[ It's pretty unusual for Sharon to bother much with the network. Sure, she paid it some mind but it was usually just all bullshit; from complaints to claims of grandiosity or, worse yet, something new from their gods; it was the shitty social media of Hadriel and she wasn't the biggest fan. But things have begun to wear her down, leave her feeling heavy and empty and so unsure.. ] Does anyone have any tips on dealing with stress?

[ There's only a mild slur to her speech that indicates she's been drinking some but the clear howl of cold wind indicates that she's not doing this in the Speakeasy, she's out on her own, dealing with it in her own way. But she's reaching out this time. In her own way. ] I, uh, hate to admit it but I kind of feel like I'm at the edge of my, I don't know, fucking mental rope.

[ A combination of stressors has just left her jumpy and she's tired all the time. She laughs rather suddenly, bitterly. ] This is fucking stupid.

[ At least when you take what they're constantly put through.

[George recognizes the voice of course and wants to help. if she can. she's not exactly the helpful sort, or at least she wasn't. blame this place for bringing out a long buried nice side. and nah to the effects]

I read. I have three books and I've read them all a million times, but it still helps. Do you wanna borrow a book?

[Tinya has been going stir crazy in this new environment. she's from a technological wonderland, going from there to here--especially now--has been a shock. thanks to Harlan, she now has access to hot food and water, but it's still difficult to cope with. and nah to the effects]

I like to do something physical. Training with my sword, practicing martial arts, flying. [a pause] I guess flying wouldn't be an option, but taking a walk could be?

( Steak has never much been one for worrying, not beyond the necessary. Worry when there's a Fallen Angel attacking innocents, or when Red Wine runs off into the lion's den to do something stupid and heroic.

Until then... Stress gets in the way of practicing and becoming a better warrior, and its only positive function is that it can sometimes function as a good motivator in a fight. )

Do something physical. Are there punching bags here?

I... Yeah, yeah, I'd be down to borrow a book. It'd be nice to lose myself into something else right now. [ There really is just so much stress and denied heartache a young woman can take. ]

Do I have options?

I've been doing some physical things, not really the type to go play martial arts or sword training, but even the physical doesn't get rid of this or ease it. It's like, uh, I can't stop thinking.

You do! I have "A Tale of Two Cities," a first edition of "Jane Eyre"--how the stores coughed that up, I'll never know--and "The Woman in White." The last one's a pretty good detective story.

I think someone around here has made a punching bag or two but... my better bet would be long runs; I'm not a boxer and I'd probably just end up getting hurt.

[ You know, a run sounds like a good idea. Running away from her problems, that is. ]

[ That is not the greatest group of books, none that Sharon would pick out herself, but... ]

"The Woman in White"? I like a good detective story. [ Anything to get her out of this. ] I'd kill to find something by Lewis Carroll. Hope gave us books a little while after we got here and I got all of Carroll's works; I could, and can still, recite the poem for the Jabberwocky.

[ Books get well worn and memorized when that's all you've got. And... it maybe not be on the shelf of Sharon's childhood bedroom. ]

I wouldn't turn down some company. [ And maybe not even someone just to talk to. She's drunk enough to ramble, that's for sure. ]

[unfortunately, it's all she's got. back home, she had a ton of books, but "A Tale of Two Cities" was the only one in her courier bag when she came here]

So do I. [she'll do what she can. and at the mention of Lewis Carroll, she groans]now? And you can? Let's hear it.

[she knows something about that. her father was a professor of Shakespeare. back home, there's a well-worn copy of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare" she's had since she was five]

[and a while later, there's a figure in white and black in the sky, then she descends from the sky. she's still in her Legion uniform, despite the chill]

Hi, Sharon.

You better not be a Carroll hater. [ Both Sharon and Alessa had a deep preference for books with female heroes whose lives were twisted upside down. ]

And the mome raths outgrabe. [ Sharon quotes it without so much as a mishap, pauses all in the right spots, poem looming together. Oh, she knows this poem so well. It was her favorite; it's always been. ]

[ Sharon is up against the temple wall, right outside the cracked door. There's a mostly empty bottle in her hand but she hasn't had that much to drink. With cheeks and nose a rosy pink and hair stuffed beneath a bright pink beanie, hair peeking out in random places, she looks very much a winter mess. But who looks good bundled up? ]

Aren't you fucking cold? [ Hi, Tinya. She looks like a superhero to Sharon, one of those comic book ones people back home liked to chatter on about. ]

Hell no I'm not. [George always loved old British writers the best. the more challenging the text, the better.

and George applauds when Sharon gets to the end of the text. she knows it well]

Great job! Wish I could recite something myself to pay you back. I used to know a bunch of sonnets, but it's been too long.

[she notices the bottle, but won't mention it. she's not one to judge the coping mechanisms of others. and she does look a little like she just threw on whatever would be warm, but it's not like the stores have been restocked with anything actually useful for winter with the aliens gone]

Not really. It's a special fabric, it adapts to its surroundings. [that's because she was a superhero back home. she misses it. but she has a seat on a nearby raised portion of the temple and gives Sharon an expectant look]

Sonnets? You into Shakespeare or something? [ She feels a pinch of pride at George's statement. Shit kind of sucks, the world is falling apart, but they've got one another.

Most of the time. ]

Yeah. My, uh, my dad. He taught Shakespeare at UDub. So I started early. [on Sunday mornings at the diner. he'd recite sonnets to George and they'd play the straw-worm game. George thought it was a bond which would never be broken, until it was.

but at least she has Sharon]

[ Sadly, no bond is unbreakable; parental or otherwise. But Sharon cherishes the ones she does have, especially George. ]

Really? [ A fact she stores away. Their relationship in her childhood must have been a sight. ] I'm big on Shakespeare myself; Hamlet is my fave.

[ And Romeo and Juliet is just sentimental slop ]

[she would be glad to hear that. it's not even a matter of having the world's biggest awkward-turtle crush on her, but she can't think of a friend she's clicked with better]

Yeah. [it was great between George and her dad. and then it wasn't. and it never was great again] Hamlet's pretty great, but I've gotta say that I like MacBeth an eensy bit better. I liked the witches.

[she liked Mercutio. after he died, she lost interest]

The witches were pretty cool. [ Sharon's always enjoyed powerful women in media. ] Most of his works are up there in my 'would totally reread again' list, except Romeo and Juliet.

Fuck that one.

[so did George. you couldn't pay her to watch Disney princess movies. except "Sleeping Beauty." the fairies were cool and she loved Maleficent. the other stuff, though? boring] Yeah, other than Mercutio, that one was pretty lame. If I wanna read a Shakespeare romance, I'll go with "Much Ado About Nothing."

[ Disney films were never her thing either, preference leaning towards the Grimm versions of the tales; she always liked things a little darker than most. ]

You know, I've never been a fan of most anything romantic but I guess that's a good choice. [ a curious pause ] You don't like those romance novels, right? You know the ones with that one muscle man on the cover with the long hair?

[ She knows she isn't. ]

[that's what George preferred, too. the stepsisters in Cinderella chopping off their heels and toes to try and fit into the slipper was far more interesting to little George]

Yeah. I like the banter. That's way more interesting than the whole love at first sight shit in "Romeo and Juliet." [and she busts out laughing] Are you kidding? You couldn't pay me to read one of those things.

[Jo's pretty sure she gets the feeling.]

...Yeah. It's kind of stupid. We have to take care of ourselves. [Not that Jo does that. Do as she says, not as she does.]

Exercise helps. Training too.
