[So the fighting may be over, but that doesn't mean everything is going to be immediately fine. Finally having the time to really think about everything that's happened, and for everything to sink in, is going to make the next few days and weeks just as much of a challenge for some here as the last have been, if not more so.

But that is, hopefully, something he can help with, if at least a little. And there are new arrivals as well, who not only had to deal with the end of the invasion but also everything that goes along with suddenly finding themselves in an entirely new world, not to mention the sudden setting change too.

So he's trying to look as composed and calm as possible, which is a bit of a struggle since--like pretty much everyone else--he's exhausted and didn't get out of the whole ordeal with the Null entirely unscathed. Compared to some people he definitely fared better, but there's still a pretty obvious bruise across his cheekbone and around his eye; it's not too serious, but the main problem is that it's also not very helpful in looking as professional and put together as he's trying to appear.

Still, he's doing his best, and he lifts his chin a little and takes a deep breath before speaking.]

If anyone is injured, or just in need of somewhere safe to rest, the hot springs and the fire station are both serving as temporary locations for the clinic. Additionally, considering the seriousness and extent of everything that's happened in the last few weeks as well as the arrival of new people, it's worth reiterating that I'm a psychologist and so if anyone wants to talk, whether about recent events or otherwise, I'm available to meet.

[A short pause.]

I'm... Not exactly sure where, since my office doesn't exist anymore, and I probably should've thought about this before making this announcement...

[That would've been good planning, if he weren't so tired and scattered, but okay, refocus--]

But that can be decided on an individual basis. Additionally, if you'd like to respond privately, you can do so.

[And he includes a brief explanation of how to make a conversation private. With all of that out of the way, he'll put a filter on the post himself and add another message.]

I haven't been on a planet with two suns ever, so yeah. Definitely different.

[But actually really awesome aside from the practical issues. It's one of those things that's so outlandish that it hasn't sunk in yet that it's real.]

I have. It's a bitch trying to sleep, but it's nice. Seeing the sky and everything.

I used to sleep during the day all the time in college, so I'm not too worried about that part. The sky's definitely worth it.

[That earns an amused look, though he'll clarify before answering--]

The sleeping part. Believe me, I get the appeal of seeing the sky.

I thought so. The answer's pretty boring, though; I work better at night, so I did most of my papers and homework then.

[And so sleeping happened in the daytime, at least when he didn't have classes.]

I'm guessing you studied psychology or something?

How did you guess?

[He asks it dryly, but still clearly amused.]

All of my degrees are psychology-related, yes.

[Ephemera raises an eyebrow.]

You've got more than one?

[Huh.]

You were totally a nerd.

At least they're not math or something. There would be no coming back from that level of nerd.

[His voice is teasing.]

Got me there. You're still a bigger nerd than CT. He did sociology.

One or two, yeah, but it depends on the field. I have a lot of degrees for someone at the FBI, but for the lab where Dr. Brennan works I'm pretty much on par with everyone else.

[Hodgins and Brennan are ridiculous, honestly. No one needs three doctorates.

He gives a small laugh and a look for fake disgust, clearly joking when he responds to that last part.]

Ew, sociology, that's almost as bad as anthropology.

Huh.

[Despite himself, Ephemera is impressed. That's a lot of work.]

He'd totally kick your ass for that.

[Ephemera grins just a little. Talking about CT is rough, still, but it doesn't hurt as much as it used to.]

What's anthropology?

I'm sure he probably would.

[It's definitely good that Ephemera can talk about CT without it being so crushing; that's a big first step.]

Anthropology is what Dr. Brennan studies; it's the history and culture of humans overall, but it's a really broad field. Cultural anthropology is really similar to sociology, in that it's studying how people interact in groups, but on a large scale; other parts, including forensic anthropology, are things like human evolution and physiology, then there's linguistic anthropology which studies language, and I'm sure a bunch of others I'm forgetting.

[Brennan would probably be jumping in here to correct him by now if this were public, but he did his best.]

[More than anything, he wishes CT were here. The captain'd like talking about college stuff with somebody else.

Ephemera blinks. Refocuses.]

That's a lot of stuff. But it sounds kinda like what CT talked about. How societies work. Shit like that.

Yeah, they're very related fields, and so is psychology. They're just on different levels; psychology is individuals, sociology is groups, and anthropology is entire cultures.

[As much as he'll make fun of sociology or anthropology, it's in good fun; the fields are all incredibly important, and all affect each other.]

That makes sense.

[Ephemera grins just a little.]

He would've liked you. CT, I mean. He wanted to be a teacher.

[Lance smiles a little at that too.]

Any idea what age he wanted to teach?

Middle school, I think? He actually liked kids.

Wow, brave. That's a scary age.

[Lance knows he was a nightmare at that age himself; he can't imagine trying to teach a group of kids like that.]

[Ephemera snorts. He spent more time in detention than out of it.]

No shit. But that was CT. He was--hnn. He was the only captain I met who didn't have to yell to get shit done. And he was good with kids. Whenever we had a base planet-side there'd always be some hanging around. He'd make friends with 'em like that.

From that, and what you've told me of CT before, I imagine he accomplished that by treating others--whether kids, or those under his command--like people equal to him, rather than lesser. That goes a long way.

[And the effect can be very subtle, but showing even the baseline of respect to those around you does a lot for how they respond in turn.]

Yeah.

[Ephemera shakes his head a little. He misses CT. More than anything, he misses the captain before he was CT. Back when his name had been Hunter. But there's no point in thinking about that, wanting things that can't be.]

Think he would've liked you. This place, maybe not.

I miss him a lot.

I'm not sure anyone likes this place.

[It's a faint joke, to lighten the mood a little, before he offers a serious response to Ephemera's last comment.]

I wish I could tell you that'll change.

[But really, it doesn't. It just changes forms, sometimes, whether for better or worse.]
