-Is this working? I hope it is. [The words are have muttered, since Sabriel's speaking to herself. Then she takes a deep breath, and speaks, her words much clearer as she's now speaking into the microphone. Her tone is also a lot more formal.]

Greetings. My name is Sabriel, and I'm a recent arrival here- I'd like to do my best to help, so if anyone has need of me, I will do my best to help. I have some skill in Charter magic and swordplay and I- [Sabriel almost says 'I'm a necromancer' but thinks better of it- best to avoid misunderstandings.] I have training in dealing with the restless Dead.

Also, I understand that a creature from my world is here. His name is Mogget, and I would like to find him as soon as possible. [And Sabriel's tone abruptly changes. The formality fades, and her voice becomes more urgent.]

And for everyone's sake, don't try to remove his collar!

The fuck is "charter magic"?

[She's heard a lot of types of hocus pocus shit during her time in Hadriel, but that one's different.]

What does he look like? A description would help a lot with identification.

The primary form of magic in the Old Kingdom. It's worked through Charter marks.

He's a white cat- or he's shaped like one at least, with a red leather collar.

Uhm... what happens if his collar gets removed? Hypothetically speaking?

A binding will be undone, and his true power and nature will be unleashed. But that's not going to happen.

[ oh boy ANGUS REALLY HOPES SABRIEL DOESN'T PICK UP ON THE GUILT IN HIS VOICE... he switches to private, just in case... and partly because he doesn't want Mogget to pick up on this and side-eye the hell out of him the next time they run into each other. Can he use a phone with his tiny paws??]

That sounds... not... great? And possibly explosive? But it's not going to happen! You're right. He has sort of, um, been asking around a bit, though.

When you say "restless Dead"
Do you mean like, zombies and stuff?
Or vampires?
Or, like, ghosts?
I guess I'm just asking what kind of dead these Dead are.

[Jon sounds older than he is, maybe, and his voice is low and heavily accented.]

[It isn't, but he doesn't see a need to announce what he's learned to the entire city when he isn't sure what it will mean in the future. And anyway, "Jon Snow" is easier for most to wrap their tongues around than "Aegon Targaryen" would be.]

[Probably exactly what it sounds like, but there might be particulars. In any case, she has his attention.]

I'm not sure what zombies and vampires are, but the Dead I'm speaking of come in various forms, some physical, some not.

Things that have died, and then returned. They take various forms- some inhabit corpses. Others are spirits. All of them seek to devour the living.

Because the last time I removed it, he tried to kill me. And he made it clear it would be as slow and painful as he could make it. It's entirely possible he'll repay the next person who does so in the same way.

Also this city seems to have suffered enough destruction without a Free magic monster rampaging through it. [And somehow, Sabriel manages to pronounce the capital F.]

I'm not sure if he actually needs to eat, but I appreciate it.

Why would he try to kill you for freeing him?

[There's got to be something here he's missing and he's definitely curious about how this all works now.]

I don't know. When I first met him he was... helpful, if also rather insulting. And he kept telling me that Abhorse- that father was Dead, and I'm Abhorsen now. But I'm not. And my father isn't dead. [There's a determination in her words that verges on denial.]

It could simply be the nature of Free magic entities- they despise being restrained in any form, and he might see being indebted as a kind of restraint. But that's just a guess- the binding on him is ancient, and he may be older still.

Well, now. This isn't very sporting.

i havent seen him in a while, but ill keep a lookout.

I'm sure he does. But don't go hungry on his behalf.

i wont. he was helping me with some soup i got accidentally. im a vegetarian and i grabbed some beef and barley by mistake.
