( It's been a while, not only since Kate's addressed the city by video, but since the city's seen her in full, vibrant pink haired glory. God, she misses paying for hair dye with money like a normal person. God favours are a pain. But that did happen, and her hair returned to its customary hue sometime before everyone's limbs got chopped off or their senses disappeared.

But she appears calm, collected, and just a smidgen over this city divided in four nonsense when she speaks. )

First things first - Clinic's on the island with the Colosseum. Supplies are alright. Gonna get transported to other islands soon as possible. Anyone who can heal or do first aid who isn't part of the clinic let us know your location if anyone needs help.

( But most importantly: ) Don't be stupid. Our assistance is limited for now.

The powers in your world sound so interesting. [ He muses softly ] I hope you do not mind my curiosity overmuch - it is just so unlike anything I know. Are they restricted to any one particular thing? Or is there a wide variety?

( After all of her own curiosity, how can she say no? And besides, she likes talking about powers. All of those years of training have to come in handy somewhere.

As a result? She's actually pretty clear when she speaks, straightening up, a gleam in her eyes. )

Superhumans have heightened physical abilities - we're stronger and faster than humans. Most of it's better, except if we're injured or sick. ( That? Is worse, and it's times like that when Kate envies humans. Their colds don't last as long. They don't need to wear a cast as long if they break a limb and can't get it healed. )

Got individual powers too. Could be affectin' powers, what I do, or somethin' like teleportation or healing. Can work different in everyone - know healers who transfer a person's injuries to themselves and ones who use their own spit to heal.

( And that's only a fraction of it all, really. )

Most important part is that they're part of our biology. Get affected by our health and condition like anything else. More physically fit you are, more you train 'em, better your powers work.

[ Maglor settles to listen, preternaturally still, eyes bright as he takes it in ]

If they are a part of it, it makes sense. [ He agrees ] They must run in families too then, I assume? And based on the way you speak - I assume there are folk without powers, yes? You sound very like us, in some ways.

( A nod at all of that. )

You interact much with the non-powered ones?

Not the same way you do, I think. We Quendi - all of us can touch the world, in one way or another, for we are tied very closely to it. For us 'non-powered' would be ... well, Men, and Dwarves, and Hobbits. Although Dwarves, I think, have their own abilities - they just don't talk about them with people who aren't Dwarves.

( A tilt of her head. Hobbits? A word she's never heard before, another new thing in the endless universes which Hadriel brings to them. )

Makes sense. ( The dwarves' attitudes, that is. ) People ask stupid questions.

[ He laughs brightly at that ]

You sound just like them, when you say that! Our kindreds are sundered by old griefs, now. But I am of the Noldor, and we remember the early days, when our kin and theirs worked together to make works greater than we could have managed alone. But King Azhagal would always grumble that we were flighty and strange and asked weird questions.

( Look, she grew up hearing that humans are stupid. Even if they know that people with powers exist, they can't quite control themselves from asking dumbfuck things.

And then there's the people who are afraid of Superhumans... )

...Sounds like home. ( Old griefs, though unfortunately given new fuel, even if treaties have been signed now. )

[ Maglor would say 'impetous', rather than stupid! But he's very fond of Men, since one of his fosterlings tied his fate to them ]

I suppose people will be people everywhere. [ He agrees ] Ai! But I miss Azhagal. He was a good friend, and strong ally. The dwarves now are suspicious of outsiders, and Gimli and Legolas are an unusual friendship simply because there has not been close friendship between our peoples since Celebrimbor died and Eregion fell.

( She supposes she's met some good ones here, but back home? Well, the only humans Kate meets are the people who work in shops, the ones who - ever so occasionally - get wrapped up in some Superpowered accident and need treating. And those she never really met, but had to stop when they were possessed.

Humans back home are a concept, really, more than they are people. )

I get nostalgic, at times. I miss the days when elves and dwarves were not just reluctant allies but good friends, I suppose.

( Can't relate, by virtue of not living for thousands of years. Come to think of it, she doesn't even know if there were such days back home, she can only guess that there never was. )

'S the kind of shit that happens. ( Friendships end, people leave, people die. She says it all as casually as possible, but it's hypocrisy, really, from a woman who constantly feels the ache of lost relationships. )

The world turns, and the elves are leaving, and with us the memory of the elder days. Not that it is all for the bad, mind. But... it is sad to see it go, all the same.
