[Adam is not terribly fond of posting on the network, where anyone can hear and respond, but this is kind of important. He doesn't sound nervous, just - very controlled as he jumps right into it.]
So, I know of at least a couple of people who were here in Hadriel before, left, and then came back. Neither of them have memories of their initial time here.
I'm interested in anyone else who's had the same thing happen, but - I guess this is also a warning. The Door must do something to us when we leave, something that makes us forget the things that happened here. It's up to you whether you think that's good or bad, but everyone deserves to know.
And if anyone has left and come back but does remember things, say something. So far this seems universal, but there's no way to be sure yet.

[Which is both good and bad.]
Warned that we'd forget?
['Hey bro we had a lot of crazy traumatic adventures, what do you mean you don't remember any of them?' is bound to be kind of awkward.]
Yeah, that'd be weird. A few of my friends are from like... Earlier on in the same night at home than I am, and that's weird enough.
I-I'm a total idiot who obviously wasn't listening too well though, when I first like, responded. My friend remembered what happened here when he left and came back, but he didn't remember anything between; one second he was in the blizzard and then suddenly in the arena like two months later.
No, you're not an idiot - it's good to know. I guess a couple people have remembered and a couple have forgot, so there's no way to predict what will happen to any of us. That's frustrating.
[And he sighs, frustrated indeed.]
He was gone for two months? I wonder if he really left or if - I don't know. Something else happened.
That's weird. You'd think it's be more consistent than that if the same thing's happening each time, so maybe it isn't.
[But then again the Door is some supposed magical portal to other dimensions, so who knows.]
Yeah, he disappeared during the blizzard and showed back up right before the whole... Wendigo thing.
[But how do you do that, really? Ask everyone who leaves and then comes back? Adam doesn't even know who all is here half the time.]
Was he injured or anything? Any changes that you noticed?
[Even if it's some crazy supernatural thing. Wendigos have rules, after all.
He thinks about the question a moment, then nods once slowly.]
Actually, yeah, there was something weird. He uh, he'd burned his hand back home, and while he was here it was healing up. But then when he appeared in the arena again after he'd disappeared, his hand was back to how it was right when he'd gotten here the first time.
[He shakes his head. This doesn't actually make any sense at all, and Adam is a logical sort who really prefers it when things make sense.]
God, this place is messed up.
[Chris is used to thinking about this sort of thing in terms of fiction--he really likes sci-fi--so it hasn't been as big a jump to think about it being reality, but some things are still hard to wrap his brain around. Whatever happened with Mike is one of those.]
Dude, you can say that again. Messed up is a really nice way to put it.
[He's just desperately trying to make some sense of it, even though he doesn't think that's possible.]
[There are a few short spans of that night on the mountain that are blank for him due to being briefly unconscious--thanks, Josh, you suck--but those are expected from the circumstances. He doesn't know anything about any possible supernatural reasons for that sort of thing, like is probably happening here.]
How about your world?
[He says, as if that's - well, not normal, but not a totally crazy thing to have happen to you. It was a totally crazy thing to have happen to him, but it's a lot easier to deal with it if he pretends it's not.]
That was because of magic, and I guess this sort of is, too. If the Door is magic.
[But he won't ask directly, so Adam can avoid explaining if he wants.]
But yeah. I mean, it's either magic or really advanced science and there's a saying about those things being the same.
[Adam is getting a little more open in regards to his own magic - it's easier when there are so many people around here who seem to see it as nothing special.]
But yeah, even if it is science, it's not going to be anything we're capable of understanding. We might as well assume it's magic either way.
[Nothing involving sacrifices is ever good, as a general rule.]
I guess so. But even if we don't understand how it works, maybe we can figure out what whatever it's doing results in enough to predict it. Hopefully.
[Including the whole 'blacking out, losing time, and wandering for miles' thing.]
Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. Right now it seems like we've had about equal amounts of people keeping their memories or not. It's hard to tell, when not many people return here after they've left.
Yeah. Not a whole lot of people seem to leave in general actually, do they?
[The pros and cons of magical bargains.]
But yeah, you're right about that. There's been a trickle of people leaving, but more seem to arrive. Maybe the Door works better one way than the other.
[That sounds... Not awesome. And worrying.]
That might be. Fear uh... Seemed to think it killed people to 'go through it backwards' or something like that.
Or that's what he said, anyway.
[He smiles just a little - actually a little relieved Chris doesn't seem too freaked out. But then, haven't they all already been through weirder stuff?]
Well, that's... unpleasant. But none of them seem to actually know how it works, right? He probably doesn't even know if that's true or not.
He nods, thoughtful.]
Yeah. I don't think he has any real idea, which is... Well, I mean, at least he's probably telling the truth about not bringing us here on purpose and so isn't like, actively trying to keep us from leaving? But on the other hand that means he doesn't know anything that could help, either. Same with the rest of them, probably.
[If even the supposed gods don't know how to get them home, that doesn't really bode well for their chances of ever leaving.]
Have you talked to any of them?
[He nods at the question.]
I've uh, talked to Fear and Hope a few times each, yeah. Fear's better about answering questions, Hope's better about not doing really awful shit to us.
[So, you know, each has their uses.]
I haven't talked to Rage yet, though.
