If anyone has information about the Door that is not yet public knowledge, now would be a good time to share it.

Additionally, if you are capable of fending off the types of creatures that appear in the Colosseum and have at least some modicum of intellectual capacity... or at least the ability to read and not touch things you've been told not to, I'm looking for assistance. Contact me.

What's your plan?

( She's not had any luck looking for it with her own power but then this place doesn't work like home does. Who knows what rules govern The Door's existence, or if it's even a power in the sense of something she can detect? )

[Marian hasn't exactly made it a secret that she (and Alphys!) have been trying to find the Door for some time now, but after the second contact from the Null... well, she's even less sure how much to say about anything. But the network is pretty much the only way of reaching out to the community, so here we are.]

Do you have anything to contribute or not?

( Right, but after the Null making empty promises... )

Can do. Just want to know if there's more than just hoping you see something. Tried that already.

[It's not much of an invitation to talk, but the enigmatic words are typed much more out of uncertainty than any desire to actually be ~vague~. Marian is indeed in the lab as usual, and while Marian knows not everyone has her memory... well if Kate can't find remember, that's her problem.]

( She does remember that much. Honestly, she spent so much time traversing Hadriel, using its streets and rooftops, that the memories of the layout came back immediately.

And, well, it's not hard to remember removing a fridgeful of monster meat from the lab. )

What's your plan?

[Marian isn't a huge fan of dealing with as many people as she has been, so answers the door looking fairly displeased with life -- not that it's that unusual for her in any case. Not answering the question at all, she replies snappishly:]

Come on in. What did you mean by you 'tried that already'? I only ask since Alphys and I have been uncovering a few details here and there about how the Door works. I don't want to waste time on approaches that have already failed.

( Well. The easiest way to explain is to show what she means. Enjoy the sudden shift of her eyes to blinding, all-white light, Miriam. )

Can see powers. Tried searching it out last time I were here, but-

( Vague gesture as her eyes slide back to their normal brown. )

If it is powered by summat, I dunno what.

( Though Kate doesn't know whether that's because it isn't there, or because Hadriel native powers are just beyond what she can see. )

[WOW OKAY that's not great, and Marian's reaction is an almost instantaneous horrified recoil away from Kate. Eyes shouldn't do that... but the revert back to normal is fast enough that Marian's just left gripping the edge of the table behind her, white-knuckled, heartrate a little faster than usual.]

'Powers'... right. What does... that mean? Or is this another inexplicable 'magic' ...thing?

[Despite the snide remark, she still has to gulp a little air. It's fine..]

( Sometimes, it's easy to forget that being back here comes with the fact that not everyone is as accustomed to powers and how they work as she is. That, like the humans back home she never really sees outside of errand running, they probably find it all a curiosity. It's all too easy to be isolated in a community where glowing eyes are the least weird thing about. )

Wouldn't call 'em inexplicable.

( Are you sure you want to go down this path, Miriam. It's impossible not to know too much about powers when you make your living off them. )

As biological as blood or bone, back home. Guess you'd say it were like another organ - lets us interact with the world different. Gods' powers seemed similar enough but haven't had luck interactin' with any of 'em.

( Kate hasn't figured out why that is, yet. If she ever will. )

Hmph. [Marian snorts, relaxing a little. At least this isn't a case of someone calling it 'magic'. Biology is a long way from her field of expertise though.]

What have you tried? Have you tried 'interacting' with any of the parasites directly?

( "Magic" - or, in her case, power - is an easy enough way to explain it if someone doesn't want to know more. I was born like this. That's all most people care about.

A shake of her head at that question. )

Don't tend to talk with 'em person-to-... ( Glowcloud? ) person, I guess. ( And giving it a go, while doable, could easily backfire if they figured it out, took it the wrong way. ) Even so, could be that The Door uses summat different from whatever their powers are.

What were your plan?

( This is really what she wants to know. )

'Could be' is pointless conjecture at this point when we don't even know where it is or what it looks like.

Alphys and I have already done some preliminary work towards finding the Door... or at least, characterizing the signatures associated with its activity. I want to take some of our equipment to the coliseum to get a more accurate reading when the next batch of unfortunates is brought in. I wouldn't call that much of a plan yet, but there's not much else we can do without more information.

( Well, yes, Marian. Conjecture is most of what they have. )

So, neither of you fight, then?

( Eh, sign her up. )

( Depends on what comes in next month, but doesn't it always. )

Might want to get insect repellent or summat.

No, neither of us 'fight'. I wouldn't say it's a typical skill, at least where I come from.

I also assume that whatever horrible monstrosity is brought in next time will be different than the last.

( Kate doesn't look much more impressed either. )

Not where you come from. ...Ever thought about learning?

( She doesn't have a problem with helping people out, fighting for them, but there's always a chance that something will happen here. That people will be caught out without someone capable of fighting nearby. )

No, I haven't. My skills lie in other areas.

( Kate shrugs that admission off, like it's no big deal. She was an athlete. Her powers meant for analysis and communication, not combat. Her fear- well. She still learned. )

So I gathered, and hence the purpose of posting to the usually-unhelpful network. It seems that while intelligence may be lacking, at least it's a useful resource for collecting more physically-minded assistance.

( Well, intelligence is lacking because none of them have been here for That long, if you think about it. And the gods and books are unhelpful. So it's not the point, but never mind. Kate just wants to organise something. )
