I think I need to change my routine. I find it far too easy to fall into a rut. (And a change will stop him from worrying too much about his uncle.) How far has anyone explored? Is there any point to it?

There were at least two announced expeditions after we arrived, not counting your uncles'.

[His voice is flat and tired; it's obvious to those in the know where he's been for the past few hours.]

I asked Makalaure to bring along some materials for map-making, but I don't know whether the others thought to do the same.

[ Curufin hears that beloved voice and smiles. He's working on the irrigation system again, digging with great energy, determined to get the Orchard watered and likewise, the other gardens people have requested ditches for. He sets his shovel in the earth and whips off his bandana, wiping his forehead and shoving his braids back behind his ears. ]

You are kind to offer, my son. [ So like sensitive Cel to think of this. Fierce warrior and gentle heart! ] I am not sure. . . but it would be good if Yukari were willing to talk to you, I think.

(He cannot stop himself from smiling - even now - at the mere sound of his father's voice. He moves away from the fires and holds his communicator close.)

I would like to speak to him. I can understand if he would not be comfortable with a formal meeting. We could just talk like this.

[ And Curufin cannot stop his face lighting up when Cel meets his eyes with that silver gaze, that is so tender and so intelligent. ]

I sincerely hope that he will respond.

He has a very difficult time seeing himself as being worth anybody's effort. And he covers that up with anger, which confuses most people. But maybe you wouldn't be deflected by that?

Anger does not frighten me. (Anger is one of the more complicated emotions. It can stem from so many other emotions and Celebrimbor does not judge it as harshly as others might.)

He can yell and curse; I will not be moved.

True. You are not easily frightened. [ Celebrimbor has an amazing capacity to understand the human spirit. The Elvish spirit particularly. It is one of the things that makes him so beautiful. Truth to tell, his dad has always been in awe of him because of this. ]

Neither are you! (He sounds bashful at the praise. Some might take pleasure in being adored, but Celebrimbor does not expect it. When it is given, therefore, he does not quite know what to do with it.)

[ A small laugh. ] That is so. We have that in common. [ But Cel is adored by his father, truly and absolutely, whatever he decides to do with it. ]

[ Softly. ] Yes. He needs that very much. I hope every day that what I can give is enough. And I am grateful to you for caring as well.

Yukari carries a great burden of pain and confusion. . . but he also has his strength and sweetness -- and both of those are very great.

[Oh, no. No no no no no. Yukari still hasn't warmed up to the idea of talking to Celebrimbor yet. Although he did assume it was inevitable at some point, he'd still been lying low from the other Elf.

And he's definitely not up to voice, let alone his usual video, when he gets this. Sorry Celebrimbor, you get text. At least he's responding at all?

Have I angered you? (He isn't sure how, but if he has, he wants to make it right.) I hate what happened to you. It must have been frightening...

I have experienced death too. Exacting justice won't undo what was done, but it might give you some peace of mind.

..... I broke that promise, you know. You only asked one thing of me, and I broke it wittingly. I knew it would hurt him, and I chose to do it anyway. You can't tell me that you aren't the slightest bit furious.

[He still isn't even sure how Curufin came to forgive him, or Maglor. Or why no one wants to yell at him. Things that will never stop being weird. And it proves very difficult for Yukari not to resist against it.]

I don't understand why you all are like this. None of it makes sense.

For what reason did you break it? That matters a great deal. As my father has not abandoned you, I would say the reason is sufficient explanation and he does not take offense.

(Oh Yukari, you do not fully know the actions of the Fëanorians.)

My family has no place to judge.

For the very reason that I told him when he left me: to protect him. Do not think it is so clear-cut. I only apologized for hurting him the way I did, but I do not regret my choices otherwise.

I swore myself to a new King, and told him I would no longer kill the innocent, in order to prevent myself from doing so again. But that does not mean I would not do it again if I were left to my own devices. And I do not think he would have taken me back if I had not met at least some substandard of those circumstances.

Your family has plenty of room to judge. I'm certainly not offended if any of you would think lesser of me.

Once I have seen to Maglor, would you care to go exploring with me?

My might is great enough to protect those left that I love. I cannot ask for more. (Vilya is one of the few pieces of jewelry that will absolutely begin to fade in power if it is worn by someone cruel.)
