[One day in, after conversations with the guard and various others, Simon finally makes his broadcast. The man on screen is well-dressed, despite his collar being unbuttoned and sleeves rolled up to his elbows; his hair is carefully combed back, even if it looks like he did the job with his fingers. He clears his throat, and when he speaks it sounds like he's careful to modulate his voice, that of a doctor giving bad news to a patient. Diagnosis: grim.]

Ah, hello. I'm Dr. Simon Tam, one of the medical professionals at the clinic. In my previous residence, I was a trauma surgeon. I have years of medical training and am here to help in whatever ways I can with the usual injuries one acquires through violence or accident.

As I'm sure you're all aware, Fear--I'm presuming--has brought in a new kind of creature, one that appears to previously have been human. I'm reluctant to use the word 'zombie,' but that will have to do, I suppose. I want you all to know we are working on studying these zombies and trying to find what created them, whether it's a virus or something less mundane. Anyone who has had experience with beings like this in their previous worlds, please reach out to your clinic staff, any information can be helpful.

For those of you who have been wounded by one of these zombies or have had close physical contact, please report to the clinic. We may be able to help you--and if we can't, maybe we can help keep you from hurting anyone else. I'll do my best to make sure it's the former.

Infected? We're going to restrain all infected patients who come to us. There are precautions. I will not refuse to treat the injured, regardless of how they are injured.

I could just ask the guard to shoot them all in the head. It would be a safer approach. But as it is, I took an oath to help the injured, regardless of any danger to myself, and I plan on keeping that oath. We don't yet know what's going to happen, to any of us.

I'm not sure that um, there's going to be much of an explanation to find? I mean, since they're part of an event, the answer's probably just magic.

[He'd be more curious himself otherwise, but he figures there isn't a good answer and that even if there is they won't have time to find it.]

I'd rather not just not do my job because this might be an 'event,' as you put it. There's always a chance the current pattern will change.

I'm not saying don't do your job, or at least like... The doctor part of it, I'm just saying it might be a huge waste of your time and energy and whatever to look for some sort of logical medical explanation.

[And wasting time and energy during something like this could be really dangerous.]

They'll be gone in a week, or less. Why bother studying them? You won't learn anything, and could just be opening yourself up for accidental infection.

Fear isn't going to let you fix this. You know that, right?

[Not that he can't respect the ethos behind this message, but Sans kinda finds himself erring on the side of agreement with the general crowd here. He's currently camped out beneath the shelves of one of the shops. Literally underneath. He's just kinda sprawled out like that.]

I know you said you'd rather not deal with powers and magic, but I'd be willing to give it a go at healing whoever needs it.

My colleague may be able to assist your studies. He even likes this sort of thing. It may be immediately futile, but there may yet be useful data in it.

It's your choice. I won't force healing on anyone. But there's a place for you, if you don't want to be alone.

Because we don't know for sure they'll be gone in a week or less. We don't know that the effects won't linger. We don't know enough to make those kinds of decisions, and I can't live with myself if I just wash my hands of it all. That's not who I am.

And maybe you're right. My first priority is obviously treating the wounded. But part of that means looking for the cause, and potentially a cure. What if this isn't just magic? What if it sticks around? I'd rather look for answers and not find them than waste the opportunity.

We're dealing with what appears to be the walking dead, pretty sure I should try and set my skepticism aside at this point.

[That's cool. Simon is stubborn enough to argue with the entire cave if he has to. It's a good way to keep himself amped up for what's already starting to look like a long, long week.]

Well, maybe there's a way to unmake them. With or without his help. Are you okay?

Yeah, 'm fine. Just, uh, you can put down that these things not really caring if you've actually got a brain to pick. Y'know, if you're keeping track of that kinda thing.

In my experience, stuff like this clears up on its own after a few days.

I just hate to see people crushed with disappointment and failure.
