There's a creature here who killed my friend, and injured my brother. I don't know what it calls itself, but my friend describes a woman with eyes as black as pitch.

[ His eyes are far too bright to be human, a feral fire lit behind them ]

Have a care for yourselves, for it has, apparently, killed at least once and tried to do so more than that.

[ And then almost absently ]

Findekano, my king, I ask your blessing on my hunt.

[ And you know, permission to torture and play with his prey but he won't say that aloud ]

[ Ouch! Curufin feels the blast of power coming through the bond. That inexorable order. Given by the elder to the younger, it is not meant to be refused. Still, he can't resist teasing a little. ]

Fourteen days in bed! I am SO BORED. [ He flings an overly dramatic forearm to his forehead, in a gesture of suffering. ]

Heh. I wouldn't mind if Yukari came and sat on me. [ Scans the log to see who is saying what. ] But I see you've asked him to go with you. I approve. Just tell him not to get himself killed. And I see that others are volunteering, and that's good! Don't any of you get yourselves killed.

[ Softly. ] Oh, Kano. Be safe.

I know you do.

[ he gentles ]

But you aren't well yet, Curvo. I'll be fine. Nelyo will be with me. We will see it pay for what it did to you.

[ Sigh. He does so want to go along and kill things. ]

Yes, I know.

[ He gazes into Maglor's silvery eyes, and thinks of how much he loves this brother. ]

You're right, of course. I'm not ready to fight again, not yet. If I came along, I'd be a liability. Remember how we used to decide such things, back in the old days? The well ones got to overrule the injured ones, to make sure nobody fought out of excessive zeal, when he shouldn't.

[ Maglor hums softly, a low, background sound to soothe ]

I remember. So many times we had to overrule you, or Tyelko or Moryo. And I remember after the Dagor Bragollach, when you dosed me to keep me down!

[ Curufin smiles to hear that humming. It reminds him of the old days. ]

I remember too. Tyelko and Moryo and I would practically fight the rest of you, in order to get back to the battlefield! We were idiots. [ Chuckle. ]

. . . Oh, you remember that, too! Yes, we resorted to asking the fearsome healer to give us a painkilling/sleeping potion that would knock you out for the count. We didn't exactly tell you truthfully what it was, until days later, when you woke up. [ Rolls his eyes and looks innocent. ]

I was unconscious for three days Curvo.

[ Maglor says dryly ]

It's rather hard to forget. But you were rather idiotic, yes.

Yes, that was the point. [ Smile. ] Not that you saw it our way when you woke up. [ Oooh, the fireworks in the camp that day! ]

Of course we were idiotic. It was our JOB to be idiots.

So, you are going to pour fire and brimstone on that Caedra person. . . whatever the hell she is. . . or hack her up with your swords. You watch she doesn't summon any more demons to attack your backs.

[ In fairness, those three days saw the loss of most of Maglor's calvary in one way or another, and unconscious was the only way they would have been able to drag him from the Gap, so Maglor understands why. He just doesn't have to like it. ]

Ah, really? [ He says dryly ] I don't recall 'looking after idiots' being in the terms when I had brothers. [ He teases and as he nods the smile drops ]

We will be careful. I don't think it is particularly strong - necromancer types tend not to be, without their summons. Nelyo and I will be alright, Curvo. I promise.

[ No disagreement on that from Curufin! ]

You're wrong about that. It says right here in the Younger Brothers Contract that we promise to be idiots on all occasions, but especially if there sharp tools or weapons involved. [ He unfolds an imaginary document, shakes it out crisply, and scrutinizes it. Then he holds it up to Maglor's gaze, with a grin. ] Check it out, you'll see all of our monikers: Tyelko, Moryo, Curvo, Pityo and Telvo. [ Wait, where's Kano's?? Maybe he wasn't dumb enough to sign? ]

[ But about this necromancer. . . ] Let's hope we killed ALL her demons, so that she doesn't have any more to summon. Good luck, Kano, and good luck to Nelyo, and to Yukari if he is going as well. I expect you will prevail. [ He'd clasp his brother's hands if this were in person, but since it is not, the handclasp is in his loving eyes instead. ]

[ SO DRY ]

Strange, I remember no such contract...

[ Maglor smiles at him ]

We will come home to you soon. [ He promises ]

[ Ouch, that dryness! OUCH, OUCH! ]

That's because back in Tirion, we asked a different healer for an amnesiac drug and stuck it in your wine at the contract-signing party. [ Doesn't this sound believable? ]

[ Curufin smiles back. ]

I will be waiting.

[ Maglor is feeling like Curufin is sassing him, somehow~ ]

[ His family. Why does he love them again? ]

I've asked Tyelpe to keep you company.

[ Oh? And why would he think that? XD ]

[ Curufin can't help laughing at the skepticism expressed by those eight little i's. ]

You're assigning Tyelpe to be the thug on the door who will keep me from sneaking out? Kind of like a bouncer, only in reverse. Very clever, Kano. [ Still laughing, though very pleased he'll have Cel's company. ]

[ maybe because he knows his family? ]

By the door? Oh hardly - by your bedside is far more accurate! I mean to keep you in bed.

[ That's the disadvantage of engaging in a battle of wits with Maglor. He knows his family too well! ]

[ Grin. ] Oh, I see. Well, can't fault you for your choice. Tyelpe is awfully had to get past. You'd think not, because he's so gentle and reasonable, but have you ever wrestled him? I have. It's kind of like. . . trying to outwrestle Beren.

I am sure I would not know what that is like.

[ Maglor says dryly ]

But kindly do not give him more cause for concer.

I am sure you would not.

[ Still grinning. ]

I won't give my poor son a hard time. He'll have enough on his plate, having to put up with his grouchy invalid father. I'll find a chess board or something to liven things up. [ HO HO. ]

I am sure he will tell me all about it when we get back. Or you will!

[ he says wryly and sighs ]

Oh Curvo! Stay safe this time. We will see it done.

We both will. [ Smile. ]

I'll be waiting for you and Nelyo and Yukari when you come back victorious. [ Said with a loving look. ]

We won't be long, Curvo.

[ Maglor assures him ]

It's alone and you know how weak sorcerers and necromancers are when they are alone.

I hope it won't take long.

[ But Mags is probably right. Two Fëanorions and one mercenary of Chaos are probably more than sufficient to make short work of one overconfident necromancer. ]

Indeed, we know it well. They rely too heavily upon their servants.

Even so - don't cause trouble while we're gone!

Trouble, me? [ Raised eyebrows. ]
