❅ Eleven (Text)

I have a delicate matter I need to discuss with a lady; preferably one who comes from a modern era. (Since her era has been called "medieval" more than once. Surely humanity has progressed in this...?)

I thank you in advance for your time. I would also like to -

(This is more difficult.)

A great Elf has left us. He was very dear to me and I will miss him for the rest of my life.

Unfortunately, most of the remedies are temporary.

There might be some of what's called 'midol' or 'ibuprofen' in the shops or clinic, or maybe advil. Just be very careful and only take one or two at a time if you find any-one of the same pill, not all at once.

Aside from that, all I can offer is to make a hot water bag. Find a rubber bag, or atleast one that's water and leak proof, fill it with hot water and just let it rest on your lower back. Same effect as a heating pad and works wonders-still temporary, unfortunately.

Most pills of that sort of derived from plants, but they've been concentrated so much that only the more active ingredients are there. The active ingredient in aspirin comes from willow bark, it's just been isolated, concentrated and mixed with other things, but the idea is the same.

Maybe there's a form of tea, that should help-and unlike wine you don't need to worry about your behavior or getting sick afterwards.

Most medicines are derived from plant essences in some for or another-this just ensures a controlled dosage without worrying about side effects.

To say nothing of hangovers.

[Sent a few minutes later.] would you like anything else?

They don't, they just study and prescribe them based on the patients needs. The pills themselves are made by other people to set standards. I'm certain at one point, doctors...maesters...would make the pills themselves, but with no way to regulate or even be sure the doctor knew what they were doing, it would've been too easy for the pills to do more harm than good.

[Snake oil salesmen and the so called 'war on drugs'-all of which she'd grown up with to some extent.

Duly noted.

I think back at the time, it was the almighty dollar. Medical history isn't really my strong suit, but there are stories of so called 'snake-oil' salesmen selling quack medications simply as a way to make money.

It's a common dream back home too. There are all sorts of scams set up where people think they're going to get rich quick, and only end up more broke than when they were at the start.
