[For once Matt has the video on. It's no use to him, but he wants his face to be seen this time, because this is serious. And he's furious.]

I'm going to guess most of us read the post that the ones who call themselves the Null posted. If you didn't, it's because you're on their list. The list of targets they've asked us to kill in exchange for the location of the god killer. I'm not the first to post about it either, but the louder the signal, the less chance it can be missed or ignored.

And it needs to be known.

I'm no fan of the "gods" who brought us here. I'm no fan of these null either. But I refuse to stand by while people are used as pawns and killed. This is their game, not ours.

So... out of curiosity, do you know how you got yourself on the Null's radar in the first place?

[George will be thrilled. she's always felt helpless compared to everyone else around here, it's part of why she's so dedicated to helping at the clinic. giving her some means of self-defense will do wonders for her sense of self]

That's a pretty low threshold if you get put on a hit list for hurting their feelings.

[Matt sighs. Great. Capricious killers. That's the worst kind, if ego and whim wind up involved.]

But, I have a question. D'you think I should keep working at the clinic now that I have a target on my back? 'Cause I love it there, but I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me.

You shouldn't stop helping people. That list is getting longer every minute, and we can't afford to sequester people on it when they could be of help to others.

[That and well,] You know, someone else asked me the same question. I'm looking to find some people who'd be willing to keep guard. Clinic is important. It could wind up even more important. And so are the people who work there.

Fuck, at the rate they're going, it's gonna be easier to list out the people the Null don't want dead. And maybe that's a good thing? Show 'em we're not a bunch of assholes who'll turn on each other for no good reason.

Okay. If the shit hits the fan, I know that Kate and Will at least can kick ass. Of course, they're on their list, too.

It may well be, yeah. And those people... some of them are who we might need to look out for.

[That said.] But we need to not turn it into a witch hunt, either. Some people might be keeping their heads down or playing along to find out more.

[And playing along is fine as long as one doesn't play along too far. No killing.]

I've spoken to both, I think. Will had similar concerns to you. [BOTH SUCH GOOD KIDS, WILL AND GEORGE. They must be protected.]

Maybe? I still don't know a lot of people around here, and I've been here almost five months. But a lot of people I do know and care for are on the list already.

Like a double-agent thing? Smart. Potentially suicidal, but smart.

I'm not surprised. He's a good guy. [GEORGE WOULD RATHER KICK THE ASS OF ANY WHO COME FOR HER, but Will is good and must be protected]

Yeah, definitely dangerous. But it could also be tremendously useful, if they can manage it.

[A faint smile in agreement. Will seems like a good guy. George seems like a good girl.]

That's a pretty big if. We already know the Null are touchy as fuck. But if they manage it . . . yeah. That would be really fucking useful.

[A pause here.] Has anyone ever met these Null in person?

I don't think so? They've stayed on the network as far as I know. However, I do know that Fear keeps moving this place to keep us away from the Null.

What do we know about the Null? Do they even have a physical presence?

[Matt has too many questions about the Null. He does't know enough about them to understand what exactly they're up against, and that isn't good. Not even remotely ideal.]

Not so far as I know, but were you here for when Rage posted about their investigation? Apparently, they're making robots, like Terminators.

And I know that one time, they got close enough that Fear wasn't able to move the whole city in time to avoid them, but I don't know if the Null themselves actually showed up on either side.

[George doesn't know much about them, either. she was here for their first two posts to the network, but other than that, all she knows is what she's heard from others]

I do remember that.

[Matt frowns as he thinks back to the conversation.]

Do you think that's true, George? That the reason the city moves is because of these Null, that we actually do move?

[It's a good story, right? Do they have evidence?]

Okay, good.

Ehhh, it's hard to tell. You'd think that if we were switching spots on a regular basis, we'd be able to detect something, right? Even if it's just a few seconds of vertigo or dizziness or something just being fucked up.

[George wouldn't know. she'd actually tried to steer clear of the gods, other than their network posts]

If it were a physical movement, I think I would be able to sense it.

[His proprioception is top notch.]

But if it's less physical movement and more... who knows. Some technology that teleports instantaneously. I don't know. I never planned to live in a science fiction novel.

It could be that? I mean, they say that the gods' forms aren't really them at all, that they're really just balls of energy. Who knows what balls of energy can do?

Uh. Long story. I guess I'm not in the business of keeping secrets here anymore. I may be blind, but my other senses make up for it, in a way that most human beings wouldn't be capable of. If we were moving, I'm confident I'd know.

[It'd throw off his everything, he thinks.]

...that is beyond my pay grade honestly. But I guess that doesn't matter much.

Oh, like your hearing and sense of smell and--I guess--feeling of movement and stuff like that, right?

[George thinks it would be pretty weird if they were physically moving the town, too. eventually, they'd run out of places to move it]
