Can someone tell me more about these Null? I gather they are a threat, and that they seem ready to attack, but what are they? Do they have a reason for attacking? I'm used to fighting...if we have to defend ourselves, I'll do what has to be done.

The Null are artificial beings who bear a grudge against the gods. As I understand it, the two races once had close contact with each other. But the gods’ brethren brought out emotions in the Null, and that they could not abide.

So the Null killed the rest of the gods’ race, and the remainder have been in flight ever since.

It seems as much, yes.

Your enemies may have been different than the Null, but I think you still may have an edge on the rest of us. Anything you can do to help would be accepted gladly.

[ All right, he's got that one. Or, somebody else did, anyway. ]

Hang on, I asked somebody that question a while back, here's what I got:

The Null are machines who aim to annihilate the gods merely because they 'threaten their way of life' by making the Null feel. These eight gods are the last of their kind, and they are hunted.

At some point in the past they attempted to fight the Null. The creatures who once sustained the gods were killed in their entirety. Rage, Delight, Sorrow, Tranquility, Confusion and Love died in that battle. Hope and Fear survived by escaping. Fear then made active the Door, which brought us into this city. Hope proceeded to use us to gain power enough to revive their fallen kin.

We were kept ignorant.

About five months ago the Null almost breached this city, which forced the gods to speak honestly of our perilous circumstances. We narrowly escaped before they broke through. Two months ago the Null posted to the network. The gods knew not. The Null wish to communicate with us alone. They posted a second time in an attempt to entice us into assisting them by killing Hope.

It is only a matter of time until the Null attack again. The Null have no qualms slaughtering us in order to weaken the gods. They said so themselves.

The gods themselves might know. But they’ve only communicated with us by text.

Is that even the best idea? Sounds like their main targets would be these gods. We might be better off staying out of their way.

Right, a lot of us probably will, but why? Because it sounds like the only thing we 'have to' do to stay alive is not mess with their god killing.

Pretty much the same? Didn't think machines coming to attack your world to get rid of a bunch of emotion gods was a scenario for all worlds, but I guess the more you know...

Fighting for your own survival is different. That's something you go all in for. But this? This isn't our battle, or even our world.
