[There's a lot of crap going on right now, sure, and whatever the more overtly-powered people have done to subdue the recent catastrophe has helped, but that doesn't mean he can continue to put certain things on his to-do list on the perpetual backburner.

This might be a weird question, but does anyone here know how to craft...small items? Like a smith, or a carpenter, or some combination thereof?

He was born with some kind of bone or connective tissue deficiency and left crippled, so...kinda wanted to make it a little easier on him, to get around. Right now he's got all these straps that I think are period-made, to stabilize him.

[Nate isn't so tactless as to point the patch out - the entire impetus behind his initial question has to do with a handicap, after all.]

Uh. [Wow, he didn't expect to get a volunteer that fast.] A wheelchair? Sorry, that's not a question. A wheelchair.

[A smile quirks across his face at that - like it reminds him of something.] Yeah? Not a big ask.

[He'd expected something more complicated. A wheelchair? A wheelchair, he can help with. He thinks for a moment, scratching lightly around the bottom of the patch with his thumb.]

Can lend a hand with that. Always got ten fingers for a good cause.

[She's not sure what she was expecting. Not that, apparently, and she raises an eyebrow, surprised and kind of impressed.]

I guess you wouldn't be you if you started out with something simple.

Considering what can pop up around here, I'd want to be as mobile as possible, too. What period are these straps from?

I'm afraid I don't, personally, but could you clarify what you're looking for? That might help us find the right person.

[Ivar has creeped on the other conversations because he's a creep it's What He Does, and when he fumbles around long enough to get the video going it's pointed slightly askew. Not the worst for a first try? But not... great.

Still, sounding VERY SUSPICIOUS:]

What is a wheelchair? What are you doing?

[Not for nothing, but Hadriel only occupies its residents for so long and Nate needs multiple activities to keep him in a moderate state of functionality. If he doesn't have at least three ongoing projects his wheels might start spinning.

He quirks a knowing smile at her observation.]

Early to mid-9th century? Pre-Columbian old. They might attach to some kind of metal rod, but I wasn't looking really hard.

[He's pretty sure if he'd tried to examine anything in more in-depth interest, Ivar might have made good on his threat of gutting him.]

[Nate won't pass up the offer of help from this gentle giant, and immediately launches into his intentions.]

Great, I've- I drew up some plans...sort of, I mean- I was trying to think of something that wouldn't look too modern? The guy it's for is from over a thousand years ago.

[To be honest, Nate didn't actually count on Ivar seeing this, but he supposes he may have garnered some concern with the person he admitted to knowing. It's not all that unlikely that Ivar would be wary of a guy who a.) claimed to be fairly well-versed in his personal history and b.) probably came across as an excitable nerd.

Nate doesn't know what the Old Norse word for "nerd" would be. They'd probably just put people like him out in the woods somewhere and assume they're conversing with gods.]

It's a piece of equipment that can help you get around easier. Like a... [Crap, what's a decent 9th century equivalent?] ...wheelbarrow, but more comfortable and one you can move yourself, so no one has to push you.

[In a word, independence.]

Just something to help somebody get around a little easier, is all. I think I might have found the right person to build it.

I'm trying to see if there's anyone who can build a wheelchair, but the design is...

[Nate glances down at his sketchbook out of frame.]

...specific. Might've found somebody, but we're still going over details. I'm more of an "accidentally break things" person than a "build things" person.

I think most of the people here are, so at least you're in good company.
