Staten Island Ferry, Elvish Style! [Video/Action ]
[ Curufin and Margaery Tyrell set sail from the bay of North Island, the same day as he puts the finishing touches on the boat. It is clinker-built (also called lapstrake), which makes the hull flexible, good for sailing turbulent waters. It has a single square-sail (sewn by Margaery), though it also has rowlocks and oars, in the unlikely event of the winds dying. It looks something like this.
It can be crewed by two people, but more would be nice! Give Margaery and Curufin a holler if you want them to come pick you up! Either because you want to come along for the ride and learn something about sailing, or because you need to be ferried to a different island than the one you're on. They'll take you wherever you want to go. Also, call if you want something picked up and delivered to you, or if you just want the sailors to come and visit you. ]
Hello, Hadriel! The ferry's in service.
[ OOC: Either or both Margaery or Curufin will answer! But you can also request one or the other. ]

[ Nope, no more walking places! Not unless there are giants here, that have legs that will reach the bottom while their heads are above water! ]
You're right, it didn't take long to make the trip from North Island around to South Island. The currents were with us, and the wind, but it's not all that far.
I'd love to build an airship, but it may just not be feasible in our situation, even if we could acquire all the materials. We don't know how long we're going to be here, after all. Nor under what circumstances we'll be leaving. I'm assuming the Null will catch up to us sooner or later. Too much to hope for, that they wouldn't. If we had to leave quickly, we don't have any way of knowing what we might lose in the process, and I'd hate to lose an airship the way the builders of the Hadriel hydroelectric plant lost their project. Still. . . maybe someday we'll have an occasion to need an airship pilot, and you'd be the first choice for that.
I can't imagine anybody being more conscientious than you, Kain. In the Guard or anywhere else.

And I'm glad we won't have too much of a hassle crossing the sea to get around. It's a slight nuisance, certainly, but... it could have been far worse.
[The islands might have been further apart, or any number of hardships... or, again, that cave thing.]
That's true... Given how things have been going so far, I'd say it's probably only a matter of time before we have to move on again. The Null are persistent enemies. I guess if we ever end up in some kind of sky fortress, I'll have the expertise for that. Or for navigating around mountains and cliffs... For now, I'm fine with leaving it to those of your skilled with boats.
It hasn't always been this way... I've failed at being that way in the past. But I'm trying to make up for it here.
Action
I agree, it could have been a lot worse. [ Hadriel could have been dropped onto islands that were hundreds or thousands of miles apart, or the islands could have been inhabited by tribes of carnivorous monsters that shot flames out of their mouths, or the sea and the shores could have been crawling with creatures both hard to kill and very, very hungry. Or may other awful possibilities. ]
Speaking of sky fortresses, I'm kind of hoping for that. I have spoken with a few people who have experience living in outer space or traveling through it in interstellar craft. I would find that sort of life most exciting! Besides, we might have to fight the Null in such an environment, sooner or later. We'll need your expertise, if that happens.
If you have anything to make up for, I guess I'll believe you. I just find it hard to imagine, from knowing you in the present.
Action
[Kain for one is very relieved that it didn't end up that way, with an even worse struggle than they have on hand. For as much as he seeks out battle and bettering himself, he wouldn't wish that kind of life on everyone here. Constant war can be draining, even on someone like him, as he'd found.]
Do you think we might end up in such a location one day? Is that possible? Did the Null give some indication of that? If so…. Well… if so, I'll be glad to do what I can to help. The air is the one element I understand completely.
You'll have to take my word for it, then. Perhaps someday I'll tell you more about it, but just know that I've done some regrettable actions in my past… and I'm doing everything in my power to find the right path now. It's not easy, but I know it's something I must do.

[ Constant war can be draining indeed! ]
The Null themselves said nothing about it, but I'm guessing based on what little we know about them and about their war against the god-race. It was apparently an intergalactic war, taking place on more than one planet. And they must have transported themselves through the Void between the worlds, in order to attack us as they did last year, so either they have interstellar travel ships or they used a Door of their own. The gods have moved Hadriel three times during my time here, and I'm guessing more than that, before I arrived. It all adds up to a war taking place in a theater of operations larger than anything I have ever seen in my life. It seems probable to me that we will eventually be fighting it on that scale.
All right, I'll take your word for it. If you are ever inclined to tell me about it, I'll listen and not judge. I myself have much to make up for, and would therefore understand. I respect you for your efforts to find the right path. [ Rueful smile. ] No, it isn't easy, is it?
action
[He knows all too well he can be cold at times, so it's a surprise to him to be told otherwise for once.]
Anyway, you're right. This whole matter goes beyond us and our situation here, and it's presumably been happening for a long while. I can see it escalating eventually as well, which is all the more reason to prepare. Of course... not everyone here is capable of fighting, but there should be enough of us who are... Though it's a powerful enemy to face, especially if even these gods haven't been able to finish them off.
[Kain nods, considering that.] I may tell you more about it someday. Especially if you'd understand such a thing. It's far from easy, but... I've always been one for a challenge anyway. I can take this one as well, and I know that I must, too.
Good place to wrap? They can catch each other later!
We'll fight if we have to. And I would be honored to fight by your side, Kain.
Just let me know, anytime you want to talk about your past. You'll have a respectful listener and a strong supporter.
yep it works for me!
As would I. If it comes to it, I know I'll be able to count on you in battle. I don't say that lightly, either.
And... thank you. I'm glad you're offering.
[Someday... When the right moment comes, when he's ready, it definitely will happen.]
