This is an open call to my crew.
[is he too lazy to send individual private messages, or does he just not care? Por que no los dos? It's very piratey either way, Law sitting with the flag on his wall framing him perfectly like a real captain.]
It may be too late to stop some of you from throwing yourself at the gods, but I don't need that kind of help. Gathering food and water is a novice-level task, our ship is in progress, and I have no need for magical sails when we have a magic-user who can control weather. If you absolutely must go to them with hands out like beggars, at least get the one thing we can't manage on our own: the containers for the fragments. [thoughtful pause, shifty eyes] A map wouldn't hurt.
The gods seem to believe we're incapable of this task even after we've demonstrated our strength and hardiness in that two-week battle against the Null. Had we been transported to the jungle or to the snow, I would happily take advice from those who've lived extensively in such climates and have experience. But, we're in a world of oceans and islands, and that's where my expertise comes in. We can do this. Believe in me.
If you've already latched onto one of them, at least make your own damn decisions about what you're willing to feel. Don't let yourself get carried away. Leave the god-provided boats and provisions to the rookies who are going to want to make their own voyages.
[his own tone is all over the map, never settling on anger or hope or any one thing for too long, and his words are deliberately chosen. Man, it's hard not mentioning one of the gods by name, it takes work!]

「It works in his favor anyway?」

you assume I'm wondering. or that I care at all about your cryptic attempts at whatever this is. if you can't use your words then it's best not to write any.

[Rey's on the fence with the gods, but she trusts Sorrow enough as an individual that she doesn't see the point in always being so stubborn.]

I'm not sure the comparison is entirely inaccurate, but to each their own. As the navigator, I'm sure a map will come in handy. No argument from here.

[the long way of saying, yeah sure maybe but it's third on the priority list]
I prefer to conduct myself as not a beggar, even in unfamiliar seas.

The gods don't have a very high opinion of us. They've often indicated that. For me, the point of collecting some equipment from them has to do with making it possible for multiple expeditions to try for those Door fragments. I don't want anybody to get stuck with a kid's snorkel mask.
By the way, you never did quite make it clear who is on your crew?

I'm not concerned about others, only my own crew. I'll look after them to the end, the rest of the city can do whatever it pleases.

[wryly]
I'm glad you think so highly of me.

[see? he can be less of an asshole when it comes to giving credit where credit is due. And Alucard, you are going to save them from dependency on the gods. Maybe.]

I do my best.
[He flicks another smile at the man -- look smiling is kind of his thing -- before he sobers slightly.]
And I understand why you wouldn't want to be at their mercy.
