Greetings to all Hadriel denizens, and a welcome to those of you who have only recently arrived. My name is Dr. Hannibal Lecter. My colleague Dr. Lee Rosen and I are both psychiatrists, and would like to extend our services to all of you.

Perhaps you have never experienced therapy before. There are many misconceptions when it comes to psychiatry. You may think that only those who are not mentally sound seek therapy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sometimes the healthiest thing is to seek the assistance of a professional when desiring to understand how both the past and the present are affecting you, and what sorts of behaviors you may alter to ensure for yourself the best future. This is important even in the most mundane of situations, yet ours is far from mundane. The gods play with our emotions. Sometimes we are left to wonder if what we felt was real, or merely an illusion. Either way, the pain is real. And we can help you. Recently the gods allowed us to speak to each other anonymously over the network. The outpouring of raw feeling, of fear and worry and sorrow, was striking. There was some solace in speaking to our fellow citizens. Perhaps even more may be found in utilizing the training and talent of Dr. Rosen and myself.

We would like to hold open office hours at the clinic, if those who run the facility are amenable. In the meantime, you may contact either of us for an appointment. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

That is a good question. Even in mundane situations, it is a highly recommended practice that therapists have therapists of their own. It would be best if there were more than the two of us, but until the gods decide to grace us with another colleague, Dr. Rosen and I will likely assist each other in this capacity.

We can't promise a perfect system. It would be insulting to you and everyone here if we tried to pretend that we could. Particularly since Hannibal and I are both fresh meat here, so to speak.

But I think we would benefit from knowing more about what kind of curveballs the gods might throw at us. Our efforts will prove useless if we are uninformed.

You're asking for people to place a great deal of trust in you. What will stop you from turning around and using that information against them?

You're absolutely right. Therapy requires a tremendous amount of trust. And I understand that not everyone will be comfortable with that. We can offer our credentials, for as far as those go. In addition, this is a rather small community we have. If we do not honor the confidential requirements of our profession, or the Hippocratic oath of do no harm, it is quite likely to become quite public.

Unfortunately, no. Therapy is a private, personal thing, and while there are times when mandating care is necessary, it is best that people approach it on their own terms whenever possible.

Both Dr. Rosen and myself are psychiatrists and have training as physicians as well. My own training in particular is surgical.

To be expected, I suppose. There are those who see our services as a good idea, and others who are...afraid might be the best term. Many have valid concerns, and are willing to engage rationally with us to allay them. On the whole, I'd say it is all rather promising.

Indeed. In my world, I would estimate that a significant majority of people have been in therapy at one time or another.

Where I am from, madhouses have, let us say, fallen out of fashion. There are still institutions for those who are a danger to themselves or others, but otherwise those in need of psychiatric care are seen on an outpatient basis.
