Eleven, I made pulled Varren and corn bread-would you like some? I'm having some people over for dinner, so you could come over as well or I could just send you some later?

That sounds delicious! I haven't had meat since the festival. What time should I come over?

Tomorrow evening. Pretty sure it was a varren I took down; the meat's edible but takes awhile to actually tenderize.

Do you have a roommate or anything? Call it cliche but I can't just cook for one or two people.

Best I could describe-imagine a dog, covered in scales, with serious fangs and ridges on their backs. Tricky as hell to hunt down.

I've actually met Daenerys, when the gods decided send us food from home. We had an interesting talk about military food (or chow as it's usually called).

Well, I was taught to always be polite unless being rude has a purpose.

Agreed, though for me it was more trying to be civil. Doesn't always work of course, but rudeness is less tolerated in officers as it is for enlisted.

I just sent a message to this girl I sometimes check on. She's only around 11-12 and very shy around strangers, so I don't think she'll accept it, but made it all the same.

Really? You'd think the higher you climb, the more leeway would be given.

This place has far too many children for the likes of the goings on here.

Maybe for the male officers. For women, anything less than professional will be seen as a slight.

Of course, there are exceptions-cursing and vulgar language are just like any other weapons if carefully used.

It's like a bad fairy tale; the gods want strong emotions, I imagine kids are a prime source for them. Lord knew I was aggressive myself growing up.

I used it once, but it wasn't enough to get the danger we were in through to the High Sparrow.

I suppose they are. I was raised to be the perfect lady.

Yes, but women have only been allowed to become military officers in the past fifty or so years, in the two hundred years that we have had an organized military. So female personal, especially those in ranking positions, are always put under extra scrutiny.

I was sent to charm school when I was around..twelve-thirteen years old for that reason. They had me repeat the term when I punched another girl in the nose because she called me a freak and accused me of being a lesbian.

One would think that men would grow accustomed to women in positions of power in fifty years. What do you think is taking them so long?

A lesbian is a woman who's sexually attracted to other women. The girl and I apparently had a crush on the same guy and since I was already into sports more than fashion and make up, she thought she had an easy way to get me out of the picture.

I confronted her about it when word reached me. She tried to deny, and got a bloody nose for her trouble.

Ohhh. We have those in Westeros, too, but we don't have a name for them. It was silly of her to use your interest in sports against you. Brienne of Tarth was the least ladylike lady I've ever known, but that didn't stop her from falling in love with my husband.

It's right that you stood up for yourself.

In hindsight, it wasn't the most mature of responses. Like mentioned earlier, I had to repeat the term, and make a formal apology to the girl, but I was just a kid-kids do stupid things.

You weren't jealous? Or did she fall in love, but simply refused to act on it?

Oh, I know. When I was growing up, the rivalry amongst my cousins and myself was intense. Who was the prettiest, who was going to make the best match, things of that nature.

It didn't really matter for either Brienne or I. My husband was too in love with my brother to give either one of us a second glance.

I was a terror growing up, I'll admit that now. With my cousins, I was taller then all of them so I got a lot of 'giant' nicknames-add into that a temper and, well when I was a girl, my uncle gave in and taught me how to box. He figured, better a punching bag then a person.


You must be pretty close, to just want to see your brother happy even if he's in love with your husband.

I think that's something of Brienne of Tarth's story as well. She towers over me. Towers over most men, in fact. Perhaps her father decided that as she'd never be a "proper" lady, best she turn her energies into other pursuits.

Loras and I have always been very close. I still miss him terribly and always hope to see him amongst the new arrivals.

Sounds like someone I should meet, if she were to ever show up here.

I hope so too, for your sake.

My twin brother and I were close as well. Mom was sick a lot, so we were often split between relatives till she recovered, but we still tried to keep in touch.

I *there's a pause.* He was killed when we were eighteen. I don't know how I'd feel if he were to arrive, maybe just become an emotional wreck.

I'm so very sorry about your brother. He deserves a second chance, too. Just as my brother does.
