[Mettaton’s been here for a little while, and definitely long overdue to talk to the city at large. But today he wouldn’t dare to avoid it, not at all. Because hey, when it comes to what is significant to someone else he cares about…it’s definitely important to make a big deal about it to everyone. So the city is thusly presented with his beautiful robot face, accompanied by a winning smile and a wink (Someone should mention that winking makes no sense when you have only one eye visible).]

Hello, darlings!! It’s been…apparently a very long time since I’ve spoken to any of you, or maybe if I’ve even seen you at all! My name is Mettaton, and I am the magnum opus of our resident monster scientist, Dr. Alphys! You most definitely must be familiar with her!

In fact, that’s what I wanted to talk to everyone about!

I have been made aware that Alphys has been here for two years, and I believe this endows us with a wonderful opportunity to let her know what a kind and beautiful person she is! That’s right, it’s time to share some love for her!!!

[Mettaton nods to himself assuringly, then starts to move with the feed still going. Now that the display is bobbing slightly and less focused on his face, the surroundings are becoming a little more discernable. He’s…in the lab, perhaps?

His next words are hushed, as if he’s trying to hide his presence. Maybe he’s just respecting the work environment of the lab since it’s not just Alphys here, there’s also others who make use of the space.

But this is Mettaton. It’s not that simple.]

Alphys has been working hard lately to help, so even if you don’t see her doing it, you should definitely appreciate her. Tell her how pretty she looks, tell her how smart she is!

[Mettaton stops by a door, moving close to it and cupping a hand round the ear closest. It’s all flair and dramatics, but the smile on his face is real; genuine at first, then a little more conniving.]

In fact…let’s tell her together!!

[Suddenly, the view is jarred and there’s a loud SLAM as Mettaton kicks open the door with absolutely no respect for public property to reveal Alphys, likely surprising her SOUL straight out of her body for at least 5 seconds.]

There she is!! My queen and yours!! Send her a lovely message, won’t you?? Toodles, sweethearts!!

[This might backfire. Maybe he's not right, and Alphys isn't all that popular but ayyy, it doesn't matter. She's the most popular to him. ❤]

ONE PERSON CAN'T DO IT ALL, CAN THEY? JUST AS LONG AS YOU'RE NEAR HER SOMETIMES, SHE'S BOUND TO MAKE GOOD DECISIONS! THAT'S ALL ANYONE CAN ASK FOR.

[Which is just his way of subtly saying that Kate should keep an eye on Alphys for him, since he can't always do it. It's selfish, but when is Mettaton ever not selfish?]

「Hell, it's been a long, long time! Atem had almost forgotten about him. It's not like he ignores his message, he likes Alphys a whole a lot to ignore it anyway, but it is not his main focus at the moment.

He... He never apologized for what he did to him then. Not that it was so much of a big deal either, it being nothing but a dream, but... 」

Mettaton vaguely remembers this guy, didn't he kind of, y'know. Disintegrate the robot in a weird dream sequence? He can't bring himself to hold a grudge given that everything in that sequence was very much under the influence of the gods, he supposes.

But that still wasn't terribly nice.]

My, my! So you remember me, then~?

[Really, what do you say to such a thing? It is, it's him alright! But...it's difficult to gauge the teen's thoughts from such a minimal response.]

「There is some recognition in the guy's features, so it is him. There isn't much more than that, hopefully that means he doesn't resent him. It had been a long time ago for Atem.」

Yeah, I do. 「Kinda.」 It's been a while.

「This is probably a little awkward. They really never talked outside that dream. It's probably time to change that.」

Indeed it has!

[Oof. Little tension in the air, isn't there? Well, time to deal with that, huh? He puts on a smile and tries to lighten the mood.]

You know, I admit that although I would encourage you to laud praises upon Alphys on this day, perhaps we should spend a moment to get to know each other a little better. Our first meeting was, I admit, under some duress.

[Well, at least he's being kind in his wording, right? It...hadn't been real. It was fine. It was perfectly fine.]

Refresh me on your name, honey. I hate to be impolite, but I don't recall if I heard you referred to as anything but an honorific before.

「His answer quick as a trap — as if he were to forget to tell him if he doesn't immediately.」

My name is Atem.「Slower, a little smile. Yeah, that's better.」And you're Mettaton.

「Yeahhhh... he said it, didn't he? Merely confirming... yeah. Aahaha... now what?」

Have you been Alphys' friend for long time?

「The friend of a friend is a friend, right?

If only.」

[Tyki has a sinking feeling that Mettaton and his brother would get on like a house on fire. Which makes him not want to respond, honestly. Flamboyant, over the top types tend to walk over him and make him nervous. They're so free, and wild and usually hiding horrible things under those friendly fronts...

At least Mettaton doesn't seem like a pervert, thank goodness.

He can't be worse than Cyril, if nothing else.

But he's still unsure]

[So he fires off a text, it seems far easier to deal with than actually speaking to the person. And he can still show his support for Alphys without being overwhelmed or irritated...

He thinks.]

We all know that Alphys is a lovely and wonderful woman. It's good to have reminders though, she certainly deserves the attention.

[Whether she wants it or not.]

[Poor Tyki. Mettaton has a very loud way of texting...]

[He hopes...she isn't upset about it. But he doubts it's nothing they wouldn't be able to talk out anyway. They're friends, and she knows how he is, just as he knows how she is.]

[Tyki is amazed. Texting really can bring a person's intentions into typed words. When Alphys texts, Tyki swears he can hear her voice as he reads the words. Her energy and traits come through in her texting style. Each little cat face, silly smile, and abbreviation bring her words to life.

It's the same with Mettaton. He manages to be overwhelming, enthusiastic, and vibrant without so much as a whisper actually spoken.]

I can't imagine your point being missed. She'll appreciate the effort, I'm sure. Who could deny such sincerity?

[And if nothing else, being called a queen in front of the masses can't hurt things. Who doesn't like being compared to royalty? Mettaton at least knows how to get people's attention, and give a compliment.]

She is lovely. (But is this the best way to show her appreciation? Poor Alphys! Sansa frowns, displeased.) Is she alright? You shouldn't be so rough around her.

[Mettaton can't help but look a little disappointed that someone thinks he'd do anything to endanger Alphys at all, but in this woman's defense, she really doesn't know him like that.]

She's fine, I assure you!! It may have been a surprise, but she has absolutely nothing to fear from me!! I just wanted to bring attention to her situation!!! If it was up to her, Alphys probably would have pretended she didn't exist half the time, you know?

But you needn't barge in on her and frighten her so. (Let her teach you how to be gentle with ladies, Mettaton.) Did you see her reaction? You could have been gentler about it and perhaps she might enjoy the attention more.

[He's a little bit shaken. Being called out like that never used to bother him, but now...it's different. It probably reads on his expression as well.]

[Suddenly, her eyes go wide, darting between him and his phone.]

[Maybe she'll pass out again after all.]

[ Curufin smiles. ] Alphys, I think you're lovely. And you're a genius, and you work so hard at what you do! Consider this my message of appreciation.

Mettaton, my name's Curufin, and I'm pleased to meet you. I think you scared poor Alphys a little, but I hope she'll forgive you on account of what you're doing is obviously done out of love.

[After a few responses he's gotten that were...mixed, shall we say...Mettaton's happy that his intentions were not entirely misconstrued. He could have done better though...and he understands that enough to take this with a bit of humility.
