Good morning, everyone!
[Delmar waves with a timid excitement at the screen, blushing in his shyness but it's taken him an hour to work up the courage to make this announcement and so he's got to go through with it now or never! And in his anxiousness he hasn't even realized that there are a few drops of yellow and pink paint on his cheek]
I was wondering if, um, if perhaps anyone wasn't busy if they'd like to come help me paint the walls of my apartment? I thought they were too dreary so I wanted to brighten them.

[He fumbles a bit with the phone to get a view of where he's painted one part of a wall with a cheerful and child-like representation of New York with a bright sun and clouds above it. He then returns the screen to himself]
Anyone is more than welcome, I have paint and I also have treats if anyone might be hungry.
[Delmar then looks uncertain, unsure what else to say]

Sometimes my memory gets away from me. James and Catherine would always scold me for that, for saying stupid things I mean...
[Delmar's voice drifts off a bit before he diverts his attention elsewhere]

Or...well, I suppose I used to. Now i only live next door to Catherine and James' sister
[He falters]
You see James passed away very suddenly only a few days before I arrived here....He was an actor, a very good one.

Because even if maybe in the end James hadn't thought of him as a friend, he had been Delmar's, and no slur shouted at him could convince him otherwise.
Besides, could he really blame James? Wasn't it more accurate that Delmar had been in the wrong? For wanting what he did? For hoping for it? Yes, how unfair he had been to James.
Poor James.]
We were, um, well...we were friends.

they were these huge skyscrapers in manhattan. the twin towers.
but they got destroyed in a terrorist attack back in 2001. 9/11 so watch out for that if ur still around. that shit was scary af.
they built a new tribute building at ground zero a few years back. thats the cool one i was talkin abt.

[When Delmar thinks 'buildings going up in an attack' his mind goes to Dresden and to Hiroshima. A lot of people died. And the ones who didn't often would have liked to have traded places with those who had. And all of it humans had inflicted on one another]

He shows up not too long after and actually knocks on Delmar's door like a civilized human being. Usually he just walks in for friends but he's legitimately afraid that might give Del a heart attack??]

When Harlan knocks, Delmar calls out a chipper 'just a moment!' and hurries over to the door, pulling it open with a grin]

[He closes the door gently before gesturing towards the longest of the walls in his apartment. On it there are some modest paintings of New York, a happy sun, the hudson river in a color of blue it hasn't been in any living memory, and here and there are some little people]
It's not very impressive but I think its cheerful [Delmar peeks at Harlan shyly as he awaits his opinion]

[He means it. Sure, maybe it's lacking in skill, but Harlan appreciates Delmar's effort. That's what counts here.]
