[ Abruptly, the text is posted, with a video immediately following, the screen initially shaking, jostling, as one voice protests in the background ]

Newton, give it back--!!

--we’re talking about dragons, Hermann! There’s no way you’re doing this in a stuffy text post!

[ The video stabilizes a bit, currently held just out of reach of one (1) Hermann Gottlieb. The arm holding said phone out of reach belongs to one (1) Newt Geiszler. It’s debatable how long he’ll be able to keep it out of Hermann’s grasp, but he sure is going to try.]

[ For a petulant, tortured moment Hermann sincerely looks as though he is about to lunge for the phone, a matter of aggrieved principle and standard outrage. Yet, 1.53 seconds and he thinks better of it. They are recording. He would be seen looking foolish.

Hermann grits his teeth and straightens, standing up, all stiff professionalism as he leans on his cane. He has rarely used video. He hates this. Newton will hear about it later, once the video is off. ]

Fine. As you may know, I am Dr. Gottlieb, that is my colleague--

(Boyfriend!)

[ They are recording. A muscle works in his jaw, but Hermann swallows his protest, resists the urge to throw something at or strangle Newton, and continues-- ]

--Dr. Geiszler. In our world, we worked in Kaiju Science, which to put it succinctly, means we studied the behemoth -- larger than these dragons, I assure you -- alien creatures invading our world, and aided the development and design of offensive and defensive weaponry.

We are requesting data--

[and that’s about the time Newt’s managed to prop the camera up somewhere, and pops fully into view.]

--basically I want any info anyone has about the dragons! Flight patterns, movements, where they’re hanging out, their favorite color--seriously, anything and everything. You notice it, I wanna know it! Aaaaand if you can get scales or something, that’d be super helpful. Or any other bits. The more there is to analyze, the more likely it is that we’ll be able to throw something together.

[and tbh that’s about as much of serious professional as Newt is going to be able to get before really yeah okay he has to fold and his face splits into a wide grin] Also real, live dragons, you guys. Dragons! This is seriously some King Arthur level shit! How cool is this?!

[ observe the look of deep, deep, depthless chagrin as it settles into the lines of Dr. Gottlieb's face, lines carved by almost seven years of this.

LOUDLY: ]

Videos if they may be safely obtained, observations, specifics, as specific as possible. Note the effectiveness of your standard weaponry, or whatever it is you can do and use. The scales would, indeed, be particularly helpful.

Be safe, but be quick and be thorough.

Yeah, don’t die while doing it. That’d be dumb.

[Chris may or may not have been laughing at a lot of these conversations before he decides to reply, and of course he has to do so by affecting a wide-eyed, innocent look of surprise with a tone to match.]

You two are together?

[He manages to keep the surprised look on his face for another second or two before grinning, obviously joking, and moving onto the actual point of the post.]

Uh, everyone from my house is mostly staying inside, but if any of us see anything useful on a supply run or something we'll let you know.

[ This is it. Somehow, after almost seven years of prolonged, intimate exposure to Newton's constant, deliberate antagonizing (\why is he with him), today is the day a blood vessel bursts in his brain and he dies (which, really, not the brain-related ailment once expected to get him), he is on the brink of a conniption,

Not Mr. Chris, too-- ]

He's grinning. It was a joke.

[His grin turns a little more sympathetic, though.]

But no, uh... I get it. I'm pretty sure like, ninety percent of the people who knew both me and my girlfriend while she was here had no idea we were together, and that was pretty on purpose.

[So although he couldn't resist the joke, he does empathize.]

[ Empathy from Mr. Chris is not what surprises.

It is the specific nature of his understanding. He had been quite free with that information, from his first mention of Miss Ashley. Perhaps Hermann was too obviously the sort that either 1) did not care to know in the first place or 2) would do absolutely nothing with it. ]

It must have been easier, given Miss Ashley was not a loose-lipped miscreant intent on disregarding your every request merely for the sake of upsetting you and the apparent inherent humor in that.

[ Isn't Mr. Chris glad he commented, welcome to K-Sci. ]

[It's a lot the latter, really; by the time Hermann arrived Chris and Ashley had gotten more comfortable with the idea of actually being in a relationship and so were being slightly less guarded about it, but the big reason had been that Chris was pretty sure Hermann wasn't--and isn't--the type to meddle in the sort of way they'd wanted to avoid. Chris has had enough of anyone meddling in his relationships to last a lifetime.

Hermann's response is so unexpectedly salty that Chris starts laughing, though he quickly tries to stifle it a bit. He's not sure how much laughing Hermann's mood can handle.]

Yeah, it was definitely easier with Ash.

Fortunately uh, most people here honestly don't care too much about this sort of thing, though.

[ Rightly so. He would be one of the very last to meddle in another person's personal affairs.

His eyes narrow as Mr. Chris laughs, but as there's an obvious attempt to stop it, Hermann's mood survives with only a pursing of his mouth. Tread lightly... or lbr he'll just keep complaining about Newton. ]

They really shouldn't. Aside from the matter of minding one's business, it speaks to priorities.

I think uh, the big problem here is how bored everyone gets.

[And so priorities do get pretty... Questionable, even though in cases like this people's interest is short-lived.]

[ That neatly sidetracks his ire. His mouth twitches. ]

Thus the merit of phone games? If those are the choices -- games, danger, and gossip -- then ours is a bleak society.

Yeah, pretty much. Games and talking and looking for useful stuff, and drinking I guess. People do a lot of drinking.

[Not that he blames them.]

Astonishing we haven't got a load of alcoholics by now.

[It's no surprise that a bunch of traumatized and depressed people stuck in a place with nothing better to do might turn to drinking, even if they hadn't already been inclined before they arrived.]

[Newt, unlike Hermann, laughs once he realizes Chris was making a joke] Shocker, huh? Watch your blood pressure, dude!

[anyway,] Yeah, we're staying inside over here as much as possible also. But just lemmie know if you spot anything.

[Chris presses a hand dramatically to his chest.]

I can't handle these kinds of surprises, bro.

Yeah, uh, not super hype on the idea of doing that. Once was totally enough.

Tell me about it. [anyway] Are you going out much? Because this is like the zombie thing all over again for me; staying inside and hoping they don't get hungry enough to break in.

Um, not unless we have to, but there's like... There's seven of us plus a wolf, so we kind of go through supplies like crazy.

[So if this goes on any length of time, even a day, they'll probably have to make a supply run.]

Shit, dude, yeah, I can see that. [he huffs] Sometimes I wonder if it would be worth our time to dig tunnels to the shops so we have easier access to supplies.

Considering how boring things can get here, yeah, it might be. I'm pretty sure there're still shovels at the armoury too.

[From that one event that sucked really badly. And he's totally not actually considering digging tunnels, despite his response.]

[well, Newt wouldn't want to dig them himself...but he actually seems to be considering the prospect of tunnels] They could be used as storage for supplies also...y'know, just in case things get to the point where all the supplies suddenly goes away.

Yeah, unless like, hidden supplies disappeared too. And um, I would be kind of worried about then collapsing.

[Now that he thinks more about it. Still, if they were for certain stable, then they might indeed be useful.]

Well, it honestly wouldn't be too difficult to make them stable, in theory. We'd just have to make sure they were enforced by timber beams or something. That's how mines're made, right?
