Okay. So. Maybe this is an obvious question and I missed the memo on it, but...

We have a lot of competent adults around, yeah? Fighters, planners, all that.

Why hasn't there been a plan to go on the offensive against the evil robots?

Having good defenses is important, don't get me wrong. We're doing pretty damn good on that front all things considered.

Maybe I'm just not used to being the one doing the waiting at camp.

So... second question. How do you guys deal with the waiting?

There isn't exactly a climbing wall with Real Lava Action here to kill time on, let alone SAT's and homework to battle with.

We don't have access to the Null at their home. They invaded ours and Fear went to a lot of trouble to keep us away from them.

Now that no one's betraying our position to them, probably much longer than before.

I don't doubt that there's probably more trouble brewing, there always is. But it's difficult to focus on that when there's always some kind of chaotic bullshit going on. If it's not survival, it's whatever this childhood thing is right now.

Chaos is always going to happen no matter where you are.

I just don't see how things can get better if they stay the way they are.

There's only so much even the most intelligent strategist can cope with at once. Survival, mental manipulation, a dust storm, and planning for the next assault? Something has to go on the shelf for now, and it sure won't be survival.

Nobody can do everything alone, but last I checked there's a whole city full of people here with a whole bunch of different skills.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I think we would need the gods' cooperation to find the Null's base. And they do seem very intent on their current plan of action.

Perhaps not. But if even one were inclined to listen, they might be wary of going against the group after Delight. Betrayal has a way of causing the victims to close in on themselves.

True, but there's also the chance that they might be willing to rally together against what caused the betrayal.

They weren't the only ones who were betrayed after all, so were we in a way.

I've been trying for some time to convince the gods that what we need to attack the Null wherever they are, out there in the mighty Void -- destroy their bases, kill them all. The gods keep finding excuses not to even consider the idea. I think it may be partly because they aren't used to thinking in terms of war, only of taking flight from danger. And partly, it may be that they fear that if they grant us that much autonomy, we'll escape from Hadriel permanently.

And I keep telling them that the day will come when they'll have to ask us to be partners in this venture, or we'll all die.

I don't mind the waiting. I've a veteran of six hundred years of war. But I don't think we should be waiting, as I have said. I agree with you that we should go on the offensive.

Makes sense, they don't exactly have a proper War God or Goddess in the pantheon.

Six hundred years sounds like it sucks though, sorry you're stuck in another one.

Depends on the time of year.

Most summers involved helping try to stop the end of the world, or learning how not to get eaten by monsters. The rest of the year was... well, more of that but also school. I was on the swim team.

World's not quite endin' here. Not yet. You could try swimmin', but it's kinda a dud skill when we're half way out in the desert.

Walk the sands, look 'round for supplies, play with my cat. Pretty much what I'd do back home 'cept I don't have to spend so much time lookin' for food and water.

There's a lot of information we still need before we go on the offensive. Much as I wish we could, we're also still recovering from the invasion in a lot of ways. We barely made it through that by the skin of our teeth so... Going offensive right now is probably a bad idea.
