I have a project in mind. We have a city guard and a city clinic, and I was thinking we need some city firefighters, too. Then we'll have a trio of emergency services.
[ He's had it in mind since the ceiling of Guard HQ fell in on him while the building was burning at the end of the Doubles event. But also, there was talk of other incendiary incidents -- such as the one Sato was involved in? And Curufin himself had, erm, something to do with a few of the Colosseum walls being demolished by explosives while he was under the influence of Rage. And then there was the tragic demise of Delight's Bar. ]
In Hadriel, we are not strangers to the dangers of fire. Moreover, we could potentially see worse events than those that have occurred so far. And yet, here we are with no better ideas for dealing with fire than the traditional bucket brigade, and we have no real organization even for that!
So, I propose that we organize, recruit, build our own equipment, and train ourselves. I would welcome volunteers, ideas, and expertise. We will need people who will be firefighters, and we will also need people who will work in a support capacity (fire engine drivers, mechanics, electricians, and anything else we can think of).
If you would like totake insane risks, and don't mind ending up as toast, or at least dealing with a fair number of ouchies on a regular basis fight fires, or if you would prefer to work in a support role, then you are welcome to join the Hadriel Fire Brigade!

[Then it'd definitely be worse.]

But I wonder. . . sometimes when things become really terrible, people band together instead of fighting one another. They do the exact opposite of what you might expect. And here in Hadriel, if worst ever came to worst, I wonder which approach would prevail? -- competition or cooperation?
[Depending on individual personalities, past experiences, the current situation; it'd be a mess, though, that's for sure.]
Wasn't there an event a few months ago where something like that happened? The city itself was split?
[He's heard about it from Rosen, though it had been right before Lance had arrived.]
It was terrible for all of us, but especially those of us who had friends, relatives, or loved ones left behind with Fear. They eventually worked it out. Fear got his energy, and he brought his half of the city here and united the halves.
And yes, people cooperated with each other and with the gods. I think everyone did. All of our lives depended on it.
That explains a lot, thank you. I'd heard the event was particularly bad, but I arrived just after it ended.
[Although he supposes that if the gods didn't do it on purpose to gain energy it doesn't really count as an event, but whatever. Though actually, another thought occurs to him--]
I wonder if that had anything to do with there being no monsters in the arena the month I arrived? I heard that's never happened before.
I heard that, too. I wonder if the gods just didn't have enough energy left to scavenge the multiverse for new creatures? We sure had plenty of tunnel predators left; they could have used some of those. [ A little bit of sarcasm. ] But I guess they thought that would be kind of tacky. They usually display much more panache in their Colosseum selections!
Yeah, you can't reuse monsters. Repeats aren't very frightening.

No, we've seen this movie already! Booooo! Hiss! [ Miming a dissatisfied moviegoer razzing the film. ]
{{ OOC: Oops, Curufin got the story wrong. His player didn't go back and check her facts before writing. XD Hope, Fear, Rage and Delight were on the A Side. It was Fear who moved the halves of the city, but I think it was Hope who was really concerned about the fate of the A Side Hadrielites. }}
