So, like... if I found a crossbow, can I get someone to enchant it to shoot fire bolts or something cool like that?

Well... yeah, sure. But not being prepared is more dangerous, and hell if I'm just gonna sit on my ass when the Null show up.

I've never picked up a weapon I couldn't figure out how to use.

How did you know you could figure it out if you never picked it up before?

I don't, but that's not the point. The weight's a bit weird on a crossbow, but I'll get used to it.

I may be able to help. I've never tried a bow before, but I know how to enchant arrows well enough.

[Julie can be patient, to a point, but she's glad that it gets sorted out fairly quickly...]

I mean, that could work? If you could do the bolts, I mean. It's gotta be easier than the whole weapon, right?

I'm not sure about easier, really. But I think enchanting the arrows would allow for more flexibility.

May I see the bolts in person? It might be easier to see what I can do that way.

Gunpowder. Fabric. Flammable liquids. ( The same way one might create a makeshift fire bomb, for example. ) That's how the humans on Tierra created such things.

[She rolls her eyes slightly. Just a little, but enough.]

Okay, yeah, I know how to make a fucking molotov. Humans don't really differ across different worlds, it sounds like. [Then, she shrugs.]

I'm looking for something I don't have to keep maintaining. A luxury I can actually find here. So, magic.

( Apparently not, but hey, he's giving you practical options and you want magic. )

It works, doesn't it? ( For being made of magic, Steak doesn't get to really use any of it, and he's not entirely sure why one needs to use it when there are workable mundane options there. This isn't like fighting Fallen Angels, where only Food Souls can defeat them. It's just setting fire to something. )

Why would I not use a fucking easy resource if I can? You tell me what sounds better - fucking around with chemicals and bits of cloth, then putting a match to it every time I shoot a new bolt... or just having the bolts be on fire. Just like that. You're not really being helpful here, you know.

Hah, yeah. Easier to find that kind of thing around here than guns or anything like that. I mean, I'd prefer a shotgun. Or like... grenades, or something.

Have you found something on which to test your abilities?

Nothing specific, but I'm pretty sure I can use it better than I could use a bow.

[Too much finesse in that. Julie isn't about finesse when it comes to weapons. She's about putting as much damage in one place as she can.]

What about you? What are you going to be using?

I won't be doing much fighting, if I can help it. [ Not without a dragon. ] I've studied some magic recently, but I'm far from proficient, and it'll likely be little use against the Null.

Huh. [Funny, she kind of didn't expect that answer.]

[ What is she going to be doing? It's a good question, and she isn't sure at the moment what the answer is. ]

...Fighting to the extent that I'm able. Facilitating communications. Seeing that as much is done ahead of time as possible to keep us all safe while the attack is carried out.

[ There will surely be more, but it's all so difficult to predict. Their enemy is a big unknown, especially to her. ]
