[Lance is clearly back in Hadriel since the video is catching the backdrop of his kitchen, nondescript and standard as always; he really should decorate this place at some point. He's finally done something about his hair though, so although it's still long enough to curl a little it's back under control, if not exactly masterfully styled. He did his best.

But the biggest change after his vacation is that he seems a bit brighter than he has been recently, not as tense and distracted. Things aren't perfect or even really close to truly resolved, but they're better enough that he's making this post.]

Hey, so, I'm back from exploring, and therefore both my actual and metaphorical vacation; this means that if anyone needs any professional advice, or just to talk to someone, I'm available. Especially since the latest event seemed...

['Not great' are the words coming to him, but those aren't particularly professional, so--]

Particularly stressful, to all those involved, for reasons that may be more complicated than usual.

[He also totally stalked all those network posts that happened at the time, and is really glad he missed this event himself. He's keeping in mind the possibility of leaving the city to avoid others in the future if possible, though it's such a simple solution that he's not sure it'll work.]

I'd also like to remind those here, especially new arrivals, that we've recently compiled a list of people willing to teach different skills, and if you'd like to teach something just let me know what. Hopefully we can all stave off boredom and learn something useful at the same time.

[That part addressed, he feels like he should add something else he's been holding off on; it's been awhile, so surely people have noticed by now if they were going to care, but still.]

For anyone unaware, Dr. Brennan disappeared early last month. That means I have her book, if anyone who wanted to read it hasn't had a chance to do so yet.

[Because that's, of course, the biggest issue here. The book.

She seemed to me like the type of person to make the best of whatever situation she found herself in.

[He means that as a compliment]

How was your trip? Anything exciting to report?

She is, and she finds exploring other places and cultures to be fascinating, so being here wasn't as bad as it could've been.

[But she has a husband, and now two children, and Lance knows being away from them was difficult for her.]

It was fine, but no, not really. The novelty of driving around on an alien planet wore off pretty quickly, although I did fill an orb.

So they let kids drive without licenses on this planet. Figures.

[He's chuckling, but its not said with the usual self-enjoyment that tends to come with teasing Lance. More he tries to use it as a gentle prod to lighten the mood, knowing the departure of Brennan cannot be an easy blow, even if theoretically it is better for her.]

Very amusing. You know, counting time here, I'm thirty.

[Which is really strange to think about and doesn't feel real, but he'll totally use it to his advantage in this situation. It also helps him keep up the shift to a lighter tone.]

And I'm pretty sure that's officially the point when I can no longer be made fun of for being a child.

[There's a groan as Lance actually doing the math makes it impossible to avoid the subject of his own age]

God I must be on my way to being 62 by now.

[He lets out a long slow breath]

Actually. If you stop and think about it, you are older than a good lot of the people here. The door seems to have a preference for the young.

Wow, you're really ancient.

[He manages to say it with some fake wonder, just to add insult to injury.]

Yeah, it's kind of weird, actually. I'm used to everyone being older than me.

[But a lot of them here are younger, with some older, but very few right around his own age. Though that last part is pretty normal for him, at least.]

[He probably deserved that. Probably. ~~Absolutely~~.]

You better appreciate me while I'm still here. I'll be on death's door any minute there, Whippersnapper.

[Rosen may or may not have tried to do the 'grizzled old prospector' voice there but he's admittedly not good at it]

Agreed. It's the lack of representatives from the 30-50 range that I find unnerving.

[Only a handful of exceptions that Rosen can think of, Lance being one of them if he's now 30.]

Isn't the whole point of your health-consciousness to make it to like, a hundred and twenty?

[Because if eating leaves only gets you to sixty, it sure doesn't seem worth it.]

I wonder if there's a specific reason for it, or if it's just weird coincidence.

You know what? I never really put that much thought into it. I just liked the looks I got when I ate weird things. People tend not to give you too much trouble if they also think of you as 'that guy who eats the weird herbs'

[A pause]

Clearly ageism.

You know, I'm sure there's a very interesting psychological explanation for that.

[He's teasing, of course.]

Clearly. Maybe the idea of the Door liking chaos is true; younger people do tend to be a little more unpredictable.

Is that so? [a show of feigning ignorance] And what would your diagnosis be, Dr. Sweets?

So then they brought us select old geezers here to balance out the youth demographic?

You don't want me to answer that.

Do you feel like you're balancing them?

[His answer to that is an amused huff. It's the truth though, he'd rather not go down that rabbit hole of what's wrong with him right now.]

Honest answer? I think you are more successful at that than I am.

Good, that means I'm getting better at acting.

[He's so not actually calm enough to counterbalance the people here, especially since many of them are so ridiculously far in the chaotic direction.]

I don't know if I would call it 'interesting' since it's pretty mundane, but...

Is it? or is it just mundane to you because you are the one living with it?

It's extra mundane because I'm used to it, but no, it really is relatively common and uninteresting.

[His voice is somewhat quieter]

Whatever it is that is common and uninteresting about you you have managed to forge into something far from mundane. To an inspiringly rare degree.

[Lance goes quiet at that himself, and it's for the best this is audio because he's still not great at taking genuine compliments, and so is a little flustered.]

...Thank you.

[Part of him wants to say more. To elaborate on just how impressed he has been with Lance in the time they've known each other. But he also has no idea where to even begin and a lingering fear that to open his mouth would be to dig himself into an uncomfortable emotional hole he would not be mentally equipped to pull himself out of. ]

I do hope you've been eating something other than dorm room food.

I have. My friends keep taking pity on me.

[Which he greatly appreciates, actually. And since Hope has been providing more food to be stocked in the stores again, that's also made things a lot easier; sure, he's not exactly leading a super healthy lifestyle at the moment, but it's a little better than dorm food.]
