Just how many here have military experience? After the shambolic events prior, I do wonder if it's merely lack of experience than anything else.

The fact a lot are treating this as a "one-off" is going to be a problem. Do you really believe that everyone will just move past this as if it never happened? It should remind you of what you are; prisoners.

Not many, by the sounds of it. [ as it stands, his own experience might be stretching it a little by Hux's reckoning but even then he is better prepared than many of the people he's spoken to. ]

I have taught some how to defend themselves. [Those willing, at least.] Hadriel isn't exactly the sort of environment where you can predict what will happen next.

Of course no such thoughts nor efforts exist in over two years of the Door dragging people here. Evidently you have assessed all that other residents have expressed and offered with close attention. You are the first with a martial background. You are the first to suggest any such training or defence, let alone implement it.

Again, more assumptions. I asked if anyone did have experience, the very first thing I wrote. I don't believe for one second that the laws of probability would make it so I was the only one, and if there had been no counter attack at all then no-one would be here to talk about it, would they? Or do you truly believe I am so ignorant to think there's no guard at all here? It certainly sounds like it.

What I was asking, since it seems you missed the purpose, was if that was the best that you have got in this place. Try not to fool yourself into thinking that this victory was a great one, the results speak for themselves.

I never mentioned the Empire, the Empire is not going to be replicated here.

Without understanding what exists here, what lead to the battle, each party's involvement, respective strengths, and how the battle unfolded, you can only adjudge it poorly. Why, then, should anyone suffer your corrections?

When to lose was to be annihilated our survival and Hope's survival is a victory. There is no reason to impute further conditions upon it whilst we recover.

[Lance has some familiarity with Hux, or at least the Hux that was here previously, so he's neither too thrilled to see he's back--whether or not he remembers, which he presumes he doesn't by the questions--or quick to reply to this post. He considers not doing so at all, actually, but it seems worthwhile. Talking to Hux was how he'd found out half the stuff he'd found out about the whole thing with Maketh, after all.]

There are several with military experience, but the population here is not an army and trying to treat it like one is not effective.

What gives you the impression that those here presume that recent issues are going to be a one time occurrence?

I probably don't have to say much about myself. But despite what I gather are out differences, I think I have to agree with you. We should be prepared in the event something like this happens again. We can't dismiss it after what just happened.

I doubt it will be easy, though...there are so many different opinions and personalities and backgrounds. And I don't believe that anything like the Empire did would go over very well.

I have some, and I can see what you mean, although with this not being an army before, nothing will be easy with them. I've got experience with trying to get a group of ragtag survivors organized, and it was definitely a fight. My husband and I managed, but we had the war going on all around us constantly, and there was no choice. I don't think we have much of one here, but I'm not sure everyone will want to become an army.
