[Like ... probably everyone here, Nick's pretty stressed out about the Null's recent network broadcast and extremely Tired in general, so. She's dipped into her very small supply of cigarettes and is smoking one when she turns on the feed.]

OK, if y'all are done talking about killing each other, or trying to kill each other, or actually killing each other - [she pauses to give the camera an exaggerated roll of her eyes while exhaling a small cloud of smoke] - I got a question.

[She pauses again to tap the ash off the end of her cigarette into a chipped mug she's repurposed into a makeshift ashtray, then turns back to the camera.]

When I first got back this last time, someone said there'd been talk about rebuilding what's left of Delight's bar into a café. Is anyone actually doing anything about that? 'Cause I dunno about y'all, but I could use something to do that isn't sitting around and waiting to get murdered.

Cool. You know anything about construction? 'Cause I sure don't.

You think there's an age limit on espresso?

[Kid, you are asking all the right questions. Nick gives him a wry half-smile.]

Not if I'm the one serving. I can tell you from personal experience that the old wives' tale about caffeine stunting your growth is complete bullshit.

[She started drinking coffee at age fourteen and stands just shy of six feet tall, so.]

As uh, the person in charge of the Delight-sponsored coffee cart at the moment, I can assure you that if you want coffee you've got it.

[Chris was drinking alcohol at Richie's age, so he's certainly not going to refuse to give the kid some coffee.]

Oh a cafe! How wonderful. Hope is helping me to start a bakery, I would very very happy if the bakery could help your cafe.

Awesome! I promise to use this power for the greater good.

[ And by the greater good he means staying up all night just because he can and tormenting Eddie. ]

What about sugar? As much as we want?

Coffee comes with whipped cream, right? I don't really pay attention to what my parents drink.

We grab a hammer and some nails and start putting things back together. We're girls, we can handle anything that gets thrown our way.

Whoa, dude, slow your roll. [She holds up her hand, palm to the camera, the signal for stop.] It ain't my café. I mean, I've been a barista for practically ever, so I can definitely work there, but we have to actually get it built first.

[And that's a lot more responsibility than Nick imagined taking on when she decided to make this broadcast.]

You know anything about construction?

[OK, maybe that's a little too much enthusiasm. Nick rubs the hand not occupied with the cigarette across her forehead.]

Have you, uh, seen what's left of Delight's bar?

... no?

[At least she's honest.]

I'm guessing it's not much.

[Ritchie, how are you so adorable. Nick laughs, grinning wider.]

I ain't your mom, kid. As long as you're not trying to get your hands on booze yet, I say you can do whatever you want. You're stuck here, after all. Might as well enjoy what you can.

[Delmar is taken aback. This person certainly managed to read a lot more into his comment than he had intended to be there.

His expression falters. ]

[After all, 'your' here is a matter of innocent conversational grammar in the same way 'your school' doesn't imply that you own the school, only that you are involved with it.

Some idiot a while back thought it would be a good idea to blow the place up. So yeah, it's fuckin' trashed.

[She pauses, takes another inhale off her cigarette, slowly blows out the smoke.]

I dunno, maybe at this point it'd be better if we just tried to fix up another building that isn't so wrecked.

Well - yeah, obviously. People like having scones and shit to go with their coffee. I'm just sayin', I don't wanna take over the joint. Someone else was talking about doing this to start, I just don't know who.

Oh I see.

[Sort of. He's not sure that he actually does. This sounds strangely similar to what Harlan said about Seel trying to take over his own project with the bakery and Delmar hadn't really understood that at the time either]

Was any of the building ever started?

Booze? That stuff is gross anyway. [ For now. He'll be drinking a lot of it when he's older, but now it's just shit his dad drinks and then gets weird. ]

What do we gotta pay for it?

[Chris loves the stupid accent, and follows it up with a surely offensive attempt at a French one.]

Well uh, it can, but we don't really have much of it. On the other hand, we do have some creamer and a package of marshmallows around somewhere, so if you want ridiculously sweet coffee that can totally be accomplished.

Not much into getting murdered are you? I'm not at all sure why you wouldn't want to paint a giant target on your back saying, shoot me!

[ he coughed ]

But I do get your point, but I have to ask. Why not just build it back into a bar that also serves coffee and some donuts? Or were you just hoping for a place to drink some coffee and have a few poetry slams?

[ Dean's not really into poetry so, he needs a few more incentives then just coffee and donuts... Oh, who is he kidding. He's always up for coffee and food. Just don't expect him to design anything. All he's good for is using a hammer. ]

Might be less work that way-- and safer all-around. We'd get it up and running sooner, too, if we weren't starting with total rubble.

[Good plan. That's why Nick's doing this, after all - something to do that isn't thinking about all this Null bullshit.]

[Nick rolls her eyes, but she's smiling as she does so. If there's anything she's learned from her life - especially her time here in Hadriel - it's that you gotta find the humor in this kind of bullshit, or you go crazy.]

Look, dude, I'm harder to murder than most people, but that doesn't mean I'm keen on having anyone try it anytime soon. The assholes running this place put us through enough shit, it just seems real fuckin' stupid to turn on ourselves like this just 'cause our new robot overlords said so.

I've seen enough poetry slams to know they're a bad idea. Anyway, how I heard it, we already got another bar. I guess there's nothin' that says we can't have two ...

[She doesn't know much about Raidou yet, and she's not sure Akira has much experience with any kind of construction, but...]

Akira is pretty much amazing at whatever he does. I bet he'd love to help, at least!

Trust me, more than one bar ain't a bad idea. Sometimes you want a classy place and sometimes you want a place where you can throw a few punches and drink and make up when you're done.

I guess the cafe ain't a bad idea though. If you time things just right, we could go straight from the bar to the cafe and catch some breakfast. That certainly does sound like a better idea then trying to kill each other.

[ which he ain't too fond of, honestly. He hasn't quite reached the point just yet where killing just seems like every day business. Even if the guys he is killing are demon scum. ]

There is actually at least one other. Seel helped me construct the firehouse and the pump house by the lake. But I'd be happy to help. There was some discussion of rebuilding, at least half a year ago. But it didn't happen. People decided to build the Speakeasy in another location. But I live near the ruins of Delight's Bar, and I used to be a regular, so I miss the place. Has anybody asked Delight what she thinks?

Someone should probably learn how to make sugar. Farm sugar? Can you farm sugar? How do you even make marshmallows? Is there a factory?

[ Hang on, sidetracked for just a moment.... ]

Uh, I think you can farm sugar; I'm pretty sure that you get it from sugarcane somehow, and sugarcane's a plant. And I think marshmallow's a plant too, but the kind of marshmallows you buy in the store aren't actually the plant-marshmallows, they're just like... Sugar and gelatin or something?

[This is an important thing to be sidetracked by.]

Uh, probably Hope. He's the one who does the healing stuff, so he could probably improve your eyesight.

[Chris hadn't honestly thought about it before, since his vision isn't that bad and he doesn't mind his glasses, but he'd guess Hope would be the right one to ask about this.]

I mean, I can't say for sure he can do it, but yeah I'm pretty sure he could. He'd probably ask you to like, inspire hope in a bunch of people first, though.
