now that he's gotten a chance to see who this other person is, he notices something that makes him ask in curiosity:] Are you a faerie? You have pointed ears.

[He makes a frustrated noise.] I don't know how to make food. I've never cooked before. Julian always did it.

... Does he actually look like a parrot? [Ty is trying to picture that, a human with a parrot's face. He might have laughed at the mental image if he wasn't so stressed right now.]

I like animals. They're my friends.

[He pauses, then makes an amendment to that.]

But I don't like the ones that attack me when I haven't done anything wrong, like the ones in the tunnels.

Are you a faerie too?

Today. Toast is real food. [He doesn't say it stubbornly or defiantly, just... matter-of-fact because he takes the question - and everything else - literally. Hence why he also reacts in confusion about that first part.] I'm not wearing a tether. I don't have all my gear here.

Faerie? [ He blinks at him curiously ]

No - we are Eldar, or Quendi, if you want to get specific. Elves, Men have always called us.

I've never heard of those first two things. But elves are faeries. [He frowns a little, looking unsure.] You're not supposed to eat or drink things when you're in Faerie or else you won't be able to leave. [Maybe this is a part of Faerie? He still isn't entirely sure.]

... Elves are also eight inches tall. They have sharp teeth too. They bite. [It might seem like he's rambling a bit, but stating facts is one of the things that sometimes helps to soothe him when he's stressed and upset.]

You don't look eight inches tall. Do you have sharp teeth?

[ Maglor laughs, bright and joyful, flashing him a warm smile ]

I should think not! I am, by your measurements, perhaps around six feet five, and considered of average height for one of my people. My teeth are perfectly normal, and there is no rule that states that hospitality should merit indentureship. I don't think my folk are the elves you know in your world, youngling.

But both those words are ones we use for ourselves - no one ever called us Faeries.

[Ty relaxes ever so slightly at that.] Good. I don't want to get stuck in Faerie. I want to go home.

[There are a few other things he's curious about.] So you're... from another dimension? Not this one?

I think most of us do. [ Maglor's smile gentles ]

But that would be correct - like most here excepting our hosts and their foes, we are all brought here.

[That gets another little frown out of Ty.] They never said that in the guide that came on the phone. They should say that. That was why I couldn't call Julian, because I'm in a different dimension.

[That said, have some more questions.] Can you lie? Faeries in in the world I'm from can't lie.

I suppose it is something that folk consider to be rather obvious - none of us know this place, after all. I confess, I never read the guide!

[ He got jumped by happy family too quickly ]

Hah! That would be awkward. I do not like to lie - my word I have always considered my bond. But there is nothing stopping me doing so save honor alone.
