[The video opens on a pile of wood, sticks, shrubbery, and chunks of what might have been siding, all piled into a very obvious pyramid surrounded by rocks.]

So everything has sucked recently. Back home in Montana, when shit got rough we'd always get together and have a big bonfire. Get drunk, make s'mores, all that stuff. It didn't make things better but at least you forgot about it for a little while.

Worth a try right?

[He sounds like he's honestly asking. He's trying really hard to be positive for once.]

I've got some graham crackers, chocolate, and other things for roasting. No marshmallows though so if anyone wants to come through in the clutch it would be appreciated.

I'm lighting this up tonight at dusk, so if you want in, be there. I've only got so much to burn and it might not last more than an hour or two.

But everyone else seems to have had it a whole hell of a lot worse so I'm not complaining.

If you weren't killed, you ended up better than a lot of folks. Not that some people take that very seriously in these parts.

[Though if Nick's tone says anything, it's that he takes it seriously.]

I would have been if someone hadn't saved me.

I guess death loses any meaning if you know you're going to come right back. Assuming you trust Hope to do that anyway.

Can't say I've ever trusted him to bring some of us back the way we ought to be. I don't doubt he'd try, but have you seen the inside of the scooters? Let's just say their idea of what makes a machine run leaves something to be desired.

[Which doesn't bode well for the gods trying to resurrect something like him. They've done it before with Oscar, but Nick doesn't put enough stock in Hope to get it right with something as complex as a machine with the mind of a long-dead man.]

Yeah I took one apart to try and salvage parts for my skeet shooter. It was full of plastic bendy straws.

I'm sure people come back with too many organs or missing some bits, they just haven't noticed yet.

[That actually gets a laugh out of Nick, one that is slightly distorted; he looks discomfited by the sound, but continues anyway.]

With all that goes on around here, I wouldn't be surprised if Fear managed to throw in a couple of extra livers into people, just to see if it'd scare them.

Most people would be thrilled. Hit the speakeasy hardcore and take their new livers for a test drive.

I'm not sure Rey could handle that many people.

[Not that she wouldn't try, but given how many people in town are prone to bad decisions, he can't help but imagine everyone flocking to the Speakeasy just to give those new livers a whirl.]

If there was any money here she'd be making a fortune.

You've been here a while right? Are the things they're doing lately getting.. worse?

[Because he feels like they are, but he doesn't really know.]

[That question gives Nick pause. His brow knits as his sets his eyes on the fire once more as he files through his own memories, remembering his earlier days in Hadriel.]

In some ways, they've always been this bad. This wasn't the first time we've been pitted against one another, and if this city lasts long enough, I doubt it'll be the last.

I liked the one where people we hated were nice to us. That was a good one. Let's do more of that instead.

[More free coffee and polite conversation.]

If only it were that easy. I think I'd take us back to that time the whole city turned into an island resort, right down to the shirts in the stores.

I think I'm still wearing the aftermath of that one. And I didn't even get to enjoy pink drinks with little umbrellas in them.

[Between that and the one where everything was candy he feels like he showed up far too late.]

Guess Tranquility doesn't need much power, seeing how we don't see as much of him as most of us would like. Some of what Delight brought to the table was good, but not good enough to justify what she did.

[And now she's dead.]

Though I guess that doesn't matter now.

Though some happiness would be appreciated right about now.

Yeah. Think we could all do with some levity. Heck, the gods themselves haven't thrown a party in ages.

[Which is one reason he thanked Pratt for the fire. If nothing else, it's giving folks a little relief in this messed up world.]
