06 | Video

[ It's obvious this is being filmed in one of the many temples, all cool hard stone behind her, and, given the subject matter of the video, most likely to be Hope's. Sharon does not look pleased. Furious might be the better descriptor but it's a calm sort of fury. There are a few spatters of dark blood on her cheeks, dried and cracking; old. She has no wounds just stains and memories. She leans in towards the lens and whispers: ]

So, which one of you fuckers killed me? [ Her killer could reply, he might not, but she won't stop until she finds him and returns the favor. ]
notimpervious: (demonstrating confusion)

video; lmao

[She's....confused....]

What do you mean?
torrefied: (there's seven for the days)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-07-26 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, Temperance, that for how much you seem to prize your intellect, you are incredibly stupid.

[Sorry, Mom. The boy has exactly zero chill when it comes to Sharon.]
notimpervious: (seeking faint signs from the universe)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-07-26 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's not bothered, because...]

That is true. I'm afraid I am quite lacking in social intelligence.

[She allows the use of her given name because ultimately, her title is meaningless here, and this boy does not respect her enough for a reminder of her title to set him straight on it.]
torrefied: (this ain't no singing in the rain)

cw kinda encouraging suicide, sorry again about him /o\

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-07-26 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least she isn't denying it.]

Tell you what - I'm seconding Sharon's suggestion. Go get yourself killed once or twice and see for yourself what "the resurrection process" is like. There's no substitute for firsthand observation, after all.
notimpervious: (genuine expression of happiness)

lmao she's 2 for 2 omg👌🏼

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-07-26 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[You can't deny facts, son.]

No, there is not. Given that this is a recurring suggestion, I will be taking it very seriously. Thank you.
torrefied: (and turning all against one)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-07-27 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[That is just. Not the way people usually take this sort of exchange.]

What is wrong with you?
notimpervious: (demonstrating confusion)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-07-27 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Why do people here automatically assume something is wrong? What did she do? Where is Booth when you need him to steer you in the right direction socially...]

I don't understand.
torrefied: (nice work you did)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-08-01 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't either. Understand you, I mean.

[And he's definitely not still experienccing bleedover from Michael Drake's life. Nope.]
notimpervious: (what are you thinking)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-08-01 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now she understands even less.]

As I am not the subject of this conversation, I do not see how that is a problem. However, you are not the first or the last to not understand me.

[None at all from being Michael Drake's mother what are you talking about.]
torrefied: (take a look; it's all around you)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-08-02 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You're the subject of the conversation now. You're honestly taking a suggestion to commit experimental suicide under consideration?
Edited 2017-08-02 17:59 (UTC)
notimpervious: (the answers are sure to come)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-08-02 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[She is surprised he seems concerned in any way. As Michael, he hadn't exactly shown her that he cared. He isn't Michael, of course, but still. It had felt very real.]

Yes. [And? ...no, she will not add that.] Does that bother you?
torrefied: (there's a pattern in the system)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-08-02 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's an incredibly stupid idea. Dying is painful and unpleasant - [which he would know from experience, yes] - and while Hope usually does bring back those who've died, there's no guarantee he will continue to do so. Do you really care so little about your own life?
notimpervious: (seeking faint signs from the universe)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-08-03 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
In fact, death by oxygen deprivation is like falling asleep, so it need not be unpleasant.

[Just saying.]

First, you suggest I seek out death here, and now you question my acceptance of your suggestion. Do you not stand by your suggestion after all? Do you care if I live or die? Aside from our false bond last week, you and I are strangers.
torrefied: (there's eight in the river)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-08-03 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you haven't been paying attention, but the chances of you dying here by oxygen deprivation are fairly slim.

[Although apparently there was an episode before he arrived where Fear buried half the people alive.]

That "false bond" means nothing to me, so don't get any weird ideas. No one ever takes that suggestion seriously. It doesn't require much in the way of common sense to see that it's a bad idea, so frankly, yes, I'm surprised you're considering it.
notimpervious: (what are you thinking)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-08-03 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[...she just frowns.] I only mentioned it as a counterpoint to your statement that dying is painful and unpleasant. It need not be.

[She knows what that's like. Not good. The waiting to die part is the worst of it.]

Good, I'm glad we have clarified that.

If no one takes the suggestion seriously, then why make the suggestion in the first place when evidently I asked a question in the spirit of scientific inquiry?
torrefied: (ten of the worst kind sleeping in my bed)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-08-04 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Because it's designed to make you think.

[He sighs tiredly. Why is this is his life.]

Is it really so difficult for you to consider that your line of questioning is invasive, callous, and unwanted for someone who has just been murdered? The spirit of scientific inquiry has no place here. You said that your work includes identifying murder victims, and maybe they can't tell you what their experiences were like, but have you honestly never given any thought to it? Not as a scientist - as a human being. What it feels like to have your throat slit. What it feels like to be burned alive.

[Projecting? Maybe a little.]

Are you honestly so immersed in the scientific method that you have no room for imagination?
notimpervious: (i need no soft lights to enchant me)

[personal profile] notimpervious 2017-08-04 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Then it was designed very poorly, because it did not convey your point properly.

[Translation: be more literal and specific next time.

Brennan presses her lips into a line as she waits for him to finish his tirade, breathing deeply. This is not the first time she has heard this, and frankly, it has been said better to her. It is still somewhat upsetting -- evidently, she still comes across cold and callous -- but it is also old news.]

In fact, I can imagine quite well what it must feel like to die any number of ways. A person's bones can tell me about their entire life in a matter of hours. I work to give a voice to their final moments, to let their loved ones know that someone cares enough to devote themselves to finding out the truth. I divorce my metaphorical heart from every case in pursuit of the truth, but I am ultimately human. I may compartmentalize, but I also feel. I know how long a person suffered being hung by their feet before they took their last breath. I can say with absolute certainty how much pain a person was in before they died. I am able to tell a mother that her child's end was swift and painless, even if that is a lie.

[She has watched a man die from a bullet to the heart, pressed her hands against the hole as the muscle stopped pumping, desperate to save him though she knew that he was gone. She knows what death looks like. Every skeleton was once a person. Angela has reminded her of that for years, even when she knows that Brennan remembers it.]

A scientist with no imagination -- where do you think curiosity comes from? We seek answers because we create questions from where there were none. [A quiet sigh.] I have apologized to Sharon and offered her my condolences. It was thoughtless to immediately ask her what I did. But do not mistake that thoughtlessness for a lack of empathy. If I lacked that, I would look for answers by murdering our fellow captives.
torrefied: (what i thought it was it isn't now)

[personal profile] torrefied 2017-09-17 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Or, perhaps you're not as good at understanding as you like to think you are.

[Don't question his methods!! He sighs tiredly. And people say he talks too much.]

Look, I have no interest in furthering this argument with you, nor do I care to detail the fallacy of your claim. People kill for all sorts of reasons, empathy or otherwise, and making such a sweeping generalization is both lazy and wrong. If you've apologized to Sharon, then I'm done here.
