Hey, Hadriel. My name's Drake, I'm... not exactly new, but figure I should introduce myself anyway since I'm about to ask a personal question. I'm from a human world where there isn't any magic. But I keep hearing that people here have powers and I'm curious what kinds. I've met a couple healers, and that's pretty amazing. And helpful -- thanks, guys, if you're watching.

So. What can you do?

[ The feed shifts like he's about to turn it off, then thinks better of it and adds: ]

I thought I said no names! [Lup teases with a grin, unable to help herself.

As far as random network questions go, this one is particularly interesting to her, considering it means she can showcase her talents. And showboating is something the Taaco twins do best.]

Pretty sure the easier question to answer is what can't I do. Looking for anything specific, my man?

Whoops. [ Drake grins back, wry. ] I still don't know yours, you can keep your mystery a little longer if you want.

Well what's been useful for you here? The healers are obviously getting a workout, I'd imagine any offensive abilities do too considering how often it sounds like creatures attack. Did you help out the new arrivals?

Hm, I'll take you up on that, Drake. Girls should keep a little air of mystery.

And you got it in one! Offensive all the way. I'm a wizard, evocation specialist. Basically, my specialty is power over the elements. A little fire, a little frost, etc etc. It's been pretty handy for the new arrival waves so far. I've always found that there's not much that can withstand being set on fire.

[ Drake makes a 'not bad' sort of face, as he files away the information. A wizard, like in fairy tales? ]

Power over the elements. Damn. That must've been handy against the wasps especially, huh?

Do you have to give up your own energy to call an element or is it more of a spellwork kinda deal? Wizards usually use spells in the stories from my world.

[Lup laughs, a natural reaction for her, mouth curling into a wide, amused grin.] Oh yeah, hella handy.

Nope! [The woman shifts as she puts a particular emphasis on popping that p, moving from where she'd been hunched over her phone to flopping onto her stomach instead, bare feet visible in the air behind her head. She looks like she's in a room, probably her bedroom, but her bed seems awfully high, close to the ceiling.]

All spellwork. We have to do some major studying up on our shit beforehand, but our only real constraint is the amount of spells we can cast at a time. [Lup's head tips curiously to the side.] Consider me curious. What exactly do your stories say about wizards?

[ More nodding and filing away, though he's genuinely curious. Wizards.

It looks like he's speaking from his apartment, too, part of the couch and a window visible behind him showing the city. ]

Wizards usually have a spellbook written in some cryptic language, wands or a staff, rock the robes and tall hats. Sometimes they fight dragons. Any of that ringing true?

Hello Drake! I'm Rydia, your local summoner. My specialization is to call creatures in battle who share with me their power and help me defeat our enemies... and I'm also good with black magic, the offensive kind of spells.

While calling seems impossible for me in this place I can still use black magic and I will be honest, it can be pretty useful: a fire spell can light up a fire, of course, with an ice spell you can create cubes to cool off your drinks or small blocks to place on wounds, all elements can be used to help around with everyday things.

Hey Rydia. You answered my question but now I have a bunch more. Like how'd you learn to do all that? And what powers your spells? And why's it called black magic?

It's okay, I like to share things about my world and Ill be more than happy to share my knowledge with you!

So, how did I start to learn magic? I... don't quite remember, I was a child and you could say I was a natural. Learning magic is very personal, I think, but it mostly comes from being able to transpose your thoughts into reality. Let's say I'm teaching you the spell fire, the most basic of the attacks: you need to clear your mind and create the image of pure fire then you bring it to the outside. Magic requires some imagination and great mental focus and I'm afraid I cannot eplain it in an easier way? It comes so natural after a while.

Oh, also... our spells are powered with mana. I can't explain what is it, it's some energy that grows inside of us and it's costantly replenishing over time, even if slowly. I know some creatures have an infinite pool of mana but my studies never wen really in understanding the nature of my powers.

[And now the hardest question]

I... don't know. Healing magic is associated with white, probably because most healing spells leave a shiny white aura, and... since elemental magic is the opposite bringing destruction they associated it the color black?

So it's not a spell with words, it's just like channeling it through yourself? Using your mana to power it.

[ He considers that... frowns a little. ]

Have you ever run out of mana to spare during a fight? That could be really dangerous to use too much, right? It's like your life energy.

[ And black magic doesn't mean evil to her, okay. Drake files that away as well, as a difference in terminology. ]

You can't heal?

You need your voice to chant, it helps focusing... and one of the easiest ways to neutralize a magical team is to mute the casters. Fortunately enough there are items that can cure or prevent that. Still, without mana...

[She giggles nervously]

Of course I have. There's a spell, osmose, that allows me to steal mana from others and ethers can provide me the missing mana. It doesn't really hurt me when I'm low on mana, I'm just... useless?

[It can cost Rydia her life, of course, but that's the main reason she travels with companions who can cover her while she drinks down ethers.]

I... black magic and white magic doesn't necessarily exclude each other, sages are known because they mastered both. The point is... most people only specialize in one kind of school to get the most out of it. In my case it's a bit different and I- don't think I can heal anymore..

Magic exists in my world but I've never cast a spell. [That's something she's never needed or wanted to do.]

Hey Jo. So you don't have to be a wizard or a summoner to cast a spell where you're from? Anybody can do it?

[ Since that seems to be the running theme -- people seem to specialize in some form of magic, practice that exclusively. And Jo's never identified herself as anything besides a fighter. ]

( Kate's never been secretive about her powers here, first because it was impossible to figure out how to use them in this mess of different worlds and now simply because it seems pointless to hide them anyway. It's useful for people to know that she's there, if their powers are screwed up.

So, Drake, we hope you're not too freaked out by the glowing, white eyes on your feed. )

Nope. All you need are the components, usually. [She shrugs.]

Some people specialize in it, I guess, witches and stuff, but you don't have to to use it.

I'm a wizard focusing on evocation magic like Lup. I suck at healing, though. You seriously don't have any magic at all where you're from?

[ Whoa. That sure is a thing! Drake grins easily, though, as he responds. ]

Hey, if I had that I wouldn't have to ask. Pretty cool.... and it works even here, with people from all different worlds?

[Back home, this isn't really something Raidou can talk about with other people. His position is sort of an open secret in some circles, and a total secret in most others. It's cool to have the freedom in Hadriel to just talk to people about summoner stuff.]

I can't really cast much in the way of spells on my own. But I'm a demon summoner. I make contracts with them and we work together, and they use their magic to help me out.

Like who?

I bet the healers here would help you out, if you wanted... sounds like they could always use more help. And no, there's no magic at all. This place is kind of a trip.

A demon summoner, huh... so your powers don't work here, either?

How do you convince demons to help you?

They work, but I haven't met any other demons here yet. I had several before coming here, but only two seemed to have made the trip with me.

Depends on the demon. Most want something from you; money, food, entertainment. Some want to fight you. They can be unpredictable, but in some respects, they're not much different than people.

Uh... One of the other elves here. She saved my ass when I showed up a few days ago.

[Kyna's not actually sure healing and having a good bedside manner is something she could pull off, but hey.]

( Good lad. Kate switches her powers off with a blink, back to her standard brown eyes without a second's pause. )

Most part. It's a bit harder to figure out, but haven't come across too much trouble.

( Admittedly, she doesn't try too hard here, because damn, do you know how much of a headache it can be? )

You sure there's no magic back home?

( But more importantly, she does enjoy reminding people of this. Just because you haven't personally seen it etc. )

Though I have no special abilities of my own, my work back home focused on individuals who had begun to develop enhanced capabilities that many might mistake for 'super powers' or, in some extreme cases, magic.
