So everything has sucked recently. Back home in Montana, when shit got rough we'd always get together and have a big bonfire. Get drunk, make s'mores, all that stuff. It didn't make things better but at least you forgot about it for a little while.

Worth a try right?

I've got some graham crackers, chocolate, and other things for roasting. No marshmallows though so if anyone wants to come through in the clutch it would be appreciated.

I'm lighting this up tonight at dusk, so if you want in, be there. I've only got so much to burn and it might not last more than an hour or two.

She enjoys it in the moment, and then forgets about it. At least that's what I assume if she's anything like the people I knew back home who were all about killing all the time. A brief moment of fun and then it's over.

Oh, I know. I would definitely love to try it, but he'd probably poof into a sparkly glowcloud the second I took a swing.

He should let us all get one punch in. It's not like he can feel it. Or even if he can it's not his real face anyway.

It'd be good for morale.

It would be! Just one punch from each of us and maybe a little trash-talking, too. With all that we've been made to put up with, he has it coming.

Yeah, and really, if he's a god and all, he should be able to take it. It's not like we're asking him to butt-chug a keg of beer.

And if he was actually a god he should be able to do that too. Turn it into water in his stomach or make it vanish or something.

[He's mildly amused that some things about people be dumb never change.]

I don't know, I have some teammates back home who could really be more in touch with their emotions. A month or six here ought to do the trick. For them, 8/10, would recommend to remove the stick from their asses.

We can use this like community service. Do three months of Hadriel to teach self sufficiency and how to not be a stuck up jackass.

I fully commend this plan. And then when they come back and you have seniority you can make them do your paperwork and go on all the mundane boring patrols that you don't want to do.

[she lets loose a peal of laughter] I like this plan! And to see the looks on Rokk's and Imra's faces when they get the news! That alone would be worth it.

Everyone's been trying to get out of here, I don't know that anyone has specifically asked for someone back home to be brought here. I wonder if the Door can do that.

I don't see why not, right?

Me, neither. Of course, if it was willing to do that, I can think of all sorts of people who'd be here already.

True. But maybe no one has thought to do that?

Who even controls the door? Who would we ask?

Maybe? It would kind of suck to find out that we could've had who we wanted here all along, but we were too dumb to ask.

I would guess it would be Sorrow? He seems to know the most about Door stuff.

Yeah. For what it's worth I've asked for a Starbucks, a candy shop, a movie theater and a mall. So I did my part in trying to get us stuff from the gods.

I would love any one of those things. Especially the mall. Some of the clothes here aren't awful, but finding them is a pain.

I'm being greedy, the town I live in is small enough it doesn't have any of those things. So I think I should get them here.

Alright, sell me on this. What are future malls like? Orange Julius and TCBY still a thing?

They're huge, the size of football stadiums with multiple levels. They've got any kind of food you want, any kind of clothes or shoes you want, some places even have bound books. But . . . I can't say that I've heard of Orange Julius or TCBY. What did they sell?

Orange Julius is a smoothie place that mostly sold orange and vanilla ice cream milkshake sort of things. And TCBY is frozen yogurt with a zillion types of toppings.

That sounds pretty good. Except I'm not going to have any money. I think I have $4 in one of my pockets.
