[Ty has a scowl on his face when he makes this video, rocking back and forth again in that self-soothing manner as he pointedly does not look at the screen. He's hugging his arm to his chest tightly, knuckles white, and his free hand is held uselessly in the air, at least a dozen small bleeding cuts all over it as he makes squeezing motions with his fingers. He cringes as he does it, looking tense and distressed, but he doesn't stop the movement.]

The library here is pointless. You can't read any of the books. I wanted to find the Sherlock Holmes stories, but it doesn't have them. It doesn't even have a cookbook. I need a cookbook. I don't know how to cook, and I don't want to eat toast anymore, and the stove didn't make the macaroni right. The microwave only makes things explode.

I went looking for animals, and there aren't any I can find in the city. All the animals in the tunnels are big and mean. There aren't any nice animals. All the tunnels lead you right back here. Whoever made the tunnels like that, it isn't funny or nice.

[Ty takes in a deep, trembling breath and lets it out once he's gotten that little tirade over with, then goes back to why he's making this video in the first place.] I need a cookbook. And instructions for the stove.

Sometimes animals just attack 'cause they get scared.

[She switches the feed to video after a second. She's got the screen focused not on her, but on a black cat that's sprawled out on the ground asleep. When she starts talking again, Girl sounds fond.]

They do make pretty good additions to a crew.

I know. But I didn't do anything to scare some of these ones. [He sounds pretty sure of it. He knows how to act around animals, he's befriended snakes and skunks and wild weasels before without getting attacked, but some of the things he came across in the tunnels are much more aggressive.]

[His expression and voice light up at the sight of the cat.] Where did you find it?

If the animal ain't used to people, just existin' is sometimes enough to scare it. [At least that's what she told herself about the birds back home.]

He found me. [She keeps the feed on the cat, but her hand appears in the frame to stroke his back.] He's from home. Came in same time I did.

Oh. [He looks a tiny bit disappointed he can't just go out and get one here himself.] Can I come see it?

[She hesitates and starts to nod after a few seconds before realizing she's not on screen.]

I don't think he'd mind it. You can find your way to the lake, yeah?

[He looks positively delighted now.] Yes, I can find it.

Jazzy. I'll be waitin' there.

[Ty definitely wants to see the cat as soon as possible, so he immediately makes his way to the lake, looking up and down for someone approaching with a cat, bouncing on his feet with his hands fluttering at his sides in excitement.]

[Girl comes up slowly, idly walking several feet parallel to the shoreline. A small black cat is following her, twisting between her legs. Girl lifts a hand for Ty when she sees him, nodding down at the cat.]

He here is. [She nudges the cat forward with the foot, the creature stubbornly deciding to sit down.] Might need to coax out his attention.

[Ty gives one of his rare bright smiles, sitting down so he's more at the cat's level and holding a hand out invitingly for it to sniff.] What's its name?

[The cat stretches forward to smell of his hand, backing up for a second before stepping forward to sniff again. He meows after a few seconds, butting his head against Ty's hand.]

He don't got one. He can't tell me his opinion on any, so I wasn't 'bout to saddle 'im with one he might not like.

[Ty waits patiently until the cat butts its head against him, and then he gently pets it, looking happy the whole time.] Thank you for letting me see him.

[The cat closes his eyes and purrs, clearly enjoying himself.]

You don't gotta thank me. He gets greedy for attention and I'm just one person. Kinda nice to meet other people that appreciate 'im. Most people think he's annoyin'.

People who think animals are annoying are annoying. If he ever wants attention, I can come.

I think some of them just don't know anything 'bout havin' something not human 'round. Not many of these furry guys, where I'm from.

Looks like a small place here, so I'm sure he'll see you 'round. He kinda looks for the people who are nice to 'im.

There's lots of animals all around where I'm from. You just have to go find them. [He frowns a little bit as he thinks about it.] I don't like not having animals here. There should at least be insects in a cave, if we can survive in it.

The only animals to find back home are lizards. And bugs. And birds, I guess. [She scratches her chin and shrugs.] It's pretty weird that there's not even any lil' lizards 'round. I'm guessin' maybe a few could live in the caves, those shits love rocks and all. But I ain't gonna die tryin' to find out.

I would like it if there were some lizards here but I've never found any. [And he's definitely searched for animals while he's been exploring.] Or bugs or birds. I like things with wings.

Really? I always found the birds kinda creepy with how they like to peck at dead things. Better eaten then paid attention to. But lizards? Yeah. I used to like chasin' those things around when I was younger. And this guy misses the bugs.

[She leans down to pet the cat.] He likes to play prey with 'em.

Not all birds do that. Just the kind that are scavengers.

What do you do when you play with him? Do you have any toys?

Well, then all we got back home is the scavengers.

Toys? [She snorts.] I'm not made of money. Dangle so string if I got it, let 'im play with my backpack straps. There's not much to play with out in the sand.
