2.8/ video/ i'd be glad to meet me if i were you
( Hey, Hadriel! You know that lovely rare sight of Kate, actually using video instead of text? You're being treated to it again today, hair a paler shade of pink than before (she needs to dye it, but it can be stretched out for a while longer, she thinks) and eyes?
Well. They're completely white, no irises or pupils to be seen, and giving off an eerie glow against her skin. But that's the point of it, she needs a statement to be made. (Though, honestly, there’s enough statement in the background of the Colosseum, crumbling and ancient as ever, in the frame.
Kate, dramatic? Say it ain’t so.) )
So.
( Still sticking with those eyes, Kitkat? Okay, then. )
We need to talk about the Door.
( A pause. )
...Least, what's most likely the Door.
( Meanwhile, Alphys is very slightly off-camera, on virtue of the fact that she’s four feet tall and therefore too short to be caught in most video focused on someone’s face. But she stands on her tiptoes, waving her hand to get it to tilt down a bit. )
So, uh, we may have been-- well, uh, I’ve b-been looking into it. It absolutely matches Door signatures of the energy we’ve, uhm, captured when it brings in new arrivals. It’s unstable, and not consistent, but… yeah.
( She looks down, tapping her claws together nervously. )
It is telling the truth. Or s-seems to be.
( Maybe Kate should sit down the next time they do this. But nevertheless, her eyes finally fade and she looks less than pleased with the fact that they can only say so much. )
Behaviour means we haven’t got a proper reading on it. ( Her lips purse and tug to one side. She wants to get her hands on it, but it already causes her headaches when she stares at it from above ground. What the hell kind of experience would looking at it directly be? ) Not in the time we’ve had.
( SIGH )
Null’s not bullshitting us, far as we can tell. ( It would be so much easier if it was, really. The thought of it being somewhere in this city makes Kate antsy. Who knows how long they have before its communicators go back online and it drags the rest of its species here like some horrifying, metallic beacon? ) So.
We need to organise.
( Before 50 different people end up with the idea of doing their own thing, really.
But fuck if she didn’t have other plans for this. Ones which gave them more time, which didn’t ask them to post to the network in plain sight of the gods. )
It can’t really, uh, search right now, but I might b-be able to help a little?
( She reaches off-camera and pulls out a small device, with what looks like a camera lens on the back. )
I made this a while ago, but it tracks magical signatures. I’ve been able to confirm that the Door has, uh, a unique s-signature that doesn’t match god magic. It can’t track long distances, just scan what’s in front of it, but, uhm. If anyone thinks they found a piece, I can confirm it.
( ooc: replies will, of course, come from both kate and alphys, but holler if you want someone specific! )

He is also sensible, though, and would rather take aid from people he can trust where possible than just run off on his own without a plan.] Is there anything else you can tell me about this? And once we do find these pieces, what then? How do you think we are to use them? Must we return them to the being underneath the colosseum?

Not much. Null's info is all we've got to go off otherwise. ( Isn't that fun? :| ) After-- ( Kate sucks in a breath between her teeth. ) Need to take our time and learn more about them. Haven't had to figure out interdimensional powers before.
( But come to think of it- ) You think you can help there?

[It is the Door they are dealing with, after all, even if it's not what they all expected it to be. Kate knows what a vested interested he has in that.]

( Even if it's "not very similar", knowing that is a step up from anything Kate would be able to say. That is - if they know how it doesn't work, they can learn how it does. )
Do it together.
( As if that was ever a question. Few work better in this damned city. )

Though... if we succeed... [The ice alien trails off, his smile dimming. They have a lot to do—recovering the fragments, reuniting them with the Door, and somehow gaining control of it—and no certainty that any one step will work, but if it does...] ... Well, it will be a bittersweet moment indeed. So much so that I am surprised by it. I may be getting ahead of myself to even think like this, but... even if our paths diverge I will not forget you or what you have done for me, Kate. I never could.
[He hates to think like this, honestly. So much of their time here has been spent enduring and figuring things out together that it will not feel right to suddenly have to face the obstacles in his own world without her... but Kate has her strange, unfathomable alliance to the gods, and if she does not stay with them—Makers, he hopes she does not—then she has her duty in her own world, much as he does. These years separated from his people have been the hardest he has ever had to face, and even though he has never ceased in his efforts to remain strong, it is not hard for those who know him to see how the confinement in Hadriel has affected him. He yearns to be able to return to them, to have the sky and the open space and the stars as pathways to wherever he wants to go.
Glacius is, in the end, a being that has to go free. He would have never imagined it would be as hard as it feels now, but that is a testament to the gifts that Kate has given him... fitting, then, that this could be the last one if everything goes as they are hoping.]
i love pain
Well, never mind that.
The point is, these people wormed their way inside. They fought beside her and each time the gods tried something new, manipulated their emotions and memories for power, there was someone who helped or needed help. A group of people tossed into a shitty situation with only each other to truly rely on; it happens.
And, of all of them, Glacius is the one who's been here from the very first moment she was bolting for an exit in the Colosseum, going too quickly to correct her course on unfamiliar territory. Never leaving, never wavering in his aid or kindness, more than Kate has believed she deserved for years.
The thought of saying goodbye aches deep in her bones. It spills over into the tightness in her jaw and the flare of her nostrils as she considers the idea, as his words find their home somewhere deep in her chest. She flicks the feed to private as the need for privacy grates under her skin like something physical. )
Might not have a choice.
( Her tone is as tight as her jaw, the dizzying muddle of memories of home and Hadriel caused by returning a constant presence. She never wanted to forget this place when the Door dragged her back home, but she didn't get to choose that. )
If you remember-- You're the one who can hop dimensions. Look me up.
i hate them tbh i want them to adventure together always!!
[It will be hard; he does not have the exact trans-planar coordinates specific to Kate's world, he doubts anyone from there would know how to give them. But if they can beat the odds to find their way out of Hadriel, then the alien feels confident that they can overcome anything... and he's never been the sort to rest until he's achieved his goals.]
they will find a way ok X(
Got it.
( She just hopes they will be able to remember, that it'll be more than just a niggling, inexplicable feeling in her gut next time. )

[Most good science is throwing spaghetti at a wall until something works, but this is a LOT of spaghetti.]
I don't really know if any of us are gonna know how to put it back together. But we have to try.

If you do go to retrieve the Door... please be careful. I cannot imagine it will be unprotected.

I don't know if we're, uhm-- heading there directly. It might be super powerful. I'm still t-trying to figure all that out.
[Everything kinda came out here fast.]
Honestly, I, I don't really know what to do with any of this. I don't feel qualified to know anything. But I guess I do?

H-Heh-- well, yeah. I, I promise, I'll do my best for everyone out there! If I can do something, I really want to. Even if it's scary.

I will. I'll-- I'll think of my friends and be strong! My friends are my power!!
[Oops, this has turned into an inspirational anime speech.]
