anonymous text/image.

[The post opens with a startling image of Caedra, frozen in ice on one of the islands' many rocky beaches. With it comes a text attachment.]

The demonness, Caedra, has been brought to justice. Let her icy prison be a warning to those who would harm and torment others, and to those who feel they are free of consequences, simply because they have power others do not.

There are those who will fight back. You will be stopped.

To those who lived in fear of her, you have thirty days of respite.

[There's no distinguishing mark, no calling card, either in the post or the image. He acted independently of the Phantom Thieves, after all, so he should behave as such.]

[ooc: Yusuke won't respond to this post, but you're welcome to post reactions/use this thread if you want to poke the Caedra popsicle.]

I thank you for conquering her - no matter how briefly - but this does cause me concern.

Was there no way to imprison her permanently instead?

That was terribly small-minded of you.

Or do you believe that your retribution will not cause the same in kind? I believe the saying is that 'two wrongs don't make a right'.

Alas. Hopefully you did not endanger more people with your justice.

exactly. this is the only proper assessment of such a stupid and pointless exercise.

I don't particularly agree that we should allow such flagrant behavior go unchecked either.

However, the precedent here is not to encourage someone else into taking out their aggression on others and perpetuating the cycle.

( Here comes that same discussion again, doesn't it? What can be done to protect the city from the dangerous residents, the people Hope will revive again and again? Mention any sort of laws, actual enforcement, and the people here are up in arms — what gives any of them more right than the rest to declare punishment and guilt? How could they even hope to contain some of the people here, even then? It leaves the Guard little more than a neighbourhood patrol, really.

But something has to change, one way or another.
)

Lot of impulsive people end up here.

( In other words: she agrees entirely, she's seen this happen too many times now. )

[personal profile] tenuousmorality 2018-10-29 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Exactly, but let us phrase that more eloquently.]

A pattern of poor decisions that affect everyone and cause undue stress upon a city that already has enough emotional duress upon it.

The last one affected actual resources. This one affects lives. The curve of escalation is troubling.

( U rite boyo. Well. Somewhat. )

Don't think it's escalation.

( Because none of this is a first, really. They've had people murdering each other before this, had people resorting to vigilantism and not thinking about the wider consequences of their actions near constantly.

(She, of all people, should know that.)
)

Lot of powerful, bored people, maybe.

Oh, I see.

So then what you are saying to me is that these are all moves by extremely irresponsible people who only think about themselves. That's less troubling then, and more disappointing.

[Aggravating, actually. Why must he be forced to deal with such idiots? At least not everyone is an idiot, this one included, but Yulia help him, he just wants to stay as far away from this as possible.

Too bad for him, right?]

( Oh, trust, she is an idiot. But she's been through the crap that affects the city and has tried ever since to avoid doing so again. )

Some of them. Probably a whole bunch of reasons.

( She'd like to think this was really someone just thinking that this was a good way to protect people, but who really knows how true anything written on a screen is? And Kate knows, for a fact, that despite whatever powers people have, there's a certain powerlessness which comes with being dragged here, a certain urge to rebel or do something other than just sit and wait. )

The reasons for making terrible decisions that could kill people are never good ones.

What if Caedra returns and decides that it would be more appropriate to not only punish the one who took her down, but the people important to them?

Does it end intelligently, with the one who cast the stone, or does it continue down the line with others deciding they need to take their own vengeance? If everyone wants to operate on their own reasons, we could all pay the price.

[Well. Maybe not him, it's not as if he's made deep connections with everyone. Though this? Speaking about something to which he has little stake in all actuality? He's not lost on the irony.]

( There's such things as collateral damage. )

Won't disagree there.

( And she is reasonably certain that this isn't going to end well for anyone, so why answer questions that aren't asking for answers? )

Stupid solution thought up by some desperate person.

( And that part she can't be surprised at, nor can she blame them. )

so best case scenario, on day 31 she tracks you down first. you'd better be ready, because if she kills you she's probably going to use your blood to try and slaughter the whole city again.

the worst thing you can do with revenge is let it fester. and that's all she's going to be doing as a popsicle.

[ Trust him on that, but don't ask him how he knows. Just... don't. And he was gung ho to kill Caedra himself, once, until he was assured it wouldn't be a one-and-done. Sigh. ]
