Staten Island Ferry, Elvish Style! [Video/Action ]

[ Curufin and Margaery Tyrell set sail from the bay of North Island, the same day as he puts the finishing touches on the boat. It is clinker-built (also called lapstrake), which makes the hull flexible, good for sailing turbulent waters. It has a single square-sail (sewn by Margaery), though it also has rowlocks and oars, in the unlikely event of the winds dying. It looks something like this.

It can be crewed by two people, but more would be nice! Give Margaery and Curufin a holler if you want them to come pick you up! Either because you want to come along for the ride and learn something about sailing, or because you need to be ferried to a different island than the one you're on. They'll take you wherever you want to go. Also, call if you want something picked up and delivered to you, or if you just want the sailors to come and visit you. ]

Hello, Hadriel! The ferry's in service.

[ OOC: Either or both Margaery or Curufin will answer! But you can also request one or the other. ]

I am glad. [He smiles to hear her pride ]

Your family sound like a good people. [ It reminds him of Haleth, long ago, proud and fierce and unyielding, who led her people unflinching ]

Nothing wrong with that either - there is something to be said for simplicity!

We were all very loyal to one another. If you slandered one Tyrell, another ten would pop up out of nowhere to defend him. Even my father. Grandmother liked to poke fun at him occasionally, but she wouldn't allow anyone outside the family to do so. [proud and fierce and unyielding. she would like the history books to say something like that about her, but she fears she'll be a mere footnote when the book about the War of the Five Kings is written]

Simplicity, yes. Though, a part of me will still cling to the title of queen until it's no longer possible.

Our family was the same - too close, some would say! But it kept us going, many a time, to know that we were there for each other.

[ He laughs softly ]

Ai! I wish Galadriel was here. She was like you, when she was younger. Always wanted to be a ruler, that one.

I know the feeling. Many times in King's Landing when I felt as though my cheeks ached from smiling all the time and my soul withered as I pretended to be interested in one gruesome thing after another that Joffrey was enamored with, I thought of my family, and that kept me going.

[she smiles at him, a genuine smile]

I wish she were here as well! From what you've said of her, I think we'd be great friends.

[ He grimaces ] I am sorry you had to suffer through that - but glad that you had thoughts of your family to sustain you! Bad kings are always a grief - to nation as well as people! And often hard to depose, too.

She is the very best of us. [ Maglor says fondly ]

She even became a queen, in all but name. But like many, she found the position rather less enthusing than she had thought. I think if you offered her the crown now she would laugh!

My family kept me going. [that and her own ambition to become queen] Joffrey was a terrible king, ignorant and cruel. [she hesitates a moment, biting her lip, then continues] He didn't have to be deposed. Grandmother poisoned him at our wedding feast.

[dryly] I know the feeling all too well. Now I have to meet her somehow.

Poison? Not my style, but understandable in that sort of situation. Wars to depose kings are messy, terrible business. Your grandmother, it sounds like, very definitely did not approve!

No, she certainly did not. Moreover, she'd heard from Sansa Stark herself of Joffrey's treatment of her. She also heard the rumors about what he did to a pair of whores his uncle gifted him and what he did to another one while "playing" with his crossbow.

She knew that Joffrey's cruelty would turn towards me and that his madness would lead the country to ruin.

[ Maglor shudders ]

He sounds truly terrible, and I am so sorry, Margaery, that you had to face that!

[reluctantly]

But I would have faced it. I would have done my best to . . . mitigate the damage. What he would have done to me, I cannot say. But I would have learned to live with it.

O Great Heart!

[ He sketches her a bow - no mocking here, this is a full, formal, court bow, hand over heart ]

You would have made a very great Queen.

The worst part of it is that I knew. I knew we were in danger and the High Sparrow refused to listen.

...a friend thinks I should apologize to Sansa and Jon on behalf of my family for not stopping the Lannisters.

[personal profile] bythewaves 2018-06-25 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Do you feel it would help? [ He asks ]

There is certainly something to be said about the responsibility of a lord or prince to make at least token restitution, but it also rather depends on the situation. Sansa, I think, would have long and long forgiven you - but a public apology between Houses is different to a private one. Was it actually your responsibility to stop them?
roseofthetyrells: (my snake is a shark tonight)

Re: video

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-06-25 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I fear that it would reopen old wounds.

I would like to think that Sansa has already forgiven me. We were kept separate after the Red Wedding, so I never had the chance to express my sympathies in person. I don't know how Jon would feel about it. [and her voice turns bitter] No, it wasn't my responsibility to stop them. Quite the opposite. It was my responsibility to be pleasing and charming to them.
bythewaves: (hm?)

video

[personal profile] bythewaves 2018-06-26 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ He considers ]

If it was not your responsibility - nor that of your house - it may be that a public apology may do more harm than good. I fear I have yet to meet Jon Snow, although Sansa has spoken of him, so I do not know how he might react. But perhaps, if you felt the guilt weighing on you, a private apology might clear the air.
roseofthetyrells: (can you make it to the end?)

video

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-06-27 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
No, House Tyrell had nothing to do with the planning or the carrying out. Grandmother would have told me and father wouldn't have been able to keep such a secret.

It's just--it's been years. For all of us. I don't want to remind them of pain.
bythewaves: (hm?)

video

[personal profile] bythewaves 2018-06-28 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Then, if you do not mind me saying so - I would judge that a public apology would be worthless to both you, and they. A private one also, but if you felt that it might clear the air between you and Sansa, it might be worth considering. I do feel, however, that it would not be terribly much use.
roseofthetyrells: (cheated by the opposite of love)

video

[personal profile] roseofthetyrells 2018-06-28 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even know if it would help with Sansa. She seems . . . troubled by other things. Nothing she's confided in me and nothing I've felt comfortable asking about, but our closeness was in King's Landing.
bythewaves: (hm?)

video

[personal profile] bythewaves 2018-06-29 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Then perhaps it might be best to leave it lie. I think you would probably be better served to see if there is anything of your old friendship to rebuild, here in a different land.

Trust comes with time, and effor - I have found Sansa great hearted and kind. I think, if you reach out, you may find the distance between you shorter than you think!
