I have a project in mind. We have a city guard and a city clinic, and I was thinking we need some city firefighters, too. Then we'll have a trio of emergency services.
[ He's had it in mind since the ceiling of Guard HQ fell in on him while the building was burning at the end of the Doubles event. But also, there was talk of other incendiary incidents -- such as the one Sato was involved in? And Curufin himself had, erm, something to do with a few of the Colosseum walls being demolished by explosives while he was under the influence of Rage. And then there was the tragic demise of Delight's Bar. ]
In Hadriel, we are not strangers to the dangers of fire. Moreover, we could potentially see worse events than those that have occurred so far. And yet, here we are with no better ideas for dealing with fire than the traditional bucket brigade, and we have no real organization even for that!
So, I propose that we organize, recruit, build our own equipment, and train ourselves. I would welcome volunteers, ideas, and expertise. We will need people who will be firefighters, and we will also need people who will work in a support capacity (fire engine drivers, mechanics, electricians, and anything else we can think of).
If you would like totake insane risks, and don't mind ending up as toast, or at least dealing with a fair number of ouchies on a regular basis fight fires, or if you would prefer to work in a support role, then you are welcome to join the Hadriel Fire Brigade!
Respond here if you have questions, comments, or want to volunteer. (Or hit me up at my voicemail.)

Maglor listens, watches Curufin, tries to make sense of the world around him ]
I am glad you are happy. [ He says softly. That is all that matters, really. His brother is well, he's happy ]
I watched the White Ship sail. [ He murmurs ] You have all been gone for so long. But I watched. I waited. Sauron is overthrown and Galadriel sails, and I remain.
[ THreads of white, in hair that should be as black as Curufin's own, age carried on the soul ]
action
And Fingon is here, too! [ As of course Maglor knows since they're all living in the same house. ] Strangely, we get along. I wouldn't have missed that for the world. It feels like yet another second chance.
[ His eyes shining. ] I hope. . . I hope that you will be all right here, too.
You saw Galadriel's ship leave the Grey Havens? I guess she must have sailed at last. I am glad to have it verified that Sauron was finally overthrown, like his Master.
[ He sees the threads of silver in his brother's hair, and strokes them softly. ] You outlived us by whole Ages, I take it. I am sorry you were alone.
action
[ Than Beleriand, than madness and cruelty and the Oath eating away at them all ]
I don't know, Curvo. But I will try, since you are all here. As for our little Artanis, she has grown wise and great, and won her battle, and I am pleased that she returns home. Poor Uncle Arafinwe! At least one of his children will return to him by the Sea instead of the Halls, and she will do so victorious, as none of us could do.
[ He leans a little into the stroking hand ] Two Ages of the world. [ He murmurs softly ] It is...what it is.
action
No one ever knows, until we try. [ Hadriel being what it is. ] But you have family to support you here, and you can have friends, too. We never did that, really, back in Beleriand, we Fëanorians -- outside of the family, we had allies, but not friends. Here, we have the choice of connecting with those we're not related to. It's not always easy, but it's worth the effort.
[ He smiles. ] I remember Artanis when she was little. Smart, swift in a race, sharp in a game of chess, a little shy but very sweet. She grew up to be a fine young woman, and I wish we had cared to keep her as a friend. But things got ugly even before we left Aman. . . I think I stopped talking to her around the same time as I stopped talking to Finrod. [ Thoughtful, and a little sad. ] But I am glad that she came into her own, finally. And that she prevailed against our common enemy. She deserved such a victory. And though I never had much affinity for Uncle Arafinwë, I wish him well, and hope that he is proud of his beautiful, gallant Queen of a daughter.
[ He remembers that Maglor always did like to have his hair stroked. He was very catlike in that!! ] Two Ages. How did you pass the time?
Re: action
I do not know if I remember how. [ he murmurs softly ] But I can try, I suppose.
And I am sure he is - she has endured and she has won. As for me... I... [ tried very hard to Fade but it turns out I am too good at not dying ] .... wandered, mostly. Watched.
action
You'll remember, and I believe you can. I have much faith in you, brother.
[ Not being good at dying is probably a good thing, in the long run. Especially since it is a skill the rest of the family doesn't seem to have. Maglor could teach the rest of them! ] Poor Maglor, I wish I could have been with you! Where did you go? And if you watched, what did you see? Were you proud of what the Elvish race accomplished after the end of the First Age?
action
[ He shrugs a little, a quiet smile ]
We will be nought but memories, soon. Tales told to children. Our time in Middle-earth is done... but... there were good things too.
action
So. . . you just kept moving. I can understand that. I just wish. . .
[ Very loving look. He doesn't finish the wish. ]
I suppose so. Well, we knew that from way back, right? -- that the Secondborn Children were going to replace us. We just didn't want to know. Or rather, Father just didn't want to know. But I agree with you, there was much good in our lives, in the collective lives of Elves in Middle-earth. It wasn't all bad. And I guess you saw much that was good, in the Second Age.
action
There was much joy as well as grief. But by the end of the Second Age it was clear our time was running out. Many left then. But those who stayed...even in the Third Age, there was still brightness. But our time is over - it was made brutally obvious. Only the Silvan will stay, I think, and I do not know how long they will manage to hold out.
action
[ Small chuckle. ] Well, there will be a few diehards, I'm sure. Certainly the Silvan Elves. But I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Sindar and even some of the Noldor remain until long after the Way is closed forever. I know that if I were still there, I would be one.
I wonder what the future will hold for mortals, and for anyone who elects to stay there?
action
The Noldor will all go... I think Elrond's sons are some of the few left, them and the Wandering Companies, but most of Gildor's folk are sailing, now - it will not be long.
Some of the Sindar... yes, the few Doriathrim left are stubborn enough to hold out a while longer, maybe forever.
[ Maglor, of course, remains ]
action
Yes, I suppose if Artanis was leaving, so would the rest of the Exiles. Or most of the rest. [ He still thinks it likely that some of the Noldorin people might be too fascinated with the world to leave it, though he can't prove it. ] The Sindar were always more anchored in Middle-earth, and the Ossiriandi, too.
[ He looks at Maglor. ] But you weren't going to leave, were you?
action
[ He looks back at his brother, and for a moment the mask he always holds flickers, aching longing peeking through ]
I can't.
action
And then in Middle-earth, our mortal friends lived and died so quickly. And yet, most of us, the Firstborn, departed so swiftly ourselves!
[ Oh Maglor, your brother has seen the aching even when you were holding the mask up! ]
And you can't, because. . . ?
action
[ He looks away ]
There is no return for an Exile.
