Staten Island Ferry, Elvish Style! [Video/Action ]

[ Curufin and Margaery Tyrell set sail from the bay of North Island, the same day as he puts the finishing touches on the boat. It is clinker-built (also called lapstrake), which makes the hull flexible, good for sailing turbulent waters. It has a single square-sail (sewn by Margaery), though it also has rowlocks and oars, in the unlikely event of the winds dying. It looks something like this.

It can be crewed by two people, but more would be nice! Give Margaery and Curufin a holler if you want them to come pick you up! Either because you want to come along for the ride and learn something about sailing, or because you need to be ferried to a different island than the one you're on. They'll take you wherever you want to go. Also, call if you want something picked up and delivered to you, or if you just want the sailors to come and visit you. ]

Pretty sure the sail is a critical component. Don't sell yourself short. Either way, you guys are giving us more transportation than we had before.

I should probably introduce myself. Margaery Tyrell, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. And you are...?

Not right now, but I'm sure I will later. A lot of people will.

[She has to raise her eyebrow. Not the kind of introduction she expected.]

Wow—I didn't know we had royalty among us.

I'd imagine so! We'll be quite busy for a while.

[she smiles sweetly]

A queen without her country, unfortunately. All I have to show for it is the crown.

[Her own smile takes on a sympathetic cast. She can't relate to being royalty, sure, but a lost home is a lost home.]

And maybe some leadership skills. Which we can use.

[Unless she's a pure figurehead, but hey. Benefit of the doubt.]

My grandmother taught me everything there is to know about politics and leadership. I hope to be useful. For one thing, I don't think we've seen the last of the Null and I don't think we're doing enough to get ready for them.

[It's not something she likes to admit, especially when there are so many other pressing matters to handle, but she won't lie about it.]

Any thoughts on what we should do to prepare?

I'm not sure. Last time, it seemed as though we were all fighting, but fighting primarily for ourselves. Next time, something more . . . organized might do, but people here seem to take poorly to anything like a hierarchy.

So, an army?

[She raises an eyebrow at the idea.]

...yeah, I think it would be a hard sell. Most of the people I know here aren't very...regimented.

I wish I could disagree. [She sighs.] At least we know a little more about what we're dealing with. That's something.

[Maybe not enough, but it is something.]

Do we? By now, they could have reinvented themselves again. Learned from their mistakes the last time and found ways to compensate for them this time. There is no doubt in my mind that they hunt for us still and this time, there will be no mercy shown to anyone, regardless of whether or not they can fight.

No, but you're right. Even if it doesn't come to that, we need to be prepared for the worst.

Being the queen of a war-torn country and being murdered by your goodmother so that she could seize power tends to leech it out of you.

We do. And I fear that there's precious little that's being done to prepare.

[Jesus. It certainly would, and journalist at heart or not, Elena's not going to push Margaery for details on that.]

Maybe, maybe not. We aren't going to be an army, but that doesn't mean people are sitting and doing nothing, even if they're not advertising it. And I'm sure everyone would welcome it if people came forward with suggestions we can act on.

I hope they're preparing. We need everyone who's capable of taking up arms trained and ready to do so at a moment's notice.
