Video 7 - Sewing Shop

[the video opens on Margaery in the Sewing Shop, dressed of course to impress and show off her work. what is unusual is that she's holding a sword in her lap and that the Shop looks like it's been scrubbed from ceiling to floor and everything in between.

what may also be unusal to those who can notice such things, there have been magical wards placed around the Shop to deter violence and keep certain types of beings out.

Margaery smiles welcomingly at the camera, although those who know her well enough can tell that it's a little forced]

Hello, everyone! The Sewing Shop is open again to attend to your needs. Can you not find what you're looking for in the shops? Or are you just plain sick of wearing the same things day in, day out? Come in and request whatever you need. The only payment I require is a bolt of fabric from Tranquility.

I also give sewing lessons to those who wish to learn.

[That is very smart. Kelson had a hard enough time seeing Annabeth wear pants, much less Margaery. Let him keep his image of her trying to sword train in a dress. He took another breath, because this was definitely an argument he was not going to win and he wished he could ask some of the men he was closed to back home how things worked when they got into fights with their wives? The Duchess of Corwyn for example was not one to back down. She might have been good friends with Margaery.]

[Kelson's going to take that as a small victory, even if it wasn't really one. Women. He didn't understand. Granted, he wasn't that accustomed to talking with women he didn't view as family, choosing instead to wave awkwardly and run away. Help him Margaery.]

[she does do her sword training in a dress. she prefers dresses and wears them almost all the time, so it only makes sense to do her sword training in a dress. that way, she knows how to move without the dress hindering her. and Margaery wouldn't consider this a fight. more like a mild disagreement between friends]

[she'll be entirely willing to help him. she likes him and considers him intelligent, despite his odd resistance to her sword training]

[Yes well Kelson's experience with arguments with women are also rather limited. Like to his mother on whether she wants to execute his champion or pray for his damned soul. Probably in comparison this would be a mild disagreement. It pained him to realize his mother would have agreed with him on this though.

Kelson ends the video and makes his way to her shop, hoping she has at least put the sword down, and idly wondered how she wore it with her dress. He knocked and poked his head in the door.]

Margaery? May I come in?

[Kelson really does have little experience with women who aren't his mother, doesn't he? she imagines that she must seem terribly odd and stubborn, clinging to her martial training as she is. the Margaery of the past would be aghast at the thought of such training, but the Margaery of the present considers it a necessity. and an enjoyable one at that.

she's tied the sword to a belt around her waist]

Yes, of course you may! Please, sit. [she points to a chair in the corner of the room, near a dressing partition]

[Kelson did indeed. Of the few women besides his mother he had regular contact with, one was married to his Champion--a lovely, intelligent woman who spoke her mind, but new when to acquiesce, at least so he figured, the other was the woman he wanted to marry, who had thought him dead and married another, and turned to the church in shame. She would not back down so easily, but she would never romp around with a sword either. In truth, their marriage would have been a poor one, they were both too passionate. He really did have limited contact with women.

He noted the belt keeping the sword in place and inwardly sighed. So much for hope. He went over to the chair she indicated, and sat, wondering when things were going to go downhill.]

[Margaery was trained to speak her mind. to do it as sweetly as possible, but to make it clear what she wanted. even if it was in a roundabout way to make it seem as though the man had had the idea himself in the first place. she's a bit more direct here, but she still tries to seem as pleasing as she'd been in King's Landing.

Margaery goes over to fetch the clothing she's made for him. there are two crimson tunics and two pairs of trousers, one brown and the other black. she brings them back over to him and holds them out]

[Kelson was likewise trained to speak carefully, choose his words wisely, at least when the situation necessitated it. But here, he was still trying to figure out what situations demanded what. He looks over the clothing, Margaery had done a very good job, nothing less than he'd expect from her. He takes them from her.]

Very nice. Thank you. They look exquisitely made.

[He makes a face at her remark, knowing she's trying to lighten the mood, and appreciating it, even if he didn't appreciate the situation.]

Most definitely not.

[Kelson tried to work it out in his head. He wouldn't have a problem with Margaery using magic to defend herself, at all. But using a sword was different. It wasn't that it was any more or less dangerous. Was it the inherent nature of swordplay? He had, after all, never known any women who used one. Or were even permitted.]

You're bound to come up against opponents stronger than you.

[He was referring to men, but probably whatever monsters lurked around as well.]

[determining that was difficult for Margaery, too. she's still finding her way, determining who she can be vulnerable in front of versus who only gets to see the pleasant, pleasing mask]

Only the best for a king.

[she arches an eyebrow playfully at him]

Then I shall continue walking.

[Westeros has no magic, at least none that Margaery is aware of. but to Margaery, a sword is a necessity to keep herself safe here. its presence gives her comfort and its practice makes her feel brave and strong, not small and fearful. that's especially important in the aftermath of her murder. she feels that if she had her sword with her that day, perhaps it would've ended differently]

Most people don't actively challenge others to swordfights in the middle of the street.

[the monsters are no longer a concern now that Hope has driven them out of the city]

[Kelson smiled, a lightness in his eyes at that, despite the disagreement. It wasn't quite flattery, but that ease and love that existed between him and some of his council members. It made him a little homesick. There he didn't need to worry about what facade to show, he knew who he was, and when he was king and when he could just be Kelson.]

Most people don't. But exists here individuals from different cultures and different kingdoms. Who can tell what is normal and acceptable for them?

[Monsters, well, Kelson believed in being prepared, after everything he's been through. Don't count something out because it's unlikely. Especially when Margaery was so potentially vulnerable.]

[Margaery had the love of the nobles and the smallfolk, but she always felt like she had to be looking over one shoulder. Cersei was always there, making her plans to undermine Margaery's authority at any opportunity. she only really showed her true self to her husband on one occasion, when her brother was arrested for "perversion"]

Thus far, I've been fortunate. No one has challenged me to a duel. Even if they do, I'd decline politely and be on my way.

[she believes in being prepared, too, which is why she's getting additional training. or was that not what he had in mind?]

You're asking for trouble, you know. Carrying around a sword.

[He had to keep trying. It just wasn't seemly for a lady to be using such a weapon. If only Richenda were here, perhaps she could help Margaery understand. Then again, perhaps he had foisted enough queens off on the duchess. If only he could make her understand himself, but, he didn't seem to be getting very far. Kelson absently fingered the tunic and breeches she had made for him.]

The mere act of being here is asking for trouble. Can you blame me for preparing myself for it in advance?

[it wasn't seemly in Westeros, either, but she no longer cares about that as much as she used to. she knows that the only one she can count on to come to her rescue is herself and she's behaving accordingly. besides, everyone else here either has special powers or walks around armed to the teeth, why should she be any different?]

Yes, there's a screen over there [she points to it] for privacy.

[She was maddening. Was this what he had to look forward to if he got married? Make that when he got married. How could she not understand?]

No, I would put blame on those around you whose job it is to protect you. It's not a womans place to use a weapon. Even here. You have done admirably creating a haven here, and using skills which had once been delightful hobbies to turn into something that could help others. Now, let us help and protect you in turn.

[Not waiting for a response, Kelson turned and made his way over to the screen, still getting used to the idea that Jatham wasn't here to help him. He missed his squire, he was a good lad. Kelson had trained him well.]

[she could be, yes. especially when she thinks that she has the right of it, which she does. and yes, this is exactly what he has to look forward to when he gets married]

I'm very close with the Elves here and they're all skilled in the sword and the bow. However, I can't be with them every hour of the day, nor can the Guard spare a man to be my personal bodyguard. And many women here use weapons. Sansa does. Have you met her? And if you have, do you think any less of her now that you know that she can wield weapons?

[sorry, but there are no squires here. no handmaidens, either. she's had to learn how to put her own clothing on all by herself as well as how to cook and clean]

[It's excellent he's not going to end up marrying the nun then, they'd end up arguing a lot. Passionately, but neither side would give in. Learn from this, Kelson.

He paused in his changing briefly.]

Sansa, uses a weapon?

[He liked Sansa. Quite a lot. But, well, thats what happens when you meet women over the internet, Kelson. He reached to put on his breeches, relearning how to dress himself. He had put up such a fight when he was first crowned, over the need for it all, but over the years, habits.]

We've talked over the devices, but I haven't met her face to face yet. No, I don't think less of her. Or you. I blame the world we are all trapped in, that it has forced us to put aside roles and traditions and lives we have once held dear, in favor of something we never dreamed of.

[yes, let Margaery be your guide. her grandmother taught her everything a person could ever want to know]

She does. Both the sword and the bow.

[that's what these phones need, some Hadriel equivalent of Tindr. it would make dating so much easier]

We'll have to have you over for supper one night. And at least you're putting your blame in the right place. Hadriel has forced us all to adapt in ways, well, I never thought possible. And if the Null return, you're going to be glad I know how to weild a sword.

[Kelson finished dressing and stepped out in his new attire. He's not quite sure what to think about Sansa using weapons. She always seemed so.....well, not the type. Not that he was quite sure what that type was anymore.]

I would quite like that. I've made contact with the elves too, Curufin and Maglor. They've been very helpful.

[He took a few steps forward, looking as to where she wanted him to be.]

I hope at the very least we both do not regret it, my lady.

[Margaery makes a pleased sound when Kelson steps out in his new clothing. and Margaery would never have guessed that Sansa would use weapons, either, but she could also say the same for herself. and yet, here they both are]

Aren't they? They're true and loyal friends to have.

[she goes over and fusses with the clothes a bit, checking the fit to be sure that all is well]

We'll be fine. You worry too much. [she looks concerned]

[Kelson allows himself the small joy of smiling when she makes that noise, obviously happy. He stands and allows her to check and measure and prod as she ensures everything is the correct fit. Kelson has no doubt, her work is good.]

They have been very helpful, Curufin especially. And isn't that my job, to worry about issues and try and come up with solutions?

[Kelson didn't worry as much when Morgan was with him. He missed the older man terribly, he missed his advice and his comforting presence and experience. He missed Morgan worrying so he didn't have too. Thank goodness Kelson didn't know the amount of grey hairs he gave the man.]

[anything that brings happiness is precious to her, given her experiences over the past month. and properly fitting clothes make her happy, especially when it's been made for a friend]

As a king, yes. That's your job. Unfortunately, we're a king and a queen without our countries here.

[Margaery misses her grandmother. her grandmother could solve or settle anything. she misses her wisdom and guidance]

Does that really matter? We don't stop being who we are. I took vows when I was crowned king and when I was knighted and I don't believe that simply changing locations voids that. Did you not have to do something similar? You are still a queen.

[If only her grandmother and his champion were here, they could listen to both their guidance. Alas, they were alone, and they only had their teachings and memories to rely on. It was time to fly on their own.]

I am, but I'm dead in my own world. My husband, the king, took his own life after finding out about my death.

The vows I took as queen also involved protecting my people. While I'm here, these are my people.

[if her grandmother was here, she'd likely despair at Margaery's sword training, but know that there was nothing she could do to stand in her way]

[Then Kelson and her grandmother had something in common. Kelson was despairing too but at the moment he wasn't sure what else to do about it. It wasn't like he could forbid her.]

What happens when we finally go home then?What will happen to you? You can't go back.

[Kelson lowered his eyes for a moment]

I'm sorry about your husband.

[she'd listen to her grandmother's concerns just as she's listening to Kelson's, but she feels that the decision is ultimately in her hands]

I'm going to Matt's world to join him there.

[she also lowers her eyes. Tommen was a bit spineless, but he was also kind]

He wasn't the best husband or the best king, but. . . he was kind.

[That was unfortunately a hallmark of a strong willed, intelligent woman and something Kelson was going to have to learn and deal with.]

Good. I'm glad you have a plan then.

Kindness counts for a lot, although I fear if it is not tempered with something stronger the kingdom and the crown suffer. I am sorry he was not the best husband to you.

[Kelson wondered how true this was for Tommen. Those who cannot defend their crown do not deserve to keep it. From the sounds of it, that summed up Tommen well. And one of Kelson's past Haldane King's, Alroy. He suspected Alroy and Tommen were very similar.]
