[For once Matt has the video on. It's no use to him, but he wants his face to be seen this time, because this is serious. And he's furious.]

I'm going to guess most of us read the post that the ones who call themselves the Null posted. If you didn't, it's because you're on their list. The list of targets they've asked us to kill in exchange for the location of the god killer. I'm not the first to post about it either, but the louder the signal, the less chance it can be missed or ignored.

And it needs to be known.

I'm no fan of the "gods" who brought us here. I'm no fan of these null either. But I refuse to stand by while people are used as pawns and killed. This is their game, not ours.

[Okay... so she's on the hitlist of something she hadn't even heard of a month ago. Fantastic.]

I'm not alone. If I can get a gun, I know how to use it.

[She has R with her, but she isn't sure how much use he'd be in a fight against these... things.]

Guns is something I can't help with. But it wouldn't hurt to arm ourselves, if we can.

[That said.] Armory would be a good place for an ambush though, if anyone were waiting to take these assholes up on their offer.

[A frown flickers across her face, but she gets it. No one's just going to be handing out guns... but where she figured she could do without one before, it now feels a hell of a lot more urgent.]

Or they could be waiting there, for people who are just trying to defend themselves. Are these creeps really going to care if the person who gets killed wasn't on their list? They just want someone who will kill for them, right?

The deal was for someone on the list, but who's to say. They're trying to turn us against each other, and that could spiral into chaos very quickly if anyone takes the bait.

[Matt doesn't want that to happen, will do whatever he can to stop it. But he also doesn't know the intricacies of politics here well enough. Who would be most willing to try something like this?]

You're right.

[Julie huffs out a breath. She can see where this could go as well as Matt can (metaphorically speaking), and she doesn't like the idea of a blood bath happening because stupid people are panicking.]

I'm Julie, by the way. I... want to help to keep people safe, if I can.

Matt. And so do I, Julie.

[A frown on his features as he considers what else to say.] I want to believe that most of us do, most of us don't want to see anyone hurt. So we'll work together. Whatever it takes.

What about the people who do want to see people hurt? I saw at least one, before they threw their tantrum at me.

[There were bound to be people who would go along with what the Null wanted. She didn't think they'd be so obvious about it, though.]

Can we really keep everyone safe?

Those people need to be stopped, if they try anything.

[A frown.] But we need to avoid starting a witch hunt and pointed fingers too. If we start tearing ourselves apart, either way, the Null win.

[And that is the question.]

We can try. And I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure no one does. [Matt has never been good at standing by, and he can't start now.]

[Julie nods slowly, then makes a small 'mm-hm' sound.]

Sometimes things... aren't what they seem, right? You have to make sure you know what you're doing. [Recent experience has taught her that. She doesn't know what she's going to say to her dad, but it doesn't feel right to just carry on killing zombies like they don't feel anything.]

But I don't want to let those things win. I can't just sit around and do nothing because they kicked me out of their party.

That's it exactly. The only way we can judge someone is by their actions -- so we should keep our eyes open. Or well, people who that actually matters for should. [Well he must be doing all right if he can still make his own blind guy jokes.

He sounds tired though.]

You and me both. We can start by making sure the people we know here are safe and accounted for, and that no one is left defenseless. There's strength in numbers.

[He does sound tired. She doesn't know him enough to say that he looks tired too, but anyone would look tired after all this.]

I feel like I can actually do something here. Make a difference.

[Like her father never wanted her to. He would have locked her up in the house if she hadn't been so headstrong. It would never have worked.]

I'm just not sure where to start.

What're your skills? Everyone has things they're good at, things they can do.

The clinic will need supplies. I know a kid who mentioned a whole list.

[A cant of his head to the side as he considers.]

But start with your friends here too. Make sure they're okay. Make sure you're okay.

I can scavenge, if I need to. Know how to use a few different weapons, and a bit about farming. I don't know how much of that will be that useful...

[But she's young, and she can pick up new skills if she has to.

It's probably a good thing he can't see the way she grimaces when he mentions looking out for her friends. Looking out for R is a complication all on its own.]
