001 | Joint Video
[ This video opens with an up close and personal view of a dark brown eye. ]
How do we know if it’s even working? I could be speaking to no one right now.
[ The eye narrows, and then the camera wheels back to show a large, dark-haired man next to a smaller, paler, and much prettier blond. The first looks, at the very least, invested in what he’s doing. The second looks like he’d rather be examining his nails. ]
My name is Damianos of Akielos. This – [ Gesturing to the blond beside him. ] – is Laurent of Vere.
These…devices show people speaking to us. Assuming that this is how you all talk to each other, we wanted to introduce ourselves. We have questions, if you can answer.
[ With a show of reluctance, Laurent draws himself up to answer the camera. ] The typical answers you give to newcomers will suffice. How are we here, why are we here, how do we leave. So on and so forth. [ He waves his hand in dismissal. ] If you need a truer list, I can continue. I am sure you've heard all of it before.
[ With a moment of thought, he adds. ] As well as where I can get in-depth information. If anyone has consolidated any information I may read or any other materials I can look through.
[ With that, he falls back to a more relaxed and bored pose. That's all he's got. He's in no mood to give more. Or even thank anyone for the effort. He leaves the rest to Damen. His requests have little to do with books. ]
Beyond that, I want to know the state of your defence. [ He’s seen monsters in caves and general mayhem. It seems unlikely there’d be no organisation at all. ] To whom do I speak about rotation of guards, weapons and drills? If there is someone in charge, direct me to them. If not, the Captain of the guard will do.
[ ooc: Damen is red and Laurent is blue. ]

Should you discover answers, I would be most interested to know. Any viable solution at all would be impressive should you discover one in a short period of time.
[ That wry tone tho ]
text.
I recall asking for information, not offering a solution.
Audio
Just kidding. She's totally judging you. ]
Politely asking or no, answers are not so forthcoming in this place. The how why and when is as opaque as it was when I arrived, and most likely prior to that as well.
I would wonder how far you've sought to obtain your own answers, Laurent of Vere.

Why skip the direct route?
But perhaps I have misjudged this place for a community of like-minded souls wishing to aid each other in escaping. If it is all for one, then proceeding alone is not an unappealing thought.
Audio
You misunderstand. Stay your anger for a moment yet.
Many will undoubtedly be pleased to answer your questions, for what scarce information they can offer, but they will be variations of the same sentiment. Gods, shifting tunnels, and a marked lack of exits. [ A pause, almost as if to make sure he's keeping up. ] Your time is best spent reaching your own conclusions to avail us all a different perspective. Perhaps you might uncover something one of us has missed.
[ TL;DR a different angle on the problem might yield previously unknown information, that's all. Not that she isn't having some fun winding him up. ]
text.
I don't intend to stop once I receive information, if that is what your concern is.
I ask only so that I do not waste my time on the dead ends that have been discovered and can pry into new areas. I can't know what people have discovered, though, without directly asking them.
Audio
I see. My apologies for the misstep.
What knowledge I can offer pertains to the caves. They're almost impossible to map at any great length, with the amount of creatures dwelling within; but my suspicion is the entrances may change at random intervals. If there is a pattern I have not yet discovered it.
Audio
You can almost hear him sigh from afar. ]
I assume the changing entrance is the work of the gods? Or is that more unknown knowledge?
Audio!
Did our ignorance offend you? Perhaps then you won’t mind improving it.
I would like to be useful here, until an escape route is found. I thought it not unreasonable to ask.
Audio
[ Her tone is as cool and even as ever - not the slightest offended. Not to worry. ]
What I can answer is that this city is leaderless. There are no guards, no sovereign kings to dethrone. An earthen brig and nought more. If there is a mortal gaoler pulling the strings, they haven't the spine to step forward.
[ With the theory being the Gods are just glorified puppets, of course. Merlwyb is not a particularly religious person. ]
video
It's not a good situation. Damen's instinct is to improve it, but he's not foolish. It's clear there's much that needs doing. ]
The strongest chains are those that need no lock. I've been told about the gods. If all they want is that we stay here and feel the feelings that feed them, little else is needed.
I don't stand by that. There's enough of us here to matter. At the least, we can protect ourselves from the beasts in the caves. Are you any kind of warrior, yourself?
