[ Curufin is standing in the bay of the pumping station on the north bank of the reservoir. The firefighters finished building and testing the the second of two tanker trucks the day before, and it is ready to be filled with its 11,000 gallons of water. You can hear the noise of the machinery in the background. The first tanker is already filled and ready to go. Outside, the firehouse and the ladder truck beside it are visible. ]
Firefighters and supporting crew, report in! We'll allocate our resources as soon as we know who's available and where we are needed.
And as we're a bit shorthanded, anybody who wants to join us, you are welcome to do so. Post in, and we'll find you a job.
If you want to report the exact location of a fire, or call for emergency help, this is the place to do it!

I ... I think I can help.

Thank you very much! Do you have any particular skills?

Can you go to the fields and lawns between Spire One and the nearby structures? -- I mean, the Library, the houses in the city center, and Spire Four? That whole sweep of land is grassy field, very dry in this summer weather, and very likely to catch fire from sparks from the spire. If you can wet it down, it'll make combustion a lot less likely.
And if you've got any rain left after that, start raining on the Library and the fields to the west of it.
By the way, would you like to join the Fire Brigade Officially?

[She half-laughs, somewhat nervous. She's still not used to thinking of her Nightbane abilities as amazing. It's only in the past few months that she's begun to accept them as an asset rather than something to hide from.]
Yeah, I remember where all that is, I'll get there as soon as I can. I'm gonna look weird, just so you're warned.
[She's already on the move, evident from the sounds in the background. She laughs again, a little less nervous this time.]
Y'might wanna make sure I can actually deliver before you let me join your club. I'm Nick, by the way.
voice
[ He smiles. ] Well, I don't know what you mean by weird, but I'm not going to worry about your appearance. Besides, I'm an Elf. Some people think we look a bit weird.
Okay, if you want to give us a demonstration, I'm good with that. Pleased to meet you, Nick! You can call me Curufin, and my nickname's Curvo.

[She's heard of them, from movies and games her nerd ex-best friend talked about, but she never figured she'd end up meeting one.]
Well, this ain't exactly a secret, but I'm a Nightbane. That means I can do things like make it rain, but I also have to change to do it. So if you see a giant antique doll walkin' around ... that's me. That's what I look like, we call it Morphus.
[It still feels weird, being so open about this big scary secret she's carried with her for the past two years.]
Good to meet you too. I'm gonna get to work now.

A Nightbane, eh? What an evocative term! All right, I am forewarned. But I have seen some strange things in my time, and I don't think I or any other Elf would be rattled by a giant doll.
[ Her secret is safe with him, and if she chooses to share it with others and gets weird responses, he'll defend her. So far as he is concerned, nobody messes with anybody who is willing to risk her life confronting fire! ]
All right, then! Call me if you need anything. And call us anyway, to let us know how it's going.
