[ Dean's got his device set up so that this isn't all Blair Witch Project (thank god) but he's got a jar of his own, which he's... gently shaking around a couple of fireflies in. Not like Sid and his toys or anything here, considering they're still alive, but he's cheerfully giving them a rock and roll. ]

I don't get the bug thing, I really don't--

[ After which he sets the jar down with a slight clatter, where the fireflies can finally carry on flitting about. ]

I mean, this is like crack to kids, right? Catching these things, watching 'em fly around? Never understood the appeal. [ Says the man with fireflies in a jar but he's curious okay, don't judge. ]

And then with the warm and fuzzies... I mean- C'mon. Never known a God to offer that up without some kinda hand being played.

So when you suddenly have to kill a child whose done nothing wrong that's normally a bad thing. Or people in general.

(Newt doesn't know how Dean's world works but in his personal opinion there's no really justifying that. Because there are kids here. Granted, Arya doesn't really....you know....count as a normal child but the point stands. That and there were just innocent people here in general. Newt feels pretty strongly here. Judging you Dean, judging you.

Newt isn't so against murdering out of necessity. He's done it before and he'll do it again if he's gotta. So not the point though.)

No one said you said that. I'm just saying that that's sometimes the kind of stuff that happens around here and you were talking about just getting involved to understand things better. And I was saying how that's not always a great option. That's all.

(Why adults so dumb. Then again, Newt's still wary as fuck with adults. In all fairness, this kid has only had bad experiences with adults so okay maybe he was being a bit gun-jump happy here. He's still learning to realize that not every adult wants to fuck him over. That's all. At least Newt isn't speaking all that accusingly. Just in a matter of fact kind of way.

Well. If you're interested, I have some information that might be helpful. It's the most prominent thing anyone's discovered so far anyway.

[ God god munchkin, so much sass you have. But that's okay, he was a pesky kid too, he gets it about as much as he possibly can. Adults are assholes and he wanted nothing much to do with them either (not that he... even remotely understands your situation) but he wouldn't exactly be treating adults with respect were he a teenager here, either.

But at least you don't think he kills babies. That's a good thing. Not really an impression he wants to be letting on.

So far noone has said anything about anything and this is the first hint he's gotten of somebody having an idea as to the predicament they're all in.

(Yeah Newt's got pretty decent reasoning for hating adults and not being too trusting of them. But that's all for another time. He's glad the guy can at least understand why he might not. Points for Dean Winchester.

Yuuuuup. Newt was practically hand made for this situation, actually. It's a damn near replica of the world he came from and he's been trying to work it out ever since he's arrived. You're talking to maybe the one kid whose kind of a genius with this bullshit.

He can tell Dean is interested too so he takes a steady breath and sits up.)

(Newt knows how to explain slow and steady so he's not jamming as much information down someone's throat in one big ramble. He's got this.)

So the world I come from there was a place I lived for about three years that was practically identical to this place. Some differences, obviously, but structurally many similarities. Fake sky, and in my case we were surrounded by a massive Maze. Here, we've got tunnels. Back home, the Maze would change every night and we'd run it to try and solve it. Here, I kept going through the tunnels to see if maybe they changed too. I thought maybe they would because if you go to the tunnels, the stone inside is actually different than the stone on the outside where we all live.

(A BREATH.)

Now I have extremely good memory. I drew out the tunnels whenever I went through them and that's what we did back in the maze. Map it out. So I kept drawing them and they never changed. So I got to know the turns and all. But then one day we went through them and suddenly they were different.

(He shrugs, shaking his head mostly at the idea of it all.)

It's been the biggest thing that's happened here since. I know it doesn't sound like much but back home, when the Maze changed, it actually started to form letters that gave us words we would need to leave. It was a giant puzzle. So it's been worth going back. Also, one time, when we were deep inside the tunnels we found a burnt computer chip. Lots of people passed it off as just being something that maybe someone dropped once but I think that's being a little naive.

[ Woahoh that sure is a lot to take in. At least Dean is good with information vomiting from Sam and years of being given far too much at once, so he sort of sits back and listens, arms folded over his chest and gaze narrowing. He doesn't look like he's being thrown too much of a loop by any of this because weird worlds are weird and his own is psychotic enough that judging anyone for the shit they've been through? Not gonna happen.

Granted, he'll probably get to it eventually but now's certainly not the time for it. Now's the time for listening and dissecting the information he's been given so he doesn't come out looking like a complete idiot. ]

Yeah, nothing like that's ever a coincidence. Shit always means something.

[ A pause, some glancing off at nothing in particular and then Dean's back with another question- ] When'd the tunnels change? Anything in particular happen, God's do anything specific? Or was it just any ol' day.

(You bet it is, buddy. Newt's a god damn wealth of knowledge over here. This kid's trying to make due with everything and the moment anyone shows interest, he's spewing everything he's got onto them. It's their best option at this point. And you know what? He won't assume anyone's intelligence ever. Doesn't really matter how old they are or what they act like. Newt isn't so judgemental as to assume intelligence. For all he knows, Dean could be an utter genius and figure out something about the tunnels that Newt can't. It isn't worth keeping information to himself. Not at all.

Newt is grateful though that Dean doesn't interrupt to ask stupid questions. It got pretty tiring having to explain things again and again and again.

No, Dean, you already don't look like a complete idiot. Newt's dealt with enough of those in his life to recognize one and you, sir, are not one.)

(And Newt smiles, an honest-to-god sort of smile that's completely authentic because he really does appreciate someone with common sense. It had been grating hearing so many people dismissing that chip.

At the question, Newt's face grows serious.)

A new god had come into play. Delight. She came along and got everyone drunk for a week or so- which yeah, was fun, but then the tunnels changed after that.

[ At this point, let it be known that Dean will take whatever information he can get. Because while it doesn't suck monstrous ass here, they've still been kidnapped, they're still not supposed to be here, they're still- well, all kinds of damned things. Not to mention, Dean really doesn't appreciate being kept under the thumb of multiple gods. It's a shitfest truth be told, and so far, Newt's the only person who seems to know DIDDLY. Which unto itself is a concerning thing, but at least someone's got something.

That's the important part. Doesn't matter who, doesn't matter if they're a kid. Just matters that there's information being gathered on someone's part, and that people are willing to look. Some of them.

One of them. Apparently.

But hey, look- he can smile. At least Dean didn't fuck up completely, so there's that. But they're back to business after a second and Dean breathes a quiet 'huh' under his breath, scrambling through the Pantheon that is his brain to try and uncover dirt on the God's that he's dealt with before. ]

And she's the only one that's appeared since you've been here?

(Newt actually wasn't all that hyped up to leave. This place was much better than his own world but despite that, he hated being under someone else's control again. He hated being thrown somewhere against his will. Who did like that? So if escape was an option then maybe they could go elsewhere. He didn't want to go home but he didn't want to stay here.

In all fairness, Newt was kind of a genius kid. Not that that's something he brags about often since it's part of the reason for why he was fucked over in the first place because fuck nerds but hey. This was completely up his ally of Things He Can Do Well so really, you're talking to the right person. He's been trying to work out details with a few other individuals who care but there definitely aren't many.

Thankfully for Dean Newt is actually pretty gentle and nice. It takes a lot to fuck up in his books.

Newt doesn't really even believe in gods. He's used to technology being the enemy here and he still hasn't discredited that completely. To him, there's been no proof of gods but he's also from a world where science is advanced enough to give someone partial telepathy. He has reasons for his skepticism.)

Yup. Well, I'm kind of new. Others have been here for a little longer. I think - don't quote me on this - Hope and Fear were the original gods. But then Rage came along at some point and then now Delight.

[ Admittedly, there's just too much shit going on back home to feel as if being here is a positive use of his time. Not to mention, the Mark complicates it all: the everlasting feeling that if he doesn't take out his need for violence on the next person that walks through his path, that he might die on the spot. It's a problem, a constant shrieking in his skull, and he can't help but think no one anywhere truly deserves the outcome of the way his insides are twisting.

But what can ya do.

Not to mention, being dragged to other universes is never his idea of a good time. While this isn't Hell nor Purgatory, it's still not where he's meant to be and the ever present drive to get back is one he's familiar with.

And yet none of that is something he plans on expressing, his own burden to bear. While he doesn't know what everyone else has been through, he still has to believe that most people here have no reason to enjoy being put under the thumb of Gods who want nothing more than to see them suffer in their own, joyful ways. It's a cruel fate that no one needs, and it's pertinent that they find their way back out. ]

Because it's not a party unless some pissed off asshole with a God complex is there to ruin it. [ Insert eye roll here. ] Gotta admit though, this'd be the first time i've ever dealt with Gods that go by any of those names. Doesn't mean we can't figure this out, but i'm thinking that any amount of research in a library isn't gonna come up with what we're looking for.

Means going with your plans so far? About the best thing we got. Figure this place out and we've got a better idea of what's going on in their brain pan. 'Specially since i'm guessing they've put together this special Hell for us all to enjoy. And you've already seen they can change it on a whim. Make us see whatever they want us to see. Key is finding them and whatever cracks they've forgotten to seal.

(That makes sense. Newt would feel similarly but you know, he was killed so. He's pretty sure it's for all of his friends' best interest if he just stays here. It was only a matter of time before he got sick again and who wanted to deal with that? Not that he really wanted anyone here dealing with it either but aye.

That's a pretty good assumption to make. Dean, you're far smarter than you were acting with the whole firefly thing. It's a good thing. A very good thing that one day Newt would probably acknowledge cause the kid's a nerd like that. Already he's thinking about it though because Dean's one of the very few people who has been so sincerely receptive to Newt's information. It brings about a new respect in Newt entirely for the other man.)

I don't know gods. Where I come from, the technology was capable of making anything seem possible. It actually was a real similar situation back home as it is here. That's why I'm not just going to stop and believe that these people are just "gods". Everyone discredits that they might just be people with some really fancy toys. Who knows really what they are, right?

(Where was the proof? Peter had tried to point out different things but honestly, it was all discredited. Newt had seen too many things performed by technology in his own world that it didn't matter. He found comfort in the idea that these gods were people. That a bullet in the head would be as effective to them as it was to him if worse came to worse.

And if they are gods? Newt's ready to accept that too. He's an equal opportunist here.)

It's all we've really got right now. The library doesn't have books with any words any one knows. We're trying to see if there's any way to translate them but so far, no luck.

Well, how things seem to go is that each god tries to invoke their represented "emotion" in all of us by these things- (He waves at the screen, at the fireflies.) The last time was Rage making us kill each other. A few months back it was Fear burying us alive and Hope giving us shovels to dig our friends out. Stuff like that. Our emotions strengthen them- apparently. But they seem pretty...all over the place. I think they'll have more than a few cracks.

[ Dean is well aware that he is an idiot a good portion of the time, it true. But he also thinks he knows his shit when he really needs to actually know it, and maybe this is one of those times. One of those moments that he gets to be useful, and honestly those come a lot more often than one might think in his line of work. It's why he does what he does - because he's good at it and because he's done it long enough that he's gotten incredibly good at.

There's a reason he ain't in college, and another that he ain't a plumber. He's a Hunter because he can do it, and he can do it without question. It just means that the crap he knows? Is only devoted to a small sect of the universe.

So really, it's not hard for him to be immediately invested in this conversation. Because getting out of here is a hot topic that everyone should be big on - why is no one else shouting about this? Why is this not being told throughout the land? Dean would like answers to those questions, but for now he'll just take this and run with it. ]

No, I get it- humans can do some pretty freaky shit too. I just get Gods better than I do people. Comes with the territory. [ He shrugs; it's almost apologetic, but there's nothing he can do about it. ]

They help each other out at all? Because most of the Gods i've seen- they're all in this game for themselves. Not exactly interested in working together for a common goal unless that one goal's gonna blow the world wide open. You gotta really put 'em under the cooker to get 'em to cooperate, otherwise we're gonna be stuck here with a few too many Gods and each one pulling in different directions.

Which, yeah- is gonna make everything seem all over the place. But like you said, that's if they're Gods to begin with.
