What you have seen in the mirrors is no different from experiencing a nightmare while you slumber. The images need not be reality, though if that must be so, I encourage you to face them bravely. They are the worst, are they not? All else is, therefore, better, by comparison, at least.

You seemed focused on making your point. I may have assumed too much.
If that is what makes a monster, I once qualified. (Monsters are generally the creations of Morgoth or Sauron on Arda. He does not even think his serially murdering family qualifies!)

Said monsters, at least, can sometimes be treated rather than killed off. Maybe in that sense you're right after all, about softer emotions.

There is hope for them. (Reuniting with his family - his father - has done wonders for him.) Warm homes can make all the difference.
