There's a creature here who killed my friend, and injured my brother. I don't know what it calls itself, but my friend describes a woman with eyes as black as pitch.

[ His eyes are far too bright to be human, a feral fire lit behind them ]

Have a care for yourselves, for it has, apparently, killed at least once and tried to do so more than that.

[ And then almost absently ]

[ And you know, permission to torture and play with his prey but he won't say that aloud ]

[ He blinks and then bows, accepting the favor with grave solemnity ]

[she tries for levity, but it likely falls flat]

You had better. And I will.

[she ties it to his upper right arm, not too tight, but tight it enough that it will be secure]

[ He covers her hand with his own when she finishes and smiles ]

My lady's favor goes with me, how can we fail?

[she blushes when he does so]

You can't. [she forces herself to try for a joke] Or I'll be very cross with you.

And that would never do! [ He teases ]

I promise Margaery. [ He says softly ]

We will return to you. And anyone can tell you, if we Feanorians are good at anything, it is keeping our word.

[and she waits. she nibbles on a piece of fruit, but has no real appetite. she forces herself to stay seated or else she'd be pacing back and forth on the floor. she tries to distract herself with embroidery, but finds herself staring at it, rather than working at it, so she puts it aside.

[ It is much later that he returns, limping a little and bruised, but remarably unscathed, for the most part - Maedhros and he have fought together for centuries - they know very well how to kill demons.

[she jumps up from her chair, a brilliant smile on her face, and rushes over to him, barely restraining herself from throwing her arms around him. as it is, she reaches up to clasp his shoulders]

Maglor. [she smiles back]

[ He smiles tiredly at her ]

We are both home safely, and your enemy is gone, for the time being. Hopefully, we've taught it better than to come for you again.

As promised. [she repeats with a smile]

I cannot thank you enough. I--it means so much to me that you'd do this. [she squeezes his shoulders gently] Come, let us get you inside, you must be exhausted. Are you hungry?

[ He smiles and shakes his head, removing her ribbon to offer back to her ]

I am honored to be able to do this for you. [ He says softly ] But yes, a little.

[she stills his hands] Keep it. I want you to keep it.

I am honored that you've done it. [she says warmly] Then, let's get you inside. I'll cook something for you.

[bythewaves]

[ He smiles, and folds it carefully to stow away ]

Thank you, Margaery - I will keep it safe. And a hot meal would not go amiss, right now!

[her smile widens, pleased to see him do that]

I am grateful. And I'm cooking for you. [she waggles a finger playfully] Don't try to talk me out of it.

[ He laughs softly ]

Who am I to refuse? THank you, Margaery.

Good. There's this recipe for a squash casserole I want to try. That will do you good to fill you up.

[bythewaves]

[ He chuckles, relaxing, the fell fury of his people settling into something quiet again, a cloud coming across the sun. ]

Then I am at your disposal, milady!

[roseofthetyrells]

[she reaches tentatively to take his arm]

Good. I'll cook enough for everyone. And you must tell me about the battle. [she hesitates a moment] Please?

[bythewaves]

[ He smiles at allows it easily ]

Thank you, Margaery. And if you like - there's not much to tell, really. No great battle this - it was shamefully easy to kill without it's minions.

[she gives it a squeeze]

I still want to hear everything. I know that eventually, she'll be back, but I can't help being pleased that she's not here now.
