Staten Island Ferry, Elvish Style! [Video/Action ]

[ Curufin and Margaery Tyrell set sail from the bay of North Island, the same day as he puts the finishing touches on the boat. It is clinker-built (also called lapstrake), which makes the hull flexible, good for sailing turbulent waters. It has a single square-sail (sewn by Margaery), though it also has rowlocks and oars, in the unlikely event of the winds dying. It looks something like this.

It can be crewed by two people, but more would be nice! Give Margaery and Curufin a holler if you want them to come pick you up! Either because you want to come along for the ride and learn something about sailing, or because you need to be ferried to a different island than the one you're on. They'll take you wherever you want to go. Also, call if you want something picked up and delivered to you, or if you just want the sailors to come and visit you. ]

That's great! Wow, have you even slept since we got here? You made that fast.

[ Curufn grins back. ]

I literally have not slept. Well, just a few fifteen-minute catnaps here and there. Luckily for me, Elves can live with sleep for quite a while!

[She gives the camera a little wave.] And likewise. I'm Elena.

Pretty sure the sail is a critical component. Don't sell yourself short. Either way, you guys are giving us more transportation than we had before.

[ He lifts the phone and pans the camera forward and aft, to show as much of the boat as possible, and also, of course, Margaery's smiling face. ]

The boat floats!

[ And he turns the phone so that Maglor can see that they're well away from shore. ]

We haven't named her, though I suppose perhaps we should?

[On the south island, Kain is keeping an eye on the surroundings from the Watchtower, when he spots the boat approaching.]

Finally...

[Or at least, he's assuming that someone among them has finally gotten a boat together. He definitely hopes it's not someone... or something... hostile. Just to be sure, he's going to make sure to meet the boat and see who's on it. He leaps down from the tower, then hastily makes his way toward where he'd seen the boat heading.]

[ The boat comes gliding around the southern curve of South Island, checking out this coast and the way the currents flow past it. Curufin spots the Watchtower not far from the westernmost cape of the island, and marks it down as a guide to navigation. The boat is soon moored in the lee of that cape, and not long after that a figure comes splashing through the surf, waving at Kain. At least, Curufin's pretty sure that is Kain. There aren't many people who can run or leap up or down the side of a building with such ease, who else could it be? ]

Kain! [ He smiles in greeting, and wades up onto the rocky shore. He sits down and pulls his boots off and dumps the water out of them. ]

[Kain moves along at a good pace, but once he's close enough it's definitely obvious who it is, so he at least drops his guard at that point. The last thing they'd need is an invasion, after all. But knowing that one of their own has a boat... that's a very good sign, indeed.]

Curufin. [Kain approaches, glancing over toward the boat with fascination. It's small, but looks pretty sturdy. He's got more of an eye for airships, but the construction is more or less a similar idea.] It's good to see you... and to see you've found a way to travel between the islands. Are there more like this boat?

[once the boat docks, she leaves the boat and dips a graceful curtsey to him]

Greetings. Who might you be?

I'm Kain Highwind, of the Guard. And you are?

[He glances back toward the boat, looking it over. Not bad, really, even if small to serve as mass transport between these islands. Still, it's a good start, isn't it?]

Impressive boat, by the way... Did you aid in building it?

It would be good if we could manage that. But I guess we'll have to keep doing our jobs and see what is feasible. If you'd be interested in such a project, maybe you could take a look around and make some recommendations?
