Staten Island Ferry, Elvish Style! [Video/Action ]

[ Curufin and Margaery Tyrell set sail from the bay of North Island, the same day as he puts the finishing touches on the boat. It is clinker-built (also called lapstrake), which makes the hull flexible, good for sailing turbulent waters. It has a single square-sail (sewn by Margaery), though it also has rowlocks and oars, in the unlikely event of the winds dying. It looks something like this.

It can be crewed by two people, but more would be nice! Give Margaery and Curufin a holler if you want them to come pick you up! Either because you want to come along for the ride and learn something about sailing, or because you need to be ferried to a different island than the one you're on. They'll take you wherever you want to go. Also, call if you want something picked up and delivered to you, or if you just want the sailors to come and visit you. ]

That's great! Wow, have you even slept since we got here? You made that fast.

I literally have not slept. Well, just a few fifteen-minute catnaps here and there. Luckily for me, Elves can live with sleep for quite a while!

[She gives the camera a little wave.] And likewise. I'm Elena.

Heh. I hope to provide the community with a few boats that will ride the waves safely.

[ He smiles and waves back. ] Hello, Elena! I'm Curufin. Which island are you on?

It was quite a task getting the sail done in a timely manner, but it's done.

[ He lifts the phone and pans the camera forward and aft, to show as much of the boat as possible, and also, of course, Margaery's smiling face. ]

The boat floats!

[ And he turns the phone so that Maglor can see that they're well away from shore. ]

We haven't named her, though I suppose perhaps we should?

[On the south island, Kain is keeping an eye on the surroundings from the Watchtower, when he spots the boat approaching.]

Finally...

[Or at least, he's assuming that someone among them has finally gotten a boat together. He definitely hopes it's not someone... or something... hostile. Just to be sure, he's going to make sure to meet the boat and see who's on it. He leaps down from the tower, then hastily makes his way toward where he'd seen the boat heading.]

I see it does! And no holes in it, so far either. Well done, Curvo! And perhaps you should, but I trust you will be a little more creative than Tyelko was apt to be.

Oh, you're thinking of that time Tyelko tried to give his horse the name Horse?

[ Oh, he wasn't going to name the boat Boat, of course not! He was going to name it Ship! XD ]

[ The boat comes gliding around the southern curve of South Island, checking out this coast and the way the currents flow past it. Curufin spots the Watchtower not far from the westernmost cape of the island, and marks it down as a guide to navigation. The boat is soon moored in the lee of that cape, and not long after that a figure comes splashing through the surf, waving at Kain. At least, Curufin's pretty sure that is Kain. There aren't many people who can run or leap up or down the side of a building with such ease, who else could it be? ]

Kain! [ He smiles in greeting, and wades up onto the rocky shore. He sits down and pulls his boots off and dumps the water out of them. ]

No. No calling it Ship! ]

Thank you. I had to patch together some fabric from the shop to make it. Perhaps it's not the prettiest, but it should work.

[she laughs] Oh? What sorts of names does he use?

[once the boat docks, she leaves the boat and dips a graceful curtsey to him]

Right. Tyelko should have called him Doggie!

[ Margaery, HAAAAALP!!!! Supply a name for the boat, QUICK!!! Or heaven only knows what your shipmate might come up with! ]

[ He smiles and shakes his head ]

Well. In fairness to Curvo, he is better at this than our brother Tyelko - he did choose a good name for his son! But allow me to say that our brother Celegorm named his dog "Dog" and allow you to draw your own suppositions from there.
